This Wowhead endgame build guide covers the best Skills, rotation, gear, Paragon boards, Glyphs, nodes, and consumables for the Twisting Blades Rogue in Diablo 4.
With the new uniques added in Season 5, Twisting Blades has become a resource-dumping powerhouse that rapidly ramps up damage for powerful burst windows. This variant of the build focuses heavily on the Resource aspect of , sticking with a Physical build rather than running alternative variants that use Imbued attacks, and while it has a higher gear requirement than normal, it does very well once geared.
Twisting Blades Rogue in Season 5
Between , , and , Energy-dumping cycles are going to be the core playstyle of this build. With repeatedly pulling enemies into your whirl of Twisting Blades, you will be stacking large groups of enemies before setting up your burst window with and , after which you will simply be spamming until everything around you is dead.
Twisting Blades Rogue Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Weaknesses
benefits hugely from having a full best-in-slot build, as each "hard-to-obtain" piece will make a large difference in your gameplay, due to them normally affecting how Energy is managed in the build. With that in mind, it's important to understand that you will need to pay more attention to when you enter the "Energy-dumping" phase while still gearing up.
Twisting Blades Rogue is fairly strong on both single-target and AoE, but with , it definitely shines more on AoE packs. The Imbued variants of Twisting Blades will generally do better on single-target boss fights, but this Physical variant will still be able to clear bosses well.
Best Twisting Blades Rogue Skills and Rotation
Twisting Blades Rogue Primary Skills and Rotation
The highest priority of this build is maintaining at all times. Beyond that, your normal setup and dump will look like this:
Depending on your cooldowns, set up your and .
Use to re-engage following the leap back from Caltrops.
Dump your Energy into as many as you can, either until you run out, or you need to reposition to safety with .
If your Inner Sight procs, make sure to make the most of it, as it maximizes the bonuses you receive from . Only reposition with it active if you are certain to die otherwise.
(5/5)
Twisting Blades is our main damage dealer in this build and, via the Improved modifier, a constant source of crowd control for our Aspect damage procs.
(1/5)
Caltrops is an excellent damage-increasing skill when used with Enhanced and Disciplined modifiers, especially as we will often be grouping up enemies for our Twisting Blades damage phases, where they will all be standing in the Caltrops area.
(1/5)
Smoke Grenade, when used with the Enhanced modifier, acts as a damage-increasing skill itself, while also proccing the . Take the Countering modifier to ensure it is always available for a constant damage increase.
(1/5)
Concealment is only taken as a tool to reposition or move through maps faster and the modifiers aren't needed in this build.
(5/5)
Dark Shroud is extremely important to not only this build, but Rogues in general, as it is an extremely powerful defensive tool, while also now having offensive impacts as well. With the Countering modifier, we receive continuous Critical Strike Chance since it's nearly always active.
(1/5)
Shadow Step is an excellent tool for engaging packs after using Caltrops, while also giving us a guaranteed Vulnerable application on the main target via the Enhanced modifier. The Disciplined modifier keeps its cooldown low, as well as allowing us to Stun priority targets.
Momentum plays perfectly into the Twisting Blades playstyle, as we chain-cast back-to-back Cutthroat skills via Twisting Blades itself, while our non-Cutthroat skills won't be cast enough to lose stacks often.
Twisting Blades Rogue Passive Skills
These are the best Passive Skills for the Twisting Blades Rogue. Passive Skills can provide some of the more powerful interactions that bring a build together.
(2/3)
- This is a damage reduction that will be active when we need it most, as we will spend most of our time in the middle of large packs.
(3/3)
- With high Critical Strike Chance, along with all of our combat being "Close" combat, this is a great addition for staying healthy.
(3/3)
- This is one of the best damage-increasing Passives that Rogues have.
(1/3)
- This node is only taken to reach Trick Attacks.
(3/3)
- This passive is extremely strong with the Twisting Blades build and, with additional points from your gear, will be the strongest passive node for this build.
(3/3)
- This helps to keep our Dodge chance high enough that we can often just ignore incoming damage and, with multiple cooldowns available with low-cooldown times, we will have this active almost permanently.
(3/3)
- This is one of the best damage-increasing Passives that Rogues have.
(3/3)
- We have multiple Vulnerable application methods in this build and the passive will be active almost permanently.
(3/3)
- This passive ensures that we are maintaining the ability to spam Twisting Blades for as long as possible.
(3/3)
- Second Wind is essentially just a passive defensive boost, as we are going to be spending massive amounts of Energy.
(1/3)
- The Energy gained from this is fairly minor, but it is necessary to unlock the next node.
(3/3)
- Depending on your gear, the value of this passive varies, but it's still useful, and is at its strongest when you are entering the below-50%-Energy range during your burst windows.
Best Twisting Blades Rogue Specialization
While Twisting Blades is normally played with Combo Points in Imbued variants, this Physical variant is all about Energy, and that's why we want to use Inner Sight. If its procs are managed well, it can lead to massive increases to your burst windows when aligned with max gear procs.
Rogue Specialization Guide
Best Twisting Blades Rogue Gear
This setup represents the best gear for the Twisting Blades Rogue. Since many of these items and Aspects are based on drops, this may take time to achieve. Alternatives are provided when applicable, but making substitutions to BiS gear can have negative consequences on performance. You will want to Imprint Legendary Aspects onto other Legendary items, since Legendaries will have 3 Affixes and Rare items only have 2.
Best Twisting Blades Rogue Aspects and Uniques
Helm
Source
: Infernal Hordes
Masterworking Priority
: Lucky Hit
This helm is new in Season 5 and is still solid for Twisting Blades post-nerf. With further testing, this recommendation may change, and we will update this section with the new choice or a confirmation.
Chest Armor
Masterworking Priority
: +x to Dark Shroud
While other similar builds like Flurry Rogue use , Twisting Blades benefits massively from Windbolt's pull, as well as the damage increase it gives. If you are struggling with survivability, you should use Crowded Sage instead.
Gloves
Masterworking Priority
: Damage per Dark Shroud Shadow
The Concussive Strikes aspect gives a nice bonus in its Lucky Hit Chance effect, but the main power is in the damage increase to Dazed enemies, which we can nearly always proc via and .
Pants
Masterworking Priority
: Damage per Dark Shroud Shadow
This is going to be what maintains our Dark Shroud by continually refreshing them on Lucky/Critical Hits, and is required for this build to function properly.
Boots
Source
: Infernal Hordes
Masterworking Priority
: Resistance to All Elements
The main use of these boots is essentially ensuring that you don't have to worry about any Elemental Resistance rolls elsewhere on your gear, especially when Masterworked, while still bringing a damage bonus in its passive effect.
Amulet
Source
: Infernal Hordes
Masterworking Priority
: Attack Speed or Critical Strike Damage
This Amulet adds massive damage to the Twisting Blades Rogue build and, with enough gear, you will be constantly proccing the maximum bonus.
Ring
Masterworking Priority
: Damage per Dark Shroud Shadow
The Attack Speed bonus from this aspect will be active almost permanently. It gives a solid boost to the number of Twisting Blade casts you can perform per second.
Ring
Source
: Mythic Unique
Masterworking Priority
: N/A
This ring is extremely powerful for Twisting Blade Rogue and ties in perfectly with
our Resource-heavy setup. If you do not have it, you should use , which works as a decent substitute for the lost resource cost reduction, but does little to match the damage increase from Starless Skies.
Main Hand
Source
: Infernal Hordes
Masterworking Priority
: + to Innervation
During testing, this item was bugged to allow for far higher damage output than intended, but even if it is fixed, it will still be extremely strong, and should definitely be used for this build, as it plays perfectly into our playstyle of grouping enemies and dumping Energy into them.
Off-Hand
Masterworking Priority
: Damage per Dark Shroud
With Inner Sight especially, this will be a constant damage increase to Twisting Blade Rogue's output and works perfectly with the build-up and dumping of Energy.
Ranged
Masterworking Priority
: Damage per Dark Shroud
This Aspect is vital to Twisting Blades builds, as it makes the skill have constant AoE and is a major damage increase on both grouped packs and single-target.
Rogue Legendary Aspects Rogue Uniques
Best Twisting Blades Rogue Affixes and Tempers
In many cases, you will want to reroll at least one undesirable Item Affix from a piece of gear. This is not possible with Unique items; all Affixes are preset, and you can't even drag it into the Occultist's Enchant window.
Replacing any Affix at the Occultist will replace it with a normal Affix, not a Greater Affix.
These are among the best Item Affixes and Tempering Affixes for Twisting Blades Rogue in endgame, organized by type (not all Affixes can appear on every type of gear). Remember that you can only reroll one normal Affix per item, so if you get an item with more than one undesirable or unusable Affix, you may want to reconsider using it.
This build is extremely dependent on Energy generation and, without it, it will suffer massively, especially if you manage to pick up a unique like early on without the gear to support it. Early on, when you are far off of your BiS, you'll want to potentially look for Resource-generating or cost reduction rolls to help manage this issue until you find better gear. Once you are better geared and have more of the recommended Uniques, you'll want to focus on getting the +x rank stats on your gear, especially for Dark Shroud and Twisting Blades.

