Vashj'ir remains my favorite zone in the game. So many good memories.
I traded in my H ICC 10 gear for quest greens in Hyjal. In cata, my favorite zone was EPL for the storyline. If not for Uldum, Vashj'ir would've been my least favorite zone.
I also went to Vashj'ir because it was the first quest I picked up. Took me forever to figure out how to use the water bowl (thought we were supposed to click the portal, which was inactive). I really enjoyed that zone and think it still remains one of the best zones today. It's beautiful, it's fun and it has a very epic storyline that lasts hours.
While not being as good, visually, as some patch videos, the 3.3.0 video remains my favourite. The direction is spot on, and having King Terenas narrate it was a stroke of genius.I knew Arthas' reply before he gave it but it still gave me a spine tingling burst of adrenaline when he delivered the final line. It was perfect."LET THEM COME! FROSTMOURNE HUNGERS!"I cheered Arthas. I still do, actually. =Dhttps://youtu.be/q3YE_kEKNaE
INB4 "The Lich King is dead and that World of Warcraft died with him." *rolleyes*
I still remember the pre-patch for Cataclysm while doing ICC as a shadow priest back when your Shadow Apparitions would proc at a ridiculously high rate (think it was like 70-80% per tick of SW:Pain) while you were moving. I used to go into Deathwhisper's room and DoT up EVERYTHING and then just run in circles and see how many other peoples' games I could crash when I suddenly started spawning dozens of moving shadow apparitions at a time. It was absolutely bonkers before they changed the apparitions to not destroy everyone's framerates.
Except for the release of Isle of giants and timeless isle, patch 5.1 was one of my favourite patches ever.
Kinda funny seeing how "Fly everywhere!" was a big feature, what with them doing everything they can to hold flying back now.
Cata best expansion, don't @ me.For real though, though I've played since BC, Cataclysm was the first time I took the game seriously. I like to judge an expansion based on how much fun I had playing it. In Cataclysm, I couldn't have had any more fun than that!
In my opinion, every xpac has had its ups and downs. The worst down for me was WOD, simply becasue it felt like the devs were SO focused on character tuning and balance that they were hotfixing something, or everything, every other day. I would run a raid one day, and be top 2-3 DPS and do everything right. I could run the exact same raid a day or two later, with the exact same guildies, and end up in the bottom of the dps chart. Everything else being equal, buffs, foods, runes, pots, etc... the only difference being a hotfix that the devs felt was "needed", and maybe a couple of gear upgrades, but nothing significant enough to flip the entire script. Then the next week they would hotfix it again, and revert some or all of the changes they made the week or day before.... Hotfixes for tuning got really old after about the first couple weeks of Hellfire Citadel. I completely understand a hotfix for a bug or glitch or something that needs to be nerfed or buffed on a boss... but changing the character tuning that often was burdensome... They have dialed back the hotfixes in Legion about 10,000% Other than those hotfixes, every other xpac, for me at least, has been a grind of finding what I enjoy doing in that specific xpac. In Lich King it was fishing and Kaluak rep, in in Cata, it was flying and getting to explore the rest of the old worlds that I never saw during the initial level grind. There is always something for everyone to do in every xpac.
