With the Diablo IV Open Beta and Early Access Weekends fast approaching, players will be able to experience the world of Sanctuary like never before with new gameplay systems and old favorites alike.
From classic systems like item gambling and gameplay difficulty to new features such as Altars of Lilith, we're highlighting some of the most exciting aspects of Diablo IV with our in-depth guides!
An Altar of Lilith, a new account-based progression system in Diablo IV
New to Diablo IV, Altars of Lilith are hidden around the world of Sanctuary, ready for players to discover their secrets. Acting as an account-wide progression system, each altar found will
permanently
increase a specific stat for all characters. These gains aren't insignificant - a level one Sorceress can nearly double their starting Intelligence after finding only half of the Altars of Lilith in a region.

A staple for Diablo veterans, Shrines still lie scattered around Sanctuary, providing temporary bonuses to players. However, a new twist on these classic structures allows Shrines to appear as Cursed Shrines - instead of immediately granting their buff on activation, players must fight through wave after wave of demons and monsters to gain their prize!

Gambling has a long, storied tradition in Sanctuary, and Diablo IV is no exception. The Purveyor of Curiosities is taking up the mantle of gambler extraordinaire. Still, they won't be taking your gold - instead, players will gamble with Obols, a new currency that can be earned through events worldwide. Players will interact extensively with this gambling system, not only for gear but also for Whispering Keys - a new item used to open the Silent Chests scattered throughout the open world.

Last but certainly not least, players looking to experience the most dangerous content Diablo IV has to offer are met with the return of the World Tier Difficulty System. From a setting for those new to the Diablo universe to the Torment difficulty meant for characters at level 100, there's a level of challenge for every player and playstyle. Rewards ramp with the difficulties, so those looking to become loot goblins themselves should set their sights on completing the dungeons that unlock higher levels of challenge!
