Youtuber Hirumaredx did a Dragonflight Lore Interview with Steve Danuser! In the interview, they discussed Nozdormu and the Infinite Dragonflight, the threat of "what is to come", and those new whispers from N'Zoth that have us all speculating!
Highlights
When the Jailer talks about "a Cosmos divided cannot stand against what is to come", he's making the same speculative reference to potential threats that we've seen from some other lore characters, such as Firim and Saezurah of Zereth Mortis, and even N'Zoth during
Battle for Azeroth
. The fact that multiple entities from different backgrounds seem to be hinting at the same thing is not a coincidence.
Story that deals with alternative timelines is fundamental to the character of Nozdormu, and it seems likely we will be seeing more of that in Dragonflight. For example, Nozdormu may perceive a point in time as inevitable, while others might perceive it as one of many possibilities.
The Infinite Dragonflight have a clear objective, but they are not a monolith.
The choice between singular vs. split storytelling comes down to the story they're wanting to tell. Something like BFA really needed separate Alliance and Horde points of view, while Dragonflight can be more unified in its focus. Split storytelling does come with certain costs, where time and resources have to be split as well, but they're not against doing it again if the story calls for it.
Margrave Krexsus served the purpose that he was meant to serve - an embodiment of the ideal Maldraxxus that was being killed off by dark forces conspiring to change it.
Andrestrasz's original purpose has been lost to time, but that doesn't mean they'll never do something with him.
Hearthstone characters who have shown up in World of Warcraft are not necessarily going to have the same story or reveals as they do in Hearthstone. Reno Jackson is not necessarily a dragon, he can just be a fun, adventurous human.
N'Zoth's
new voice lines in Dragonflight
were deliberately chosen - Steve Danuser wrote them himself. We are meant to be asking questions and thinking about the implications.
The Ethereals are a lot of fun and we can expect to see more fun, cool stuff with them when the time is right.
The difficulty of having players affect the story in an MMO is it can mean players feel bad when they've been overruled by others. They're not ruling it out, but if they did bring something like that in, it would have to be for the right situation.
