Wishing him well! Hope to see more of his amazing art somewhere soon!
I was always of the opinion that they should hire more dudes with wallet chains
So can we get some non clipping armor parts now?
LOK'TAR O'GAR!All the best Sam, the Horde will never be the same anymore without you. :(
He'll return, a lot of people who retire from blizzard ends up returning.
Thanks for all the great Artwork over the last 30+ years! You will be missed Mr. Didier./Salute!
Well, I can only guess why my two posts where I add nuance and dont speak just hatred towards the guy for no reason were truly deleted and not simply added a moderator note as in the other posters.Even after explaining that I am not after the guy and his art and work is to be respected for what he did at the company, and if you dislike the guy you gotta be able to separate the art from the artist. And that I would be more intrigued to know about his rumored connection to the production of the Blizzard new survival game that is in development. Felt like rewatching the 2011 presentation, while he was obviously just poking fun at the alliance players and talking fondly to the horde crowd before playing Power of the Horde (a banger btw), he then introduced the video guy after playing the video. As the song ended what came out of Didier's mouth was "Alliance suck!". Followed by the other guy calling alliance players p****es and to make some noise before leaving the stage. All this while Didier just smiled and kept the show going. He did poke a bit more at alliance and night elves later on but nothing too bad or serious. You can not tell me that that behavior is acceptable coming from a representative of a company that has an audience like Blizz does. Did he actually say F*** the alliance? I guess not!, but the whole bit was very awful regardless and he got blamed for it and I think those people while not fully in the right have a valid point. As mentioned in deleted post; At the time there was a considerable amount of hatred between some players and this whole bit did NOT help. And after doing some googling it was covered by website VG247 where they, and I quote, say "...the latest manifestation of a deeper problem, with reports of verbal abuse and even physical assaults on Alliance players at Blizzard gatherings and events." with other websites covering mostly the video showed. Your audience is a bunch of easily impressionable young and dumb people and you behave like that thinking they will get the "joke"? What would you expect... And this is just my opinion but Blizzard's apology came from Morhaime and not from Didier whom was seen as the one leading it since well, being the vocalist and getting the crowd going and introducing the other dude makes you the target. Plus it also came off as a sorry not sorry apology that big corporations do when there is enough backlash. 3 years later the band played the Alliance song as a way to "make up" for it. Did Didier learn something good from this experience? Its been 12 years since it happened after all and I would imagine that he did at the time.If you think stating any of this is still a false narrative then damn... do with this what you wish. Im walking out of this thread either way.
He's retiring because they had KPop at Blizzcon isn't he...
Legend./salute
Interesting to see what happens next. Much like a lot of other former 10/20 year+ Blizzard departures I feel like the next move for him is a short break and then a move to another studio. Eyes on where he goes. Ghostcrawler's new studio? Or maybe Morhaime's Dreamhaven? Metzen also has that Warchief gaming thing still right? I feel like Sams art would fit in there.
that's a shame, though it was kind of cringe when he started peddling NFTs.
Probably the most iconic guy at Blizzard alongside Metzen. Sad to see him go.