Best Twisting Blades Rogue Paragon Boards
With 225 possible points (1 at 50, 200 from leveling, 20 from Renown, and 4 from Altars of Lilith), it is possible to open all 8 class boards, but most builds use 4-5. All classes begin with their Start board, and can then choose to attach one of 8 class-specific boards. The Start board is the same for all class members and cannot be changed.
The Twisting Blades Rogue Paragon setup uses the following Paragon boards, Glyphs, Legendary nodes, and Rare nodes:
Start Board
Closer is an excellent glyph choice here, as there are many Dexterity nodes to grab, giving us a massive boost to our Cutthroat damage, along with a minor damage reduction boost.
All 4 of the rare nodes on this board are solid, both defensively and offensively, with Skillful and Lawless adding further to Closer's value as they both have Dexterity on them and are within glyph range.
Exploit Weakness
We will have near-permanent Vulnerable uptime and, due to that, Exploit is an excellent choice for its increased damage to Vulnerable enemies. With that being said, its secondary effect, which we enable with Strength nodes, is there as a fail-safe to ensure Vulnerable is active.
We will be cycling through Exploit Weakness' stacks with Lucky Hits, given that almost all enemies we face will be Vulnerable, and the execute mechanic from the node is extremely strong in large AoE packs.
The Vulnerable damage bonus from Artifice and Exploit are excellent for the build's output, while Unassailable is a solid defensive choice. Cold Resilience is only taken as an "extra point", as there aren't many better options for that last point, and it's still equivalent to 2 Max Life Magic nodes.
Cunning Stratagem
The Energy return from the Combat glyph is yet another way to ensure we can keep spamming Twisting Blades casts, while also giving a solid boost to our Critical Strike Damage.
We do not take the Legendary node on this Paragon board.
The Core damage boost from these 2 nodes makes them definitely worth taking, despite us ignoring most of the board.
Cheap Shot
With the constant crowd-control being applied by Twisting Blades, the Devious glyph works perfectly to boost our damage against CCed enemies with the Magic nodes in range.
Cheap Shot is essentially just a flat damage increase, as we will be capping the buff with our Twisting Blades spam and its chance to CC.
Devious is a sizeable damage increase to our output due to our constant crowd control, while Wiles and Safeguard are taken for their defensive bonuses.
No Witnesses
Pride is used to increase the Rare nodes around it, giving us additional damage and defensive bonuses, along with a boost to our Physical damage from Twisting Blades.
We do not take the Legendary node on this Paragon board.
This node is taken for a balanced split between offensive and defensive bonuses from the Pride glyph.
Deadly Ambush
No glyph is taken on this board.
Deadly Ambush is powerful enough (in giving such a large Critical Strike Damage buff) that it's worth starting this board to grab it, even if we ignore the Glyph slot on it.
No rare nodes are taken on this board.
Leyrana's Instinct
No glyph is taken on this board.
Leyrana's Instinct is massively powerful when you are using Inner Sight, both for offense and defense, and is an absolute staple of the build.
No rare nodes are taken on this board.

