The statistics for the COVID-19 pandemic are startling. In the US alone, more than 100,000 people are currently hospitalized due to the virus. This is almost twice as many as during the worst days in April and July. Hospitals around the country are running out of staff. In "normal" times, an ICU nurse would be assigned two critically ill patients at most but currently some are caring for as many at eight at a time. One can only imagine the stress that these carers are dealing with. Jwolford90, an ICU nurse at a level 1 trauma center and Resto Druid main, took to Reddit to express their gratitude to Blizzard for Shadowlands, where they can take a break from the real world and, as they put it, "be able to play a game that I can get lost in and feel some type of joy." They went on to thank the community for all of the advice, memes, and humor.
World of Warcraft plays a role in all of our lives and it is humbling to know that some of our in-game healers (and not healers) are also out-of-game healers on the front lines of this pandemic. I for one am so very glad that these amazing people are able to join in on our little world away from the world and that all of us can, in some way, contribute to keeping the sanity of those who keep us safe intact. Apparently Reddit agrees. Jwolford90 has received awards, comments, and up-votes from Redditors who were touched by their post. We are truly lucky to have such a great community. And remember, be kind, always be kind; you never know who that random other player may be and what they may be doing for us.
Thank you
, Jwolford90, you are an inspiration.
