Several raid groups have cleared Zul'Gurub since went live today with Phase 4 of Classic WoW, but <BLaDE of KiLL> on Arugal-OCE was not only one of the first groups to defeat Hakkar, they did so with all 5 High Priests still alive! Long considered nearly impossible, this is a major accomplishment never achieved during Vanilla WoW (
Update
: See below for evidence regarding a previously unknown first kill by Chinese group Seventh Heaven). Most groups leave Hakkar for last, as any living High Priest will buff the boss with a dangerous new ability:
Aspecto de Jeklik
(
Alta-sacerdotisa Jeklik
): Deals ~1500 AOE damage and silences everyone in the area for 8 seconds.
Aspecto de Venoxis
(
Sumo Sacerdote Venoxis
):
Sangue Corrompido
also deals ~800 Poison damage to the raid.
Aspecto de Mar'li
(
Alta-sacerdotisa Mar'li
): Stuns the person in the top of the aggro threat for 6 seconds, resetting their threat.
Aspecto de Thekal
(
Sumo Sacerdote Thekal
): Hakkar gains 150% increased attack speed.
Aspecto de Arlokk
(
Alta-sacerdotisa Arlokk
): Gouges the person in the top of the aggro threat for 2 seconds, resetting their threat.
While the fight isn't mechanically difficult, especially with the short kill time, the added buffs make Hakkar
extremely
dangerous, capable of killing tanks in seconds. Losing threat also becomes a very real concern, with the group utilizing 4 Fury/Protection specced Warrior tanks using Recklessness to help build their threat rather than relying on Shield Wall to stay alive, further increasing the risk in an already dangerous encounter.
Although they make it look easy, the amount of preparation, min/maxing, and practice which goes into these races should not be overlooked. <BLaDE of KiLL> went in with a full range of buffs and debuffs, including full consumables,
Aniquilador
,
Dádiva de Arthas
,
three
Warriors with
Tormentária, Lâmina Sagrada do Perseguidor dos Ventos
and several Grand Marshal rank players, not to mention hours of practice perfecting positioning on the PTR. But with these advantages also comes increased risk - they used
Maldição da Temeridade
at the cost of increasing Hakkar's already inordinately high damage and even specifically avoided using a Hunter to
Tiro Tranquilizante
the
Aspecto de Thekal
buff in order to bring an extra Warrior for greater damage, making their run an all or nothing race to defeat the boss before it killed them with
Sifão de Sangue
90 seconds into the encounter.
One of their Annihilator and Thunderfury wielding Warriors, Retrofresh, recorded their 1 minute and 21 second Hakkar kill.
Mature Language Warning!
<BLaDE of KiLL>'s Classic victory.
Some players may remember the guild <Elitist Jerks>, led by none other than
World of Warcraft
Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, attempting the boss mere hours before
The Burning Crusade
expansion launched in December 2006. Despite being in full Naxxramas gear and utilizing a unique strategy to deal with the added mechanics, their best attempt ended at a heartbreaking 2% wipe, showing just how obscenely difficult the encounter was at the time. Of course there have been some changes and more than a decade worth of theorycrafting between then and now, but we can finally call this a true world first accomplishment.
The closest known Vanilla attempt.
Update
: The Chinese guild
Seventh Heaven
made a forum post and video in June of 2007 claiming the actual first 5 Priest Hakkar. Although
The Burning Crusade
launched in the rest of the world four months prior (Jan 2007), the Chinese version of the game is handled separately.
