How wow! This was a fun read!Really does bring back the memories! I still alternate between my "Champion of the Naaru" and "Hand of A'dal" titles exclusively, probably because they were some of the most challenging for me to complete. Well, the latter more so. I think we were really getting down to the wire on that one! Maybe go over that one next :]
Great article, I wish I'd been playing at the time!I know it's not on-topic, but the cipher of damnation questline is one of two only possible ways to get this beautiful draenei-style transmog staff: Staff of the Redeemer. The only other way is a drop from Doom Lord Kazzak: Exodar Life-Staff, and that's not exactly for impatient people.
I started playing during Burning Crusade and although I didn't start raiding until ICC I wish they would return to an attunements system of some kind, though not quite so restrictive as BC. I'm not sure how you would integrate this into today's LFG model but there was a sense of progress and store development in dungeons that is largely missing today.I also enjoyed gradually working towards exalted with the various factions which added another layer of achievement other than gear.
I lved through BC but did not start doing Raids until Wrath. I missed on all of this attainment stuff. Back in the days when if you did not know 5 people you did not do dungeons. It was a very lonely grind on questing. If I had a cane I would be shaking it at you kids.
Unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but I really miss these sorts of things in game. Would be interesting to see how a model like this would do now that we have things like the premade finder.
Note: Even if you held onto those quests for years (I did), you still couldn't get the title after Cata came out. I did casual raiding in BC and skipped wrath to come back in Cata, and when I finally finished my trials of the naaru (already finished SSC), I didn't get the title. You certainly can't get it now.
I'm still pissed about <Hand of A'dal>.I had the quest once we were put into 3.0, opened a ticket asking a GM if I could still get the title, was told no, not unless I had at least one of the required quest items, so not too long after I abandoned it. I do have <Champion of the Naaru>
None of this would have been ANYWHERE near as bad if we'd had the dungeon finder back then. Building groups was like pulling teeth.

Still mad I dropped the final quest for the title from my log when Wrath hit. I had no idea they were going to remove it.
I just wanted to say that I had those quests 2 years ago, I completed them and didn't receive any title, I even got reply from blizzard somewhere, where they confirmed that despite having quests (the right ones) players are unable to receive the titles anymore. Now you can downvote, however this is the truth, and well generally I am unlucky person :).
I've seen people on the Wowhead quest pages talking about getting the titles still in 2015--you need specific quests in your log to complete it. For example, if you're on the early part of the chain, you wouldn't get the title, but the old Magtheridon quest counts.
Was it challenging back then? Yep but it was fun doing the attuning with friends...brings back memories
I did all of this stuff in wrath to get the key master achievement and then when cata dropped and they took out keys they took keymaster with it not even a fos like Did Somebody Order a Knuckle Sandwich?
I loved these attunement questlines. Really gave you something to work towards. Now that everyone and their mother does top tier raiding (in the form of LFR/Normal/Heroic/Mythic), though, I'm not sure it would work. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd like to see some form of it again.
I'd like to see all the old raids turned into 5 mans for Timewalking. Also hopefully we eventually get every dungeon in the game for Timewalking.
This is why my main was a Rogue in TBC. Got so many invites because I'd actually leveled my lockpicking and could bust into all these places when they were fresh content.Karazhan is still my favorite raiding experience of all time but honestly I don't really miss the huge pain in the ass trying to do attunement stuff was back before group finder.
