Hoping it doesn't take them too long to show us the new collection metas for mounts/pets/toys etc so we can see how much is required for each and what the prize itself is!
There is a quest in Northrend for the Horde that involves recruiting the Taunka to the Horde. They are required to swear a blood oath;"Lok'tar ogar! Victory or death-it is these words that bind me to the Horde. For they are the most sacred and fundamental of truths to any warrior of the Horde.I give my flesh and blood freely to the Warchief. I am the instrument of my Warchief's desire. I am a weapon of my Warchief's command. From this moment until the end of days I live and die-for the Horde!"From this perspective, Sylvanas isn't evil at all. She uses the plague to kill and resurrect soldiers to build a stronger army-For the Horde! She blows up Lordaeron to keep it out of Alliance hands-For the Horde! Even in the trailer for BFA, she yells For the Horde. I think Vol'jin chose her specifically because she was the only Horde leader who could be ruthless and savage in war. It's amusing that so many Horde players are getting so upset now. Honor isn't even mentioned in the blood oath. Don't expect Sylvanas to be anything but true to the Horde 's survival.
I remember MK. We used to spend hours at the arcades playing. See. Old school gamers didn't grow up with safe rooms and cuddle dogs. The times have indeed changed.
So... Sylvanas isn't evil because being Horde actually doesn't require to have any virtuous qualities at all? And just requires you to follow Warchief's command whatever it is with no limitations whatsoever? That doesn't compute. By that standard, it's not just Sylvanas being evil, it's the entirety of the Horde being evil. There is literally no other way to break this oath other than disobeying the Warchief. And if there is nothing more to it, then being Warchief would make you eligible to do literally anything you wanted. What could Sylvanas possibly do to be evil by this limited definition? I can't think of anything. If she decided to kill all of her subjects and raise them as Forsaken, she would still be doing that "For the Horde!" Because there could be many pragmatic reasons for doing that and Sylvanas is the only one who decides what's good and what's needed. Also, even if she started the war, officially admitted to it, and made up literally any kind reason for it ranging from "securing Horde's future by genociding all of her enemies" to "it's just way too enjoyable to kill everyone", it's still not violating this oath.So part of your argument would only make sense if you stated that Horde indeed is evil and always was meant to be. But there is a problem that Blizzard failed to communicate that to the players... and still fails to this day.If that's the case, why so many hamfisted attempts to make the Horde look virtuous in game? It may concern just some small side quests... but it breaks the immersion if the fantasy of the Horde is being the evil faction. If it is evil, it should go all the way! No Thrall, Vol'Jin, Saurfang, Liadrin, Dezco or Baine like characters. Or they should be treated as the villains by the Horde. No quests saving innocents. No quests restoring nature or balance. No quests having NPCs of the Alliance races calling you a hero. No quests making you to ally with the Alliance. And most of all - no world saving fantasy. If the Horde is evil, then they shouldn't fight the bad guys the Alliance fights. They should join them. They should use whatever means to defeat the Alliance. Why trying to defeat the Lich King, the Burning Legion or the Void if we can ally with them? Makes no pragmatic sense to fight two enemies at the same time. Especially if they are so willing to crush the Alliance. If the only value the Horde has is serving the Warchief, then all it takes is for the Warchief to think it's a good idea to ally with the bigger baddies. And everyone who doesn't fall in line should be suppressed. And in that case, the Warchief claiming "I am the Horde" sentiment should rule supreme. No stupid lies about granting Forsaken a free will can change the fact that they have no choice. Just like your character. You don't fight for the Horde, you fight for the Warchief. You just call him (or her) "the Horde".
Just a reminder with faction discussions, please keep it civil no matter your viewpoints! I appreciate the detailed discussion so far, but for those thinking of joining in, no name-calling, insults etc.
