Seems this is not directly from wow universe or warcraft: Humans vs orcs plot but i hope they did good work anyway.
The problem of many Warcraft "Fans" is, that they complain the charakters in the Warcraft 1 timeline with the World of Warcraft Timeline. So its nothing special, that the charakters looks diffrent between Warcraft and World of Warcraft. However Garona looks for a half orc & half draenei, very human.
With all the money blizzard has, I'd expect a movie that is at least as good as avatar was with special effects. This looks like it was made by some youtube fan, crudely splicing live actors onto CG bodies with after-effects, or maybe windows movie maker. The "humanization" of the horde was a terrible call. Whoever decided to go in that direction should be fired by now. They're supposed to be barbaric, thuggish and monster-like. Like the game itself, seems as if the creative direction at blizzard is a victim of its own success...and is dying a slow death, but it will grab dollars of the fan-drones as it flails in its death throes.
I agree wholeheartedly... I guess, many people either don't care or don't even notice when a female character is shown this way because it's so damn pervasive. Not to mention the slight discrepancy when it comes to their (->us) real life counterparts:/ Depending on my mood and level of envolvement, this can be a real smack in the face.
They have to put in the "alternate timeline" bit to distinguish it for diehard lore nuts who will scream if anything is changed. Look at the Hobbit, it's far from a carbon copy of the book and was made to appeal to both fans and non-fans who like fantasy and action. I know a few friends and classmates of mine, all who know little about the game, are looking forward to the movie and I think it is good that Blizzard has been able to draw in other people. As for Garona, she was believed to be half human to start with then they tossed in the draenei stuff later. If they brought that aspect up now, non-fans of WoW would most likely be deterred from the extra information that would need some background to explain what the draenei are. Her pose is to be expected for any contemporary movie in the current decade and is not a huge surprise (I'll admit should could use some pants, but I'm sure she will be more of a bad*ss rogue in the movie.) The movie needs to be simple enough for new people to understand, but also retain the main bits and pieces to keep veterans in too.
