The
Eastern Kingdoms Cup
is live with another round of time-limited dragonriding races, so we're breaking down some tips, tricks, and community content creator video highlights to help bring home the gold!
Eastern Kingdoms Cup Guide and Rewards
Review your Runs
Just like timing Mythic+ dungeons or defeating difficult raid bosses, one of the most important tips for getting better at anything is practice - simply repeating the activity over and over again until it has become ingrained to the point of not even having to think about it first. Alongside that is reviewing your own runs, to see what you can improve and where you tend to run into trouble.
Though Dragonriding races aren't recorded in WarcraftLogs (yet!?), you can easily record and review yourself with Nvidia Shadowplay, OBS, Windows Xbox Game Bar, or other similar software. Pre-record or grab a clip after your race to see which part gave you trouble, where you ran out of vigor, or which obstacle snuck up on you, in order to better prepare for next time!
Buff the Dragonriding UI
Successfully timing advanced races is all about speed and vigor management, and while the default Dragonriding UI may look nice, it doesn't provide a whole lot of detailed information. Darianopolis's
Dragonriding UI weakaura
fixes that by adding various gauges to properly track speed, acceleration, and vigor, alongside buff breakpoints and ability timers to maximize the use of all your tools and abilities! Although certainly not required to successfully complete races, that little bit of extra information may help give you an edge in securing victory.
It may not be as pretty as the default UI, but Darian's WA shows far more information to help maintain positive acceleration, Thrill of the Skies, and manage vigor!
If you prefer something a little more aesthetic, the
Dragon Rider addon
includes many of the same features, and can be seen in some of our highlight videos below. Don't worry too much though, you don't
need
addons or advanced WeakAuras to beat gold timers, they just might help overcome a particularly challenging part, especially if you find yourself struggling to maintain speed or vigor.
The Dragon Rider addon includes a speedometer, color coded status bar, and animated vigor orbs, with more features in the works!
Off to the Races
Practice, practice, practice! The new races may be challenging, but it's nothing that can't be overcome without a little bit of time and dedication on your side. To help facilitate this, we're highlighting a handful of helpful community creators showcasing their runs, while providing helpful tips and tricks to help you bring home the gold!
Elwynn Forest Flash
We previously showcased
Ice_Lightning
during the
Kalimdor Cup
, and she has returned to offer more detailed walkthroughs for normal, advanced, and reverse Dragonriding races! These longer videos are much more in-depth than most showcases, but if you're a fan of Ice's explanatory ride-along videos, there are many more walkthroughs available on Youtube, as well as other tips & tricks, like using the
Pozione Nera Come l'Inchiostro
potion to help make
race rings a little clearer
!
Ironforge Interceptor
The advanced course through through the hills of Dun Morogh features quite a few fire hazards and several blind turns, which can disorient a less practiced rider, but
Mr. Eggplant
showcases the Dragon Riding addon in a smooth run and easy victory over the deceptively challenging course.
Gilneas Gambit - Reverse
The Gilneas Gambit timer is tight, and the reverse course can be particularly challenging, featuring long straightways that demand maximum speed, to low altitude dives between buildings and trees. There are a lot of things to get stuck on in this race, but
Ralleigh
shows us how good use of
Salita in Alto
can make all the difference.
Booty Bay Blast
Booty Bay Blast is aptly named, racing through the Stranglethorn jungle in under a minute and with very little room for error. More than any other, this race demands precision to avoid losing precious momentum, so join
DibuckTV
in paying particular attention to the narrow rings amid the oil rigs and trees.
Twilight Terror
While many of the Eastern Kingdoms Cup races focus on low altitude obstacles, Twilight Terror is an interesting race that makes use of more verticality than most, particularly the long climb to the top of Bastion of Twilight at the end.
Cymre Jones
takes us through the Twilight Terror advanced course using a stock UI.
While some of the timers seem tight and the challenges may at first feel insurmountable, there are several ways to approach these races, and we hope these highlights help racers enjoy the Eastern Kingdoms Cup. Which courses have you found the most challenging so far?
