TITLE: Diablo 4 Flurry Rogue Leveling Build Guide - Season 5
SHORT TITLE: Flurry Rogue Leveling Build Guide
Description: The Leveling Build Guide for Flurry Rogue in Diablo 4 covers best skills, Legendary Aspects, weapons, and gems for characters leveling 1-50.
This Wowhead build guide for the Flurry Rogue in Diablo 4 Season 5 covers the best skills for leveling from 1-50, including skills, rotations, and and choices for the Rogue unique class mechanic, Specialization.
This guide also covers gearing strategies for leveling, including the best Legendary Aspects to farm from dungeons in both lower-level and higher-level zones. We also direct you to which Gear Affixes and gems are most desirable for the Flurry Rogue.
Flurry Rogue Overview in Diablo 4
The Flurry Rogue leveling build has a fast-paced, in-their-faces melee playstyle that will quickly level your Diablo 4 Rogue to 50. We keep things simple in this build, so you can focus on cutting through massive bands of demons without worrying about evading through this or that mob at the right split second. Just get out there and lose your mind culling the denizens of Hell from our homeland of Sanctuary!
is the main skill in this build. You do maximum damage with Flurry by firing off 3 quick Punctures first (once you gain your Specialization,
Combo Points
at level 15). is chosen because it will help with Energy while making enemies Vulnerable.
helps you move through areas quickly and can get you out of trouble in a heartbeat. We take for significant Damage Reduction, plus it confers Movement Speed (new in Season 5) and provides some Critical Hit Chance when active. is a fantastic source of AoE damage. Finally, we add which slows enemies down while adding another source of Vulnerable.
Plenty of Vulnerable damage makes the Flurry Rogue leveling build awesome!
For information about the endgame version of this build, please see our guide:
Flurry Rogue Endgame Overview
Strengths and Weaknesses for Flurry Rogue
The Flurry Rogue's simple playstyle is its best asset. Although it is a fast-paced build, we avoid taking excessive Attack Speed to boost our Critical Hit Chance instead. Too much Attack Speed can make Flurry feel frustrating while leveling because you're always out of Energy. This build has several sources of Energy recovery throughout. We use Lucky Hit Chance (LHC) as a secondary focus for applying Vulnerable and Crowd Control effects. We increase our Puncture speed with an Aspect.
We are also partially Aspect-dependent for defense during Flurry leveling. Our main damage, defense, and Puncture-speed Aspects drop from Dungeons, making them easy to obtain. Although this build has no source of Unstoppable, in Season 5 hard Crowd Control (CC) effect durations on players have been halved, and we can now drink Healing Potions while CC'd.

How to Play Flurry Rogue
The Flurry Rogue leveling build has a simple skill rotation. You make 3 casts of to build
Combo Points
and then 1 cast of to spend the points and hit especially hard. The Puncture casts, along with your Lucky Hit chances to apply Vulnerable, will Vuln most of your enemies so that your Flurry can destroy them. When you encounter larger groups, use to make them explode. Alternate this with when you need to slow mobs down a bit.
This is a common rotation for the Flurry Rogue. The goal is to make enemies Vulnerable so you do enhanced damage to them with your strongest attacks. Monsters do not take extra Vulnerable damage when they are first hit; they must be given the Vuln status first. Remember to time your Imbuements to your Flurry hits to avoid spending them on a support skill.
- Use 3 times to maximize
Combo Points
.
- Use 1 time. Repeat the cycle as needed.
Optional: Use before Flurry to add damage and AoE explosions.
Optional: Use before Flurry to Chill and Freeze.
It's perfectly fine if you prefer to use both Imbuements all the time. Use one while the other is on Cooldown.
Rogue Overview
Best Leveling Skills for Flurry Rogue in Diablo 4
Players earn a total of 58 Skill Points through two methods:
48 points for levels 2-49.
You start at level 1 with no native Skill Point, and you transition from Skill Points to Paragon Points at level 50.
10 points from Zone Renown.
By earning 900 Renown points with each of the 5 zones, you earn 2 Skill Points per zone for a total of 10 points. These points are account-wide and will be available to all alts when earned on one character.
For a guide covering all Rogue skills, please see our guide:
Rogue Skills
Leveling Build for Flurry Rogue
This part of the guide focuses on the core of the build -- those skills you need to take and develop most as you approach level 50.
Active Skills for Flurry Rogue
This section includes the six Active skills you'll be using on your Skill Bar, in order of how they appear on the skill tree. Consult the tree for recommendations on which skills should be taken and when.