Best Twisting Blades Rogue Gems and Consumables
Gems come in various qualities from Chipped to Royal. While the Gem properties do not change, the traits improve with higher quality. We only list the highest quality Gems here, but you should always socket the best Gem you can craft and equip at your level. Gems can be crafted at the Jeweler.
Best Armor Gems for Twisting Blades Rogue
Rubies are the best Armor gems for Twisting Blades Rogue, simply due to survivability added by it, along with the interactions it has with many of our self-healing effects that scale with Max Life.
Best Weapon Gems for Twisting Blades Rogue
Critical Strike Damage is this build's basis and adding more of it with the Emerald weapon gems is ideal.
Best Jewelry Gems for Twisting Blades Rogue
The choice of gems in your Jewelry slots will depend massively on whether or not you are at the 9,230 Armor cap or not, as well as if you have the boots. If you do not have the boots, you should use resistance gems for whichever targeted element you want, or Diamonds if you want All Resist. If you have the boots, as well as Armor cap with a gem slot to spare, you should use Diamonds.
Jeweler Guide
Best Elixirs and Incense for Twisting Blades Rogue
Elixirs offer a wide variety of effects, along with an Experience boost of up to 8%. Elixirs can be either offensive or defensive, and a few of them are so powerful that you can only get them as drops, or you must find their recipes to craft them. Incense works both in a group and solo, increasing Stats, Resistances, or defenses for 20 minutes for all nearby players. Elixirs and Incense can be crafted at the Alchemist. We recommend using any of the following Elixirs and Incense:
Elixirs
Incense
Your choice of Elixir is very simple and depends on your current gear level. If you are struggling to maintain Resource during burst phases, use the Elixir of Resourcefulness - if you are comfortable with your Resource management during burst, use Elixir of Precision.
As for the incenses, you will be using damaged-focused ones, due to your already very high defensive capabilities with this build.

Why is Momentum chosen? The text makes it sound like it only effects "cutthroat" abilities, and this build has none?

Why is there a poison imbuement and Puncture in the affixes?

For the chest armor, when looking at the build page it shows the aspect as Aspect of Shared Misery, while in the written guide it seems to assume you are using Wildbolt Aspect.
