Late last week, it was announced that Diablo 4 would be holding a Hardcore Race to Level 100 contest starting on June 1st. The first 1,000 players to reach level 100 on Hardcore mode and share their achievement via Twitter would have their BattleTags engraved on a physical statue of Lilith that would live on the Blizzard campus in California.

However, this announcement stirred some controversy over the weekend, as it was revealed on May 26th that some reviewers and content creators had access to a review build of Diablo 4 for multiple weeks. As the community began to make their voices heard that this preview build would make the contest less equitable, the Diablo team decided to update the ruleset of the competition to restrict the eligibility of those who were able to participate in the closed review build.
While this initial oversight did bring some level of concern to the fans of the franchise, it is ultimately commendable that the Diablo team was able to recognize and respond to this issue based on community feedback so quickly. While many of us eagerly await the introduction of traditional leaderboards, this Hardcore Leveling competition will surely set Diablo 4's Preseason off with a bang. With Diablo 4 launching later this week, we look forward to seeing what builds and which players come out on top!