Puncture
(1/5)
Basic
Modifiers:
Puncture is an effective and speedy Basic skill that works well in our Melee build. It fires off 3 quick blades that help recover Energy and confer Vulnerable on our enemies. Each cast also provides 1
Combo Point
, which is an important damage booster in the Flurry Rogue build. You will gain the ability to build
Combo Points
when you complete your Specialization quest available at level 15.
Enhanced Puncture grants us a small amount of Energy.
Fundamental Puncture confers a chance to apply Vulnerable and makes the blades travel in a fan shape, making them easier to aim.
Flurry
(5/5)
Core
Modifiers:
Flurry is our Core skill and the star of our furious onslaught. We apply the to our Amulet as soon as possible for the Amulet's 50% boost to turn Flurry into a 360-degree juggernaut of pure bladed destruction. We take Flurry because we love the Melee playstyle.
Enhanced Flurry will apply extra damage to our Vulnerable victims as it extends and spreads even more Vulnerable enhancement around. Improved Flurry lowers our Energy cost and increases damage with successive casts (new in Season 5.)
Dash
(1/5)
Agility
Modifiers:
Although Dash can get us out of trouble in a hurry, it is most frequently used for mobility purposes. There's nothing like an express lane to the next pack of demons!
Enhanced Dash grants Critical Hit Chance (a reduced amount from Season 4). Methodical Dash gives us a second skill charge and reduces the cooldown per charge. (This Modifier was reworked in Season 5. Dash previously had 2 charges in the base skill.)
Dark Shroud
(5/5)
Subterfuge
Modifiers:
Dark Shroud is an essential skill in any Rogue build, whether taken Actively or Passively (triggered by an Aspect). It causes 5 Shadow forms to circulate around you, each providing an amount of Damage Reduction (DR). When you take a hit, it consumes one of the Shadows and causes the DR to go down by the protected amount. Having Shadows consumed can cause various effects, depending on what skill upgrades and Aspects you have active.
Enhanced Dark Shroud confers a chance that a Shadow avoids being consumed. It also grants additional Movement Speed per active Shadow.
Countering Dark Shroud grants Critical Hit Chance if you have at least 1 Shadow active.
Shadow Imbuement
(1/5)
Agility
Modifiers:
Shadow Imbuement applies a festering Shadow infection that causes enemies to explode when they die. This explosion deals significant damage to everything in range and can wipe out entire groups of foes.
Enhanced Shadow Imbuement goes after Injured enemies, granting your attacks a nice chunk of Critical Hit Chance to ensure that they're finished off quickly.
Blended Shadow Imbuement spreads Vulnerable to everything that somehow survives the blasts.
Cold Imbuement
(1/5)
Imbuement
Modifiers:
Cold Imbuement is a fun and effective Chill spreader. However, be aware of when you apply it. Imbuements do not work on Basic skills like Puncture at all and are largely wasted if you cast Dash immediately after using it. When cast, it will affect the next 2 Imbueable skills you use. For example, you can cast an Imbuement and then Flurry, do your 3 Punctures to fund
Combo Points
, and then use Flurry again. Your second Flurry will be Imbued.
Enhanced Cold Imbuement is yet another source of enemy Vulning and Blended Cold Imbuement can outright Freeze your enemies. There's nothing more satisfying than cubing fiery demons from Hell that had been frozen solid!
Passive Skills for Flurry Rogue
This covers the Passive Skills you'll want for Flurry Rogue, in order by how they appear on the tree. Consult the tree for recommendations on which skills should be taken and when.
Sturdy
(3/3)
Core
Sturdy provides a nice chunk of Damage Reduction from Close enemies. As a Melee fighter, you will want to be on the lookout for this critical ability anywhere you can find it.
Weapon Mastery
(3/3)
Agility
Weapon Mastery damage bonuses don't amount to very much in the long run but this Passive is better than many others on the skill tree. One thing that is a bit annoying about this Passive is that its bonuses don't align with the Implicits on the weapons. For example, the Implicit damage bonuses on Bows and Crossbows are Critical Strike Damage and Vulnerable, respectively. Weapon Mastery grants Vulnerable damage to the Bow instead. Most players like to stack damage bonuses and would prefer that these align. Nonetheless, this Passive is one of the better places to put your points, so we fund it with the maximum 3.
