I cringe so hard seeing Tyrande now after that god awful kamikaze custscene from last xpac
Any TLDR ?
I have one problem with this, besides with how stupid this all is because of two major retconns. Everyone seems to forget what makes a Dragon into an Aspect and why it is not possible to "pass the mantle". An aspect is a being that has its powers given to them by the Titans. Therefore, the only one that can create an aspect and can make a dragon an aspect is the Titans. Her daughter cannot be an Aspect. Kalecgos is not an aspect yet Danuser seems to not give a *!@#. This is a third huge retconn a huge one and it shows that he has no respect for anything established. There were retconns before but the last one that was this big gave us sexy spacegoats and it was implemented and made an entire plot to which its whole story ended in the Legion expansion. This "Aspects" thing is not even established. In fact, Alexstrasza & co they are not aspects anymore. The entire plot of Nozdormu becoming evil plothole to be fixed requires for them to gained once again the blessings of the Titans. It requires the Pantheon to come to us and bless them. If the entire plot is that then the story should head towards locating the Patheon (and seeing Illidan, again) to get their blessing for all this to make sense. Otherwise is just a baseless and idiotic story. It is how they become what they are now. Surely Danuser did not forget this, right? RIIIIIGHT?They gave up their powers in Cataclysm. In fact, Alexstrasza's and her red dragonflight should no longer be capable of healing with their fire breath because they lost those damned powers. In fact, time travelling should no longer be possible. This is a massive plothole.
I am happy they did not shove Merithrra aside. Not sure that was the original intent or if it was because of player outcry; maybe Merithra gets unique models when the Aspects get empowered? I know most of the playerbase did not even notice her but I really enjoyed Merithra in BfA.Not particularly happy about Malf. I get the Persephone analogy but I'd have prefered for Tyrande to be the one who takes a break from the story. She has had much more screen time than Malfurion not just recently but throughout WoW and I'd love to see Malfurion take the lead for a couple of expansions. They could have explained it as Tyrande being the one who has to take Ysera's place because Tyrande was the one who killed her. And she is reaching Thrall, Sylvanas, Anduin levels of overexposure and all of them got retired for a while when that happened.
Reminds me of when they tried to kill Ragnaros off back in the Firelands and some rando generic-npc elemental started showing up in Legion.Kudos trying to make death impactful, but there's only one Firelord. This current arc makes me simultaneously roll my eyes at death being a case of swapping seats to come back, while being happy to see Ysera instead of Merithrra's undercooked ass.Sad to see Malfurion getting shoved into the sidelines again too. He barely gets to do anything, even less often does he get to do something with Tyrande - they're one of if not the only ingame relationships that doesn't come across as completely phoney or out of place like Thrall and Aggra. A shame it's so rarely utilized.
I'm happy to see that Night Elves will eventually get their home back. It sucks that Malfurion will get even less screentime. Even when Chris Metzen was around, his favorite character really only shined in the novels. And I think I found a few people who've never heard about those.
Absolutely nonsensical quest line. Ysera didn't sacrifice herself for Malfurion back in Legion, she was helping to look for him when Xavius was pretending to be Malf and she got ambushed. So Malf gets left behind in the Ardenweald, Ysera gets to come back and still not be the Aspect of the Green Dragonflight? This is awful, shelve it and do it over, Danuser.
Um when do these scenes happen in game? I have done every quest and never saw this in game scene. Cleared the appropriate area.
Malfurion is my 2nd least favorite character, before Sylvanas-she’s last. Why they keep these two in the game after removing Voljin and Varian is really annoying.Malfurion tells Tryande to shut up and step aside in Well if Eternity. Then we have to save him in Legion. The dialog in that quest was horrible to listen to.
Anyone else getting a possible Emerald Dream expac vibe? There was that one weird quote while leveling that said something like "the dream is what azeroth was...or will be" then there's this new tree, malf and Ysera, azeroth waking up means we would have reason to go into it to help her? Just seems like the "nature" side of WoW has been getting consistent lore updates since legion.
I can already see Malfurion's return from Ardenweald; Walking out some big gate, fist-bumping Vol'Jin as they return together as a new Ancient and a new Loa respectively. All to some epic entry music. Perhaps Blizz can license Eye of the Tiger :P
There are several reasons that this is ridiculous, but mostly because it goes back on the story that Danuser's team wrote in literally the last expansion. It seemed they wanted Ysera out of the way, giving her a nice post-death arc, finding her place, being bound to the realm, becoming a bridge between the Dream and Ardenweald and between Elune and the Winter Queen, it was nice. But now they are going 180 on that saying "nah, she can totally leave, she has stuff to do" and completely undermine the emotional impact and the cosmic identity of the Afterlife itself. Danuser has to take responsibility for the writing now, so maybe don't write a story line that "needs" someone who's dead and bound to a different realm after having a complete story arc. Aspects have been replaced before, there is nothing that Ysera needed to do that required her - she chases down some Primalists and tells Merithra that she's going to be Aspect... we knew that already and we did all of that without her so she really wasn't "needed".And if they wanted to bring Ysera back for some mysterious future purpose... why make such a big deal out of her being bound to Ardenweald a few patches ago? They said the storyline isn't about getting rid of Malfurion, but it sure seems that way - if you knew you wanted Ysera back, the "she's bound to Ardenweald and can't leave without great sacrifice" shtick serves no other purpose than to sacrifice Malfurion, lol. Nobody forced Danuser to bind Ysera to Ardenweald, she could have easily stayed dead and waited her turn to return to the Dream like nature spirits normally do (and then fulfilled her Dragonflight purpose there, as she's only entered the Dream and told Merithra that she's the Aspect now, so all of that could have been done without the "you have to stay" nonsense). And that gets us to the utter nonsense of swapping Night Fae prisoners lol. Ysera was bound to Ardenweald because the Winter Queen used her own essence to save her soul. What the Maw does Malfurion have to do with that? I swear they just saw Malfurion's Winter King customisation from Heathstone and liked the look so much they decided to force this nonsensical trade deal into the story. Danuser's new idea also completely ruins the Winter Queen's character. Her arc with Ysera was about reconciliation between sisters, about stopping to struggle on survival mode watching her realm wither away and instead taking a stance to save those that can yet be saved. So instead of draining the groves, she sacrifices her own Anima to keep Ysera alive, it was an important character arc for them both. But this Dragonflight quest makes her out to be a sadistic psychopath - she COULD let Ysera go at any moment by taking her Anima back (that Ysera clearly doesn't need anymore) but chooses to keep her a prisoner in Ardenweald. And when asked about letting Ysera leave, she says that yes she could, but why should she when she shared her precious anima with Ysera when there was an Anima drought, so it would be unfair to let her leave now even though there is no more Anima shortage and the realm is safe. Like, what the heck?Who thought this was a good idea, seriously? This is why Danuser rightly gets a lot of flak for his story direction, because even if it's not technically a ret-con, it ends up being totally nonsensical and self-sabotaging, going against previously established character beats. What in Yogg-Saron's pustular tentacles is the writing team doing?
