Disgusting that the community is like this. We can ALL be better, and it starts with NEVER accepting discrimination as a method of entertainment or conversation. Come on, world.
The mere acknowledgement of race is not racism, and in this instance lends to clarification of the subject.
Im not a white hearthstone player I am a hearthstone player. To add color to any statement even if you mean well is in itself racist.
Mate, you just said you are not a "white hearthstone player". By your logic, you are being racist now. Racism generally starts with ignorance, and being ignorant of other peoples races can mislead some individuals to dislike people who are different. Besides, this is a news article. Stating the race of the individual helps the viewer understand what the situation is and which race is being discriminated against..
I would have to agree with don1010220. I don't think he is informing us that "He is not a white Hearthstone player". He is not saying he is not white, to me he appears to be saying that if he or say Reynad, would not not be described in a story as a "white Hearthstone Player". They would just be described as a Hearthstone player or a streamer. Would Hearthhead describe Eloise as the "Chinese member of team Tempo Storm" ?
This is a sad event...I had hoped that America had gotten past its phase of racism.
Words and faces. In a Twitch chat. From random no ones, who will forget about the fact upon closing the tab. My, my, what an outrage, my fellow SJWs. Let's write a text-wall on racism and go get them.Who cares what messages they see fit to leave? The Miller guy himself cares not and rightfully so. Last I checked people on the Internet weren't barred from making fun of others, whatever skin colour or condition (e.g. Forsen is a clown, Kripp is a casual, Amaz is Scamaz, Reynad — a salty dog and so on, and so forth). Everyone gets their due in memes and acidity. The part of being of different race doesn't and shouldn't make one untouchable. Don't we strive for equality?
Honestly, just turn off the dammn chat. Like you are here to watch a production. In my opinion the best option is to make the chat subscriber only. If they wanna chat and say racist thing then they can pay.
If Esports in general ever want to be taken seriously then something needs to be done about this racist, sexist crap. It's 2016 and we are still dealing with stuff that would seem at home in a hate rally from the 50s/60s.
I seldom comment but this makes me ill we are all of the same fabric and it is not all the same color I hope at some point the world grows up and we quit hating because we are unable to preform at a level someone else can. There is no excuse for this kind of garbage
Racism doesn't have to be negatives. Saying Asians are good at math is racist but not Negative (unless you are anti math)
The worst part of all of this? The community does not care and in fact LIKES to troll and be racist.Evidence: Most of the comments on this article.
I've deleted a bunch of comments that don't approach this in a mature way and I'm always happy to delete more :P I suggest that anyone that wants to get into this topic take extra care with what they say and how they say it.
This was the big "takeaway" quote for me:
Trying to have a good chat experience with thousands of people writing, is never going to happen, regardless of what's being written. Furthermore, they're only saying it, because they know you don't want them to say it. Caring about what people say in a chat that no one can read, is pretty pointless. Trolling is what Twitch is about. Their employees encourage and reward streamers who know how to garnish attention by encouraging these trolls. Racism just happens to be what Twitch pretends to care the most about, that's why it's so widespread. If Twitch pretended to care about commenting on streamers' weight, then it would be even more popular to do.
