Vanion.eu
interviewed Lead Encounter Designer Morgan Day about Tomb of Sargeras and raiding in Legion. Yesterday
Slootbag interviewed Morgan Day
and we also previewed the
Kil'jaeden encounter on the PTR
.
Here are some of the highlights from the interview:
Raid Order -
Goroth
must be defeated first, then players can progress through the Naga wing (
Harjatan
and
Maîtresse Sassz'ine
),
Demonic Inquisition
, or
Sisters of the Moon
and
Desolate Host
. Then the raid proceeds in a more linear fashion through
Damoiselle de vigilance
,
Avatar déchu
, and
Kil'jaeden
.
There is a difficult "elevator boss" between Maiden and Fallen Avatar.
It's difficult to pick a favorite fight but Morgan is excited about the Fallen Avatar fight because it utilizes the environment in a cool way. In phase 2, the whole bottom floor is fragmented and broken up into little pieces.
The
Kil'jaeden
fight utilizes a cool new tech mechanic - Fog of War. This is a darkness effect that is spread over the entire raid, and one is dependent on the help of Velen and Illidan to find their way around. It's always exciting when new movement/system tech is introduced and is tried out in new raids - the Gul'dan encounter had some new tech as well.
There is a shortcut to get to the final boss - once you defeat Maiden four times, you can skip to the elevator area.
Mythic bosses are tuned around everyone having 2 legendaries - but not any specific legendaries - as well as Concordance.
Secret boss phases in Mythic difficulty are cool, but the encounter team does not view them as a requirement when designing encounters. If it makes sense for lore purposes like Gul'dan they'll do it - but other bosses do not lend themselves to special phases like Mythic Blackhand.
No spectator mode planned for raids.
