The announcement stream for Diablo 4 Season 1 is almost upon us! On July 6, Diablo 4's development team will hopefully tell us everything we need to know about the game's inaugural season - and here's our wishlist for what we hope makes the cut!
Meaningful Balance Changes
Just recently,
Patch 1.0.3
brought the first wave of meaningful Diablo 4 class changes. However, the majority of adjustments made with Diablo's first big patch has left a lot of class issues unresolved like Barbarians depending on Shout skills to get going in any capacity or Sorcerers relying on all four Defensive skills to have at least somewhat of a chance to survive in higher-tier Nightmare dungeons.
Diablo 4 Patch 1.0.3 Patch Notes
Feature-Rich Seasonal Content
Compared to what we've ever seen in Diablo 3, the bar for what is considered a "fun and engaging amount" of seasonal content is a lot higher nowadays. Over the last few years, other ARPGs have shown what players should expect from a Diablo 4 season based on the development team's "live service" approach:
Challenging endgame content, new items, new pinnacle boss fights, new lore, and, most importantly, new ways to interact with the base game like extensive item crafting or targeted loot farming. Should we expect every single aspect we just mentioned? Of course not - but based on the heavy emphasis stated by the development regarding Diablo 4 being a "live service game "makes us hopeful to see a Season 1 announcement chock-full of new content.
Stash Tabs, Stash Tabs, Stash Tabs
With a total of 4 tabs and 200 item slots available, Diablo 4's current stash space is just too small. Players not only can but totally want to play multiple builds with one character - but for that, they need stash space for their different gear loadouts.
And not only that: The fact that both Consumables and Aspects also take away inventory space as well (why are extracted Aspects items after all?) turns the addition of stash tabs - whether it might be a paid service or not - into one of the most pressing issues to solve in Diablo 4 right now.
Inventory and Stash Text Search
It is very clear that Diablo 4 has been developed for both PC and console play. However, the complete lack of text search functionalities in every single part of the interface should unsettle even the average Diablo consolero. Why do we need to hover over every single item, Nightmare Sigil, Aspect, or Paragon Glyph to find out what it is or does? Let us search and filter things, Blizzard!
Quest Completion Tracker
As the company developing World of Warcraft, the lack of features showing quest completion is almost criminal. The current Journal implementation works when it comes to tracking current quest progress but doesn't feature any functionality regarding completed quests.
You don't have to be a completionist to appreciate an interface that will show all completed side quests of a region - especially if we all need to re-do our Renown tiers with every single season.
Cool Seasonal Cosmetics
The community has voiced concerns regarding the overall visual appeal of Diablo 4's current shop cosmetics. Based on statements made by the development team, the seasonal Battle Pass will include two full cosmetic armor sets per class - so we hope to see several high-quality and flavorful shop sets that are truly worth to unlock during Battle Pass progression!
Mount System Improvements
We want to highlight that the addition of mounts in Diablo 4 was a great idea! With the focus on overworld content like Helltides and Tree of Whispers tasks, having a mount tremendously helps speeding up character progression in a flavorful way. However, riding around and constantly getting blocked by monsters, barricades, or even plants is not a fun gameplay experience. Also, Dismount abilities don't feel very engaging and rewarding because their cooldown requirements are way too high while dealing meaningless amounts of damage.
Loot Filters
As of right now, Diablo 4 doesn't have a "too much items on the ground" problem yet. But even in the current state, loot filters in Diablo 4 would do wonders in terms of gameplay fluidity and immersion. Addons are wildly popular and accepted in other Blizzard titles, so loot filters aren't even outside the realm of normal for a title - and an ARPG with a focus on loot benefits greatly from not seeing a thousand white or gray items in between every Unique.
