Lucky Hit gives you a chance to trigger an additional effect provided by a skill, gear item, or Paragon node. This guide helps you understand how Lucky Hit works, how to take best advantage of it, and how to make sure you're not leaving "power on the table".

What is Lucky Hit in Diablo 4?
What it isn't: Lucky Hit is NOT a crit strike.
Put simply, Lucky Hit is each offensive skill's base chance to cause an additional effect. In other games, it's often referred to as a proc coefficient. It's a chance that something will happen if you have an ability that will trigger when those conditions are met.
Lucky Hit has three components:
First, you must trigger a Lucky Hit by using an offensive ability with a Lucky Hit chance.
Second, you must have a skill or ability that defines what happens when get a Lucky Hit. If there's no definition, it will do nothing.
Third, when you do get a Lucky Hit and you have a defined Lucky Hit ability, you have a chance to proc an additional effect. This is not usually 100%.
Many skills have an inherent Lucky Hit chance, and you will see it on the skill's tooltip:
As you can see, has a native 35% chance to trigger a Lucky Hit. Not all abilities have a chance to trigger a Lucky Hit.
However, if you have no skill or ability that actually procs something when you get a Lucky Hit,
this does absolutely nothing.
This is where you leave power on the table. Lucky Hit isn't a Critical Strike; it does nothing without a defined use for that Lucky Hit.
Here is an example of a skill that can proc something when you get a Lucky Hit:
Under the Modifiers, you will see a definition of what this ability can do when you get a Lucky Hit. Without this or any other Lucky Hit definition, your Lucky Hits will get wasted and do nothing at all.
Some players say they don't like investing in Lucky Hit because they want things that work all the time, not just some of the time. After all, even if you do get a Lucky Hit, you've only got a
chance
to proc the effect, not a guarantee. However, since you will get Lucky Hits regardless, why not have at least one ability that give that Lucky Hit something to do?
You can also have multiple abilities with Lucky Hit definitions.
Each time you get a Lucky Hit, the system will check against all your Lucky Hit possibilities. You can get anywhere from none of them to ALL of them proccing at once!
Since you're going to get Lucky Hits anyway, at least give them something to do! You need to tell it what to do or nothing will happen. Make sure you have at least one ability with a Lucky Hit definition.
Once again for the people in the back: it's not a crit. It's useless without a definition. Define it or leave power behind.
Why does Diablo 4 have Lucky Hit?
Lucky Hit is a mechanic that's used to balance abilities within the game. A chance to proc something interesting on a Lucky Hit can compensate for other shortcomings in an ability. However, it also means that if you improve your Lucky Hit chance, you may actually make a "weaker" skill with a possible Lucky Hit proc better than a "stronger" skill that procs nothing on Lucky Hit. If you work on improving Lucky Hit, that "weaker" ability can improve and even surpass the "stronger" skill. This will require some planning on your part.

All classes have mechanics that increase Lucky Hit Chance or use Lucky Hit Chance to proc effects.

So just to recap ...
If I was using Wolves
Wolves
Companion
Cooldown: 14 seconds
Lucky Hit Chance: 50%
Passive: Summon 2 wolf companions that bite enemies for 7% damage.
Active: Direct your wolves to focus an enemy, leaping to them and striking for 110% damage.
and i used the Ferocious Wolf Pack modifier

Lucky Hit: Your Wolves' attacks have up to a 10% chance to Fortify you for 5% Base Life (82).
Would the math work out as a 50% chance for the wolves to get a lucky proc and then a 10% chance of that lucky proc actually proccing fortify, 0.5*0.1= a 5% chance?

I understand it like this:
You have a
global
lucky hit chance (stated by the flat
+XX% lucky hit chance
in gear)
An ability can have its own % lucky hit chance
The first event that has to proc is the
global
lucky hit chance. When it procs, it opens the gate for the lucky hit chance of each ability. If any of the abilities proc, it does the effect it says it does. This also includes the lucky hit
effects
of some gear.
Some or all of them can proc at once. Or none at all.
The higher your
global
lucky hit chance, the higher the
frequency
all abilities effects and effects in gear can proc.
