More weapons to wear should increases the options for each build to find the best possible affix, which I think is a good thing. If it hurts the class fantasy Blizzard could just allow to transmog different weapon types.
Wait, sorcerers really couldn't use no swords?
Imo there should just be an array of base types for each weapon class. Right now all necromancers are using 2H scythe because its the highest top end damage (best for scaling damage). So making scythes into a minion / summon focused weapon just excludes all other builds. Maybe they need to normalise weapon dmg / weapon atkspd across the board to make it fair? They already have different types of scythes in the game (different models / names), just make one scythe do vulnerable, one scythe do crit dmg, one do minion dmg etc. Obviously this makes optimal gearing that much harder for those omegablasters / minmaxers. Maybe this means they will start looking at crafting from a base item in future seasons / updates too..
All weapons should be accessible to all classes.
Great change imo.
New innate affixes is good. Because Scythes being Life on Kill was a dead stat entirely.Axes and Staves means only Rogue lacks access to a DoT weapon. Support present for Shadow DoT Necro, Bleed Barb, Poison Druid, and Burn Sorc.Necro getting Maces helps for their Blood builds.Everyone can use Swords now for Critical Damage. Everyone can get Vulnerable Damage from one of the 3 sources.Druid get access to more Lucky Hit now with the change to Totems, and both Sorc and Necro can still get it without being locked to Wands (Cooldown Reduction is always terribly powerful, so understandable balance check to remove it from being an innate). With no more CDR in the equation, using a 2H, in a non-Lucky Hit-oriented build, doesn't feel terrible anymore.I will say, I think that Druids should get Scythes, for their Minion/Pet build.Beyond that though, there is one thing I feel should be changed: Base types of some Unique Weapons. If the innate affix is counter to the playstyle now, it should be changed. Example: The new Druid Unique staff for Season 5, "The Basilisk". It's based around Earth Magic and Petrify, great when Staves boosted Crowd Control damage (which is still shown as the innate affix in the screenshot from the Campfire Chat). But they are a DoT weapon now. Nothing in Earth's kit is going to do DoT damage. Turning it into a Polearm for Vulnerable instead, would at least be a bit more beneficial.Another one that really needs a hard look at (and I await to see what they do to it) is the Necromancer 2H Scythe "Bloodless Scream". Thematically, it sounds great, but execution has been a huge miss forever. With Scythes largely becoming the Minion-focused weapon class, I hope it can find a very interesting place in the kit as an option: Maybe empowering all minions to do Cold Damage or make them Chill with Shadow damage, which can combo with the Aspect that makes Skeletal Priest buff also make Warriors do Shadow Damage.
Why can Necro not uses staves yet? Thats literally the only weapons change I’m interested in. Axes? Really?Just roll it all back to D3 days where classes had one unique weapon type. Seemed to work fine I think.
