So, make it so difficult and convoluted that everyone just pays real money for tokens. Got it. Sound business plan.
The "just make it and put it on the AH" that someone is apparently happy is now no longer really happening is why I've basically stepped out of the goldmaking game. That, plus combining all AHs. Saved up enough for many expansions to come in Shadowlands, but I'm still mildly salty at the changes to everything. Making things unreasonably complicated. But whatever, I'm glad whoever's enjoying it is enjoying it. I'll just make my own consumables and sit on my stacks until the game changes again to be more reasonable.
On one hand, I'm glad that there are people actually trying to be help people adapt. It's kind of sad that it's not anyone official, considering the fans didn't implement it.
US players are blessed having such low token prices. There is no point of spending any real money on blizzard products at that price
DF profession system along with making commodities region wide killed my interest in gold making.I resigned to going double gathering on my main and doing that in between my usual end game activity.
I explicitly chose selling commodities because there's no big interest in crafted items on my dead server which gave me a renewed motivation in gold making. Finally the markets feel alive and low pop servers can make some money
The very existence of this post, informative and well intentioned though it may be, perfectly illustrates what an utter failure the DF crafting system has been. No one wants to have to read a treatise to learn how to do something in an online game. The convoluted and unforgiving nature of the system is either intentional (to what nefarious purpose I do not care to speculate) or otherwise incredibly shortsighted.Blizzard claimed that they’re going to use the time and resources they freed up but not having to create new borrowed powers for DF to make a better game. So far they have completed failed to deliver.
hot take: if you don't understand the crafting system then it's just not for you, pay a crafter and stop worrying about it. Respect the time and effort the crafter put in to have those BIS crafting stats that you apparently don't even understand. If you want an ultra-max BIS item it's gonna cost you time or money, one way or another. As it should!I disagree with the idea that casual players can't make gold. Everything in DF is setup so quests, world drops, reputations and professions are your money makers. Your average M+ spammer or raid logger might feel poor, but that's not a casual player, That's a highly efficient one who skipped all the gold making activities in favor of rushing to endgame and living there.
I hate what professions have become
Simply put, crafting professions and work orders are too much of a time investment for the average or casual player to benefit. Even most commodity items are selling on the regional auction house for less than the value of the mats required to make them, so you could easily craft at a loss. The only standing public crafting orders are ones that are literally impossible for anyone to fill at this point. The whole system is a disaster for everyone but the top 1%.
While I like the specialization system to a certain extent - I do miss the 'making stuff and dumping it on the AH' aspect of the game as a poster put it. I enjoyed spending time restocking goods, putting them on the AH and then going about my business. Now, it feels like I have to spam trade chat to get my crafts sold and time-wise this is not a fun way for me to spend my sub. I did however, spec into selling BoPs and would love to be able to get a reset (make it cost mettle?) so I can spec into something that doesn't require me to sit around in Valdrakken. The (public) work order system may still work but needs some refinement :)Just how I feel about it.
Having first lariat on the server turned into nightmare of being online all day explaining why material quality matters and why minimum quality should be set to 4.
Hope the website idea fails. I really low the current work order system where customers connect with the crafters and get to know each other instead of soulless click and buy auction house style. Since becoming master tailor in my server I have stopped interacting with ah at all because im having so much fun talking to and interacting with all the customers hearing thank you makes my day. You dont hear that in ah or through that website for sure.
I really love the new profession system. The Knowledge Trees make crafting so much fun, the constant progression and anticipation and rewards. I just hope they'll extend it to cooking/fishing as well. MMOs should be about progression and achievements. I'm one of the usually silent majority who really enjoy the system.
I love it how you guys can actually use the crafting system, im jelly, greetings from low population server