Unstable Elixirs
(3/3)
Agility
Unstable Elixirs is new in Season 5, replacing Concussive. It Stuns enemies when you drink a Healing Potion and increases all of your damage for the stated duration. This is a nice boost that can be kept active as long as your potions hold out.
Trick Attacks
(3/3)
Agility
Trick Attacks has been reworked in Season 5. It now provides a hefty amount of Critical Hit Chance and some Critical Strike Damage every time you Stun or Daze enemies.
Exploit
(3/3)
Subterfuge
Exploit is one of the best damage Passives on the Skill Tree. Virtually all monsters start Healthy, so this damage will occur to everything. Then you get to apply Exploit's damage again when the monster is low in Health (unless it's already dead!)
Malice
(3/3)
Subterfuge
Malice is conditional damage and not very much of it, but since we focus on making monsters Vulnerable, it makes good sense to take it anyway.
Shadow Crash
(1/3)
Imbuement
We take 1 point in Shadow Crash to access the skill behind it, although even a very short Stun has its uses. Stuns provide an interrupt to whatever nasty attack the monster may have been planning, giving you time to kill it before it even hits you.
Consuming Shadows
(1/3)
Imbuement
Consuming Shadows generates Energy when our Shadow Imbuement explosions wipe out foes.
Precision Imbuement
(3/3)
Imbuement
Precision Imbuement grants a nice chunk of Critical Hit Chance to our Imbued attacks.
Frigid Finesse
(1/3)
Imbuement
Frigid Finesse is a good Passive if you Freeze a lot of mobs. With and Lucky Hit Chance to Freeze Tempering affixes, we can keep a fair number of monsters Chilled and Frozen by adding Cold Imbuement as part of the regular skill rotation.
Adrenaline Rush
(1/3)
Ultimate
Adrenaline Rush provides a small bit of Energy regen while we're on our way to other skills. :)
Impetus
(3/3)
Ultimate
Impetus grants a decent damage bonus to our next cast of as long as we keep moving a lot. One thing the Flurry Rogue does constantly is move!
Haste
(3/3)
Ultimate
Haste provides a rather decent bonus depending on how full our Energy globe is. One or the other boost here is always active.
Close Quarters Combat
(1/1)
Key Passive
Close Quarters Combat is our Key Passive. The bonuses are triggered by using Marksman and Cutthroat skills. Since is Marksman and is Cutthroat, we will constantly be enjoying the extra Attack Speed because of the
Combo Points
mechanic. Adding Damage vs Crowd Controlled bonuses from affixes on gear and (later) Paragon will add further bonus damage.
Paragon Boards for Flurry Rogue
Players earn their first Paragon point at level 50. Since this leveling guide covers up through level 50, you'll need to look at our Flurry Rogue Endgame Build Guide for our recommendations on the best Paragon boards, Glyphs, and Legendary and Rare nodes:

Best Specialization Choices for Flurry Rogue
As soon as you make level 15, look in your Quest guide to find the location of your Specialization NPC and do the short questline that confers your
Combo Points
Specialization.
Combo Points
is the mechanic by which you greatly increase your Flurry damage by making 3 quick casts of Puncture first.

Flurry Rogue Best Leveling Gear for Diablo 4
Although you will depend on random drops for most of your gear, you will have a variety of choices available to you. You can also make informed decisions about whether an apparent upgrade is better for you based on other properties. You may even find yourself in a position of getting a build-defining Legendary Aspect drop -- for a build different from your own. In those cases, it may be worth considering changing builds as you level, since a respec is cheap at this stage.
Best Legendary Aspects from Dungeons
While you can't rely on getting a Legendary Aspect from a drop, you can find Legendaries in other ways. The good news is that there are Legendary Aspects you can acquire early on from Dungeons, which are then transcribed into your Codex of Power. Aspects from the first three zones -- Fractured Peaks, Dry Steppes, and Scosglen -- can be farmed very early on.
Best Farmed Legendary Aspects
Forsaken Quarry, Fractured Peaks
Halls of the Damned, Kejistan
Underroot, Scosglen
Buried Halls, Dry Steppes
We keep our recommended Aspect list short for 2 reasons: (1) This build is meant to be simple. Let's just go play, rather than stand at the Blacksmith and Occultist half the night; and (2) We don't really need that much until World Tier 3. In addition, you won't be able to afford, in mats or gold, to do a lot of crafting even if you salvage everything you find. But these 4 recommended Aspects will greatly enhance your playing experience when you can afford to add them to your gear.
