Which Classes Will Improve The Most in Phase 2 - Season of Discovery

Phase 2 of Season of Discovery brings with it a new level 40 cap. Even without Runes this will massively shake up the meta, but of course, there will always be winners and losers each Phase. This article will cover the most impactful new spells and talents gained between levels 26 and 40, estimating which classes will see the biggest improvements for Phase 2.
This list aims to look into what classes are looking the strongest and weakest in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery, without advance knowledge of what will be added or changed in Phase 2. New Runes and items, as well as changes to existing spells and items will likely have a drastic impact on what is and is not strong in Phase 2.
Warlock

Warlocks are looking incredible in Phase 2. Destruction gets
Verderben
, one of the biggest power boosters in Classic. While other specs get similar Critical Damage boosts, most don't get it for just one point. On top of that, Demonology Warlocks get the incredibly powerful
Seelenverbindung
, which even before
Metamorphose
could turn a Warlock into a one-man army.
Unfortunately, the newest rank of
Schattenblitz
is at level 36, which could have been a massive hit to
Verderben
and Warlocks overall. That would be if we didn't have
Verbrennen
, which scales with your level, and does Fire damage, enabling some damage boosts
Schattenblitz
can't touch.
To go with
Verbrennen
, Warlocks also get access to
Fluch der Elemente
. While Rank 1 is only a 6% damage increase, that is still a very significant bonus. Deep Destruction also has access to
Glutsturm
, bringing a flat 10% Fire damage (or 8% if you want
Feuersbrunst
).
Going along with the massive boosts to Fire damage, the newest rank of
Feuerbrand
is available at level 40, making it very strong for the Phase. On the flip side, the newest rank of
Aderlass
is available at 36, which while definitely not as bad as Phase 1, still means pressing it at least once per
Schattenblitz
or
Verbrennen
.
Verderbnis
and
Sengender Schmerz
also suffer a bit of a hit, with the newest ranks available at 34.

No list is ever complete without mentioning the brown class. All three of the Warrior capstone talents are immensely strong. Both
Tödlicher Stoß

Blutdurst
are instant cast full damage weapon attacks for 30 Rage, and
Schildschlag
is a high damage single target dispel on for just 20 Rage.
Arms Warriors also get access to
Weitreichende Stöße
and a weapon specialization of their choosing, while Fury Warriors get
Todeswunsch
and
Schlaghagel
.
Verbessertes Zerschmettern
is also available, if that was to end up being the meta.
Of course, one of the biggest upgrades is
Berserkerhaltung
and
Wirbelwind
, both of which will massively increase Warrior DPS.
Berserkerwut
is also available, giving a more reliable way of triggering
Geißelung
and
Wütender Schlag
.
If nothing changes for Season of Discovery,
Wirbelaxt
is also available, giving Warriors a very reliable pre-raid weapon.
Verheerer
also exists, and while the proc is notoriously unreliable, no one can deny just how fun spin to win is.
X'caliboar
is also a top notch option for Human and/or
Schwert-Spezialisierung
Warriors.

An unexpected spot on this list goes to Bear Druids. A lot of what makes them especially strong in Phase 2 is also available to Cat DPS, but the opportunity cost for them is significantly higher.
At level 40 you get

, giving you a big boost to your bulk. This is meant to mirror Plate for Warrior tanks, but at level 40 there isn't a significant amount of Plate available, giving Bears the advantage. You also get

, which can help alleviate some strain.
Bear Druids still have the potential to bring

, as long as

is a percentage bonus to Attack Power instead of a flat number, meaning it could be stronger depending on what the gear looks like.

Feenfeuer (Tiergestalt)
is available, giving you a way to reduce Armor in form (also a ranged pull without dedicating a Rune to it).

are available to Cats of course, but grabbing

While Rogues don't learn many new spells from their trainer, they do gain access to some vital new talents. Combat Rogues get a weapon specialization of their choice, as well as

Klingenwirbel
brings some much needed AoE to the Rogue toolkit, and
Adrenalinrausch
enables some very strong burst periods.
Assassination Rogues also get some classics like

, but with Poisons being even stronger than usual, it is worth nothing that they also get

, which make

even stronger. Unfortunately, poor

still isn't any good, but that means the point can be spent elsewhere.
Subtlety Rogues get their fair share of bangers, with

also becomes available, and the Physical damage increase is proportionally very strong at level 40.
An honorable mention needs to be made, as Rogues learn

in Phase 2, bringing them closer to their usual status as a PvP terror.
Fire Mage

is now also available, giving 15% increased Fire damage at 5 stacks, making Warlocks instantly fall in love with you. Speaking of Warlocks, they finally pick up their slack and bring
Fluch der Elemente
, a solid damage boost for Fire and Frost damage casters.
At level 40, Mages will have just gotten a fresh new rank of
Versengen
, but unfortunately the newest rank of
Feuerball
is available at level 36. If nothing else, this makes stacking
Verbessertes Versengen
significantly less punishing than it could be. You will also have access to
Magische Rüstung
and two different Mana gems with
Manaachat herbeizaubern
and
Manajadestein herbeizaubern
, giving you a lot more control over your mana.
Shadow Priest

After an awful Phase 1, Shadow Priest needs a bit of a pick-me-up. The glow up from level 25 to 40 is quite likely the biggest relative jump in power of any spec. Unfortunately, without some powerful new Runes, this jump might not mean much.
The combination of

Schattenwirken
is an almost 50% Shadow damage increase, and coincidentally they get a fresh new rank of

at level 40.
To bring Shadow Priests back to earth,
Fluch der Schatten
isn't available by level 40, and the newest rank of
Gedankenschinden
is available at level 36, making it a bit outdated by max level. With Warlocks likely opting to play Fire instead of Shadow,
Schattenwirken
is unlikely to be a high value debuff in most raids.
Finally, Gnomeregan is full of Mechanical enemies, and unless Blizzard makes some changes, they are immune to diseases, making one of the strongest Phase 1 Runes,

Similarly to Shadow Priests, Elemental Shaman gets a massive glow up between Phases. Their relative power massively increases, but without some new Runes to patch the holes, they are unlikely to end up topping the meters.
Putting 31 points into Elemental gives

, an on-demand guaranteed Crit every 3-minutes. While this spell may seem underwhelming just based on the description, if you cast a spell with a cast-time, and follow it by queueing an instant spell, they will both have the 100% Critical Chance. This means

, followed by
Erdschock
allows for a very strong burst every 3-minutes. Depending on how
Überladung
interacts with

, you might even get a second

, for a single point you get

, giving a 100% increased Critical Damage boost. As worded, this should apply to any Fire, Frost, and Nature Runes, including

The base rotation for Elemental is also a little bit faster, with

reducing the cast time of

Kettenblitzschlag
by a full second. This goes very well with the fresh rank of
Kettenblitzschlag
available at level 40, and the slightly less fresh rank of
Blitzschlag
at level 38.
