Gems and Jewels in Diablo Immortal
Diablo Immortal offers a way to improve your character by socketing glittering gems with amazing powers. Gems can be bought, sold, moved between equipment pieces, upgraded, and saved for later use in your stash. They offer important improvements on both your secondary statistics like damage and life, and traits that enhance and empower your legendary equipment.
First we'll take a look at the jeweler, who will be your primary interface to gems, and then we'll take a closer look at both normal and legendary gems, and then finally some of the best gems by class. Here are a few examples just to get you in the mood for bling. We have all of these in our database for your inspection if you want to browse the shiny under

The Jeweler
The Apprentice Jeweler is an important NPC in Diablo Immortal, as this is where you go to create, upgrade, and remove Normal Gems and Legendary Gems. Both Normal Gems and Legendary Gems are crucial to helping you build more powerful gear, as you will learn in separate guides that go in-depth into both subjects.
Despite the name, the Apprentice Jeweler is actually the most important Jeweler in the game. There are other Jewelers that serve as vendors, but the Apprentice Jeweler is the one who will contribute most directly to player power. You will find Apprentice Jewelers both in Rakkis Plaza in Westmarch and in most other zone camps as well. We have a complete guide to the Jeweler at the link below.
Jeweler Overview Guide
Normal Gems
Normal Gems fit into Sockets in Secondary Slot gear and provide Attribute bonuses depending on the type of Gem used. Normal gems come in three different colors that go into specific slots in your gear.
Where to Get Normal Gems in Diablo Immortal
Normal gems come from these sources:
Hidden Lairs - hidden mini-dungeons that typically spawn near shrines or treasure chests
Purchased from the Hilts trader (weekly purchase limit)
Purchased from other players in the Market for Platinum
We have a complete guide to Normal Gems at the link below.

Legendary Gems
Legendary Gems in Diablo Immortal are gems that can only be fitted into Primary Slot items with 1 socket available. You can only equip one at a time of any particular Legendary Gem. New players often underestimate the value of Legendary Gems, since the lower-level ones in particular don't seem to offer much of value. However, they are an important a part of your gearing strategy, and you're leaving power on the table by ignoring them. Understanding how to acquire Legendary Gems and upgrade their power will be a key strategy to overall success in Sanctuary.
Obtaining Legendary Gems In Diablo Immortal
You can obtain Legendary Gems directly one of several different ways:
Running Elder Rifts empowered with 1-3 Legendary Crest (guaranteed 1 Legendary Gem drop per Legendary Crest invested)
Crafting by trading in Runes and Platinum to the Apprentice Jeweler*
Purchased from other players through the Market for Platinum
Purchased from the Fading Embers trader (1-star and 2-star only; stock rotates weekly)
Acquired through the paid Battle Pass
*Only 1-Star and most 2-Star gems can be crafted, except through the Random Legendary Gem recipe.
And, of course we have a complete guide to Legendary Gems should you wish to learn more.
Legendary Gems Guide
Best Legendary Gems
At first you are likely to be using whatever legendary gems you can find or make, but later in the game, optimizing your gems for your class and build becomes quite important. Gems can vary in power from One Star to Five Stars based on the effects they grant, but don't be fooled: there are One Star gems that you can get early that are incredibly powerful. For example, for classes that specialize in AoE,
Chained Death
is a gem worth hanging onto and using well into your Paragon Levels.
For example, here are some thoughts from our Best Wizard Legendary Gems Guide about Two Star gems for the Wizard.
Best 2-Star Legendary Gems for Wizards
All 2-Star Legendary Gems you can craft at the Apprentice Jeweler. These can also be drops.
Bloody Reach
- Unless you are planning to be a Battlemage.
Lightning Core
- Additional AoE damage.
Power & Command
- Quite good DPS gem.
The Hunger
- Useful for keeping your health topped off.
There is a 2-Star Legendary Gem that cannot be crafted at the Apprentice Jeweler. It can be earned in the Battle Pass, or looted in a Crested Elder Rift; or crafted randomly via Mystery Legendary Gem Recipe:
Fervent Fang
- Always useful against boss encounters.
These recommendations are somewhat the same for everyone, but also specific to class and build for others. For this reason, we have a complete selection of guides for Best Legendary Gems by class that you can get to via the links below.

Wanna talk instead about the cost of maxing ONE character fully is gonna cost between roughly 500,000$ to 1 mil in actual dollars do to their extremely awful predatory pay2win system and that it is not possible to get there ever as f2p?
Define "maxing". This game is an mmorpg and they will release new content in the future just like WoW. Tell me about "maxing" in WoW. Yes it will be never max.
Maxing is having bis items and upgrades.
When new content comes out, maxing is still having bis items and upgrades, for both WoW and Diablo.
If you're going to defend predatory monetisation, make it coherent please.
Alcohol distributors should stop selling alcohol because I keep buying more to drink...
I think the gist of what he's saying and what I know is for sure, is people need to give up the concept of min/maxing and BIS. Enjoy the leaderboards for what you do get from natural play. Don't make fun of someone who has an extra $5 and wants to throw it at the game.
The people who spend the money, have the right to spend it and it's your problem you can control your impulse or urges.
Furthermore, while you might not be able to do content other people can, there will always be plenty of people to play on your level.
We all dont need be the mathmatically perfect player. It's damn near insane to believe that to ever be possible, money or not.
