Hope things get only better for these guys
Good, I'm happy for them.
1. I am ALL for unionizing. Not just here but everywhere. The USA is way too lenient on companies interfering with the creation of unions. They should take a strong look at european labour laws like germanys and try to emulate it.2. The raven software situation is weird. You take a job as a contractor and MOVE for this possible temp job and then people get mad that the contracts does not get renewed?
RIP
"The news that some 500 temp contracts were being made full time (followed by another 1,100) was supposed to be placating..."You have zero basis for this argument as it's based purely on speculation and feeling.I'm in favor of employees standing up for their rights as defined by their job status (temp, exempt, non-exempt, etc) but don't forget that an employer is also well within their rights to terminate employees based on that same status and working within a legal framework.People can be upset all they want, but legally they (Blizzard) were well within their rights to do what they did. Asking if it's right or wrong is an incorrect question. What people are really asking if it's morally right or wrong. That's a personal choice and one you can decide with your wallet.Don't hold them over the fire for doing what was well within their legal rights.
I don't really have an opinion on this, Unions are not bad or good by default. They say the right stuff, We'll have to see what they do and if those folks are taken care of.
Instead of self-reflecting on why their contracts weren't renewed, they formed a Union? lol
Lol it would be funny, tomorrows headline... Blizzard dissolves raven studios because budget constraints. HAHA
Welcome to the big game. Hopefully, the roots of CWA are of honorable work ethics, and not the greed of massive membership fees and over-the-top use of budgeting. I hope to see good results for a union in a war in a country where unions are hardly welcomed. I hope to see strong employee support and employer negotiation skills to secure a brighter future for the members of the union, and future members of the industry.
Expect more work not to be done until they meet X, Y, or Z demand! 🤡
Hell yes! Here's to a better industry over all.
Congrats!
Employees need to unionize because many of them are easily-replaceable, and thus have little leverage in negotiations. Letting the employers have all the leverage is bad for the society as a whole. That's why unionization and collective bargaining needs to be recognized legally. On the other hand, there are places/countries/industries where unions have so much power that caused investors to refrain from investing in those industries, because there exists a point beyond which it's not worth it to do business at all. This also harms the society as a whole. As long as there is a balance between the power between the unions and the employers, I'm fine with unionization. I'll support whichever side is at a weaker position. The goal here is to have as many jobs available as possible that pays as much as possible.
Good on them! Here's hoping it's a step toward better labor practices in the industry going forward!
Awesome! Unions are important and especially so in the video game industry, which is full of crunch and horrible working conditions. Here's to more organizing efforts across the board!