Codex of Power Overview
Best Dropped Legendary Aspects
While we shouldn't have to rely on a dropped Aspect for a leveling build, some dropped Legendaries are great for the build. You'll want to keep your eyes out for these.
If you need to move these Aspects onto another item, consider reserving Amulet and Ring slots for applying dropped Aspects since you aren't going to replace these pieces as often while leveling. An Aspect imprinted on an Amulet also adds 50% more to the variable power -- the numbers in blue on the Aspect description. Reserve the Amulet slot for a high-quality Aspect, one that gives you a good power boost.
is new in Season 5. It adds another source of Flurry damage to our loadout, plus it confers a Stun. Feel free to leave it on whatever Legendary item it appears on, just don't forget to Salvage it so you can add it to your Codex of Power. is another new Aspect that is fun for this build. It makes all of your damage Cold, and adds extra damage to Chilled and Frozen monsters.
Occultist Crafting Overview Legendary Aspects Guide Rogue Legendary Aspects
Flurry Rogue Best Weapon Choices
Weapons are important to all classes in Diablo 4, since all player damage output keys off weapon damage. Therefore, it's very important to keep your weapon updated by replacing it regularly. Beyond that, Weapons also have Inherent Physical Characteristics native to that weapon type, so there often is a "best" weapon for a particular build.
Imprinting a two-handed weapon with a Legendary Aspect will increase that Legendary's variable power by 100%. Be sure to use Legendaries here that can benefit from it; one that just gives a flat +2 to Skill Ranks isn't going to give +4 when put onto a two-hander. The key here is to look at the variable (the numbers in blue text with a range) to see what the effect will be.
You will find a constantly changing variety of weapons as you level. In general, you always want to use the highest Damage per Second (DPS), but be on the lookout for high-end +%Damage affixes. A 300 DPS weapon with a +30% Damage modifier will do more damage than a 310 DPS weapon. These additive damage modifiers are worthwhile early on, but they quickly become diluted post-level 50 as your damage buckets increase. If in doubt, check the damage that is doing with each weapon equipped and use the highest one. Take into consideration all of the affixes on both weapons when making this decision. Or you can just ignore all this advice and always use the highest DPS levels 1-50 and you'll be just fine. :)
Gear and Itemization Overview Blacksmith Guide
Flurry Rogue Best Leveling Gems
Gems fit into gear sockets and add bonuses depending on whether they are in Armor, Weapons, or Jewelry. Starting at level 20, you'll be able to combine Gems to upgrade them to higher quality and higher bonuses.
Gems come in various qualities from Chipped to Royal. While the gem properties do not change, the traits improve with higher quality. Therefore, while we list only one quality of gem here for listing purposes, you should always socket the highest level gem you can get and equip at your level.
Armor Gems
For leveling, the Armor Gem decision is easy: Ruby for more Life! Later on you might consider using Stat Gems, usually to meet Paragon Glyph bonus requirements, but for now, a little more Dexterity isn't going to be helpful.
Weapon Gems
For weapons, we use the Sapphire for additional Vulnerable damage.
Jewelry Gems
During the 1-50 leveling period, Resistances can be a challenge. The Topaz, Ruby, and Sapphire provide some Lightning, Fire, and Cold Resistance as you level up.
Preparing to Respec for the Endgame
This leveling guide is a simple and fast build to get you into the endgame quickly. It is missing certain equipment Affixes, as well as various Aspect and Tempers that you will want to use as you move into World Tier 3 (wt3). As you get close to level 50, keep the following things in mind to make your transition smoother:
Resistances will become important. If you pick up gear that has elemental resistance affixes on it, consider keeping these stats rather than rerolling them to stats like Lucky Hit Chance or Maximum Life. Your resistances are all given a -25% penalty on wt3 and you'll want to make up this deficit.
Tempering will get better. You may begin finding Rare Tempering manuals. Be on the lookout for the Imbuement Abundance manual. It confers an extra Imbuement for each cast and is worth putting on your rings right away. The other Rare manuals aren't enough of an upgrade to replace existing Tempers, since you'll be significantly improving your equipment in wt3 with Sacred gear drops.
Legendaries will be everywhere. By the time you approach the level 40-50 period, you will have almost entirely Legendary gear, especially if you do a lot of Helltide runs. Take a look at the
Flurry Rogue Endgame Build Guide
to see the recommended Aspects and gear stat requirements for your upcoming respec and consider setting aside or equipping the items you'll need. I'll see you in the Pit!
