Welcome to Wowhead's new and improved front page! We've kept the feel of the front page with news articles and Today in Broken Isles, but moved a few things around to better highlight what players find important.
In May 2014, we revamped Wowhead's front page to better highlight our PTR database updates, new features, and guide sections. Thanks to that revamp, we've been able to share Wowhead features with a larger audience than ever before.
With the non-stop pace of PTRs and weekly in-game events in Legion, we've found ourselves evaluating Wowhead's front page again and thinking about how we could better present important information to our users. After
previewing the improvements
several weeks ago, we incorporated user feedback into the design and it's finally live!
Here's what we aim to cover with the front page improvements:
Easier News Navigation:
In Legion, Blizzard increased the pace of PTRs and in-game events, while the Wowhead team expanded the news team for more frequent coverage. With only six articles highlighted on the front page, news tends to fall off faster than before. To make news easier to navigate, we're creating more compact and polished previews and expanding the amount of articles on the front page. We've also added a "Latest News" section to the top right of the front page so you can browse the headlines easily.
Easier News Filtering:
We know some people love PTR news, while other players only care about live events. We've added colorful labels to the top left of every article so you can easily see the news tags and decide if it pertains to your interest or not.
Better Visibility for Today in Broken Isles:
Today in Broken Isles highlights everything to do in WoW on a particular day. It's currently a bit low on the page, so we're moving it up to where the current featurebox images are. The featurebox images are being removed because they mainly link to content already covered Today in Broken Isles, which feels redundant. We've also shifted some details around so there's less blank space, especially if ads are enabled.
More Links to Relevant Content:
In Today in Broken Isles, you'll now see a section for 7.2.5 PTR updates, Current Content, and Archaeology. By adding sections to Today in Broken Isles instead of relying on featureboxes, we can link more articles on the top of the front page--plus better organization.
Easier-to-find Blue Posts:
Our reblogs of important Blizzard posts are quite popular, but many players do not know about the
Blue Tracker
, which powers all of our hotfix and Blizzard Roundup posts. We're now highlighting it a bit better by listing top news from the tracker at the top left of the page. If you want to skip Wowhead's PTR, merchandise, or community posts and just navigate to the Blizzard responses, it should be more convenient to do so.
