Retribution Paladin Current Bug List on Patch 9.1 PTR

Bolas has compiled a list of current bugs for Retribution Paladin, with new bugs from the Covenant Legendaries in Patch 9.1 but there are also some older bugs that are still present.
A few of these bugs have already been fixed on the PTR:
Comando Virtuoso
's buff now refreshes correctly
Rastro da Verdade
's damage is now the correct amount, but still won't apply the debuff if the initial
Rastro de Cinzas
is completely absorbed
New Covenant Legendaries
Brasas Radiantes
and
Ressonância Divina
precombat casts no longer work
Introduction
In a game as complex as World of Warcraft, there's unfortunately almost always going to be some bugs present for one spec or another. Ret has been historically fortunate to not suffer from as many issues as some other specs, such as Windwalker, but with Shadowlands we've seen a lot more bugs pop up. Usually these would be addressed relatively quickly, however this expansion many of the same bugs have persisted in the game since beta. The issues in particular that inspired this post are to do with the new Covenant Legendaries coming in 9.1, as detailed below, but the older bugs are just as in need of fixing.
Major Issues
These problems all have a noticeable negative effect on damage or gameplay.
Pena de Morte
snapshots Mastery on cast, but not Versatility or Strength
As Kyrian, the Pelagos soulbind is best for Retribution, which provides a mastery bonus when

is cast thanks to

. However, it's much better to cast

after

, for the burst Holy Power generation and to boost
Pena de Morte
's damage. This means that the base damage portion of each

cast ends up being significantly lower than it should be.

's buff doesn't refresh with additional
Julgamento
casts.
This issue was also mentioned in the last
Paladin Legendary recap
. This usually only becomes an issue when
Julgamento
is cast more frequently than once every 5 seconds, which doesn't happen often outside of
Preço Divino
. However, with the new Kyrian Legendary,
Ressonância Divina
, what should be a buff with constant uptime for its 30s duration ends up only being active for 60-70% of the time, depending on how lucky you get with server lag.
Comando Virtuoso
doesn't work outside of melee range.
While it makes sense for
Golpe do Cruzado
and normal melees,
Lâmina da Justiça
and
Veredito Final
can both be cast from a further distance away than melee range.
Rastro da Verdade
damage is lower than should be expected
Its damage is about 10-15% lower than the tooltip states, depending on conduit level. Additionally, its damage is based purely on the amount that the initial
Rastro de Cinzas
did, which means that if
Rastro de Cinzas
's damage is completely absorbed then the conduit does no damage. This is a problem when one of the only situations you'd consider using this conduit in raid, on
Stone Legion Generals
, it doesn't actually do anything to help burst through
Carapaça de Pedra Volátil
s.
Venthyr and Kyrian covenant abilities can be cast precombat with new Legendaries equipped, then swapped, while keeping the Legendary benefit.
As these Legendaries aren't on live yet, this issue only exists on the PTR. The new Covenant Legendaries for Venthyr and Kyrian,
Brasas Radiantes
and
Ressonância Divina
, can be used to buff precombat casts of their covenant abilities. Once cast, the Legendary can be swapped for another one, while the Legendary bonus still persists for that first cast. For
Consagração Cinzenta
, this means that the first cast will have a 45s duration instead of 30s, and for
Preço Divino
you'll get 6 free
Julgamento
casts. This works in raids since you can place
Consagração Cinzenta
slightly away from a boss before combat starts, and
Julgamento
has a travel time so it won't immediately put you in combat. These bugs will also affect other Paladin specializations.
Minor Issues
These aren't issues that have a large impact, but should still be fixed nonetheless.
Desígnio Divino
procs with
Tormenta do Arauto da Luz
equipped buff the projections of the
Tempestade Divina
that proc it, as well as the next
Tempestade Divina
.
This results in a very minor 20% buff to the
Tormenta do Arauto da Luz
projections of any
Tempestade Divina
that procs
Desígnio Divino
.
Tormenta do Arauto da Luz
projections can consume
Julgamento
debuffs.
If the initial
Tempestade Divina
doesn't hit an enemy with a
Julgamento
debuff but the subsequent projection does, it will consume the debuff to buff its damage. This may be an intended interaction, but it's a negative one if it is intended, since you'd much rather consume the debuff with another full damage
Tempestade Divina
than a 20% strength projection.
Another Paladin with
Aura da Retribuição
active dying doesn't proc your own
Aura da Retribuição
.
Doesn't occur often, but it's very frustrating when it does.
The free
Tempestade Divina
from
Martelo do Subjugador
doesn't give
Inquisidor Incansável
stacks,
Cruzada
stacks, or proc
Ira Santificada
damage.
Other effects that provide free Holy Power spenders like
Desígnio Divino
or
Poder Empíreo
do work with these abilities, so
Martelo do Subjugador
should as well for consistency.
Desígnio Divino
and
Poder Empíreo
procs give an extra stack of
Inquisidor Incansável
.
Since
Inquisidor Incansável
stacks almost never drop anyway, this isn't really a large issue.
Veredito Final
ability tooltip is incorrect.
The tooltip for the ability itself displays the older, pre-9.0.5 damage amount.
Conclusion
Although some of the minor issues clearly don't have much of a negative effect, I wanted to list all of the bugs we're aware of to give you an idea of just how many bugs there are that need fixing. In particular, being able to precast covenant abilities with new Legendaries is a bug that absolutely needs fixing before 9.1 releases. Needing to spend
Cinzas d'Alma
for a Legendary that you'll only use before a pull would be an awful situation to be in, and obviously isn't intended. Other than the bugs specific to 9.0.5 or 9.1 changes, pretty much all the other bugs have existed in the game since beta. It's very frustrating to know that
Pena de Morte
and
Rastro da Verdade
do less damage than they should, and that
Comando Virtuoso
's uptime is too low, only because of bugs that are yet to be fixed. That said, Retribution is far from unique in having bugs negatively affect its damage, and hopefully other specs with similar issues have them addressed as well.
