The Titans have left many constructs around Azeroth - including a few surprises. The Earthen discover one particularly shocking Titan "safeguard" during the War Within max-level campaign.
Warning: War Within Spoilers Ahead
Titan Safeguard
As players will be learning on the beta, the Earthen of Khaz Algar are divided into two major groups - the Oathsworn and the Unbound - who are at first at odds with each other. The Oathsworn still follow the edicts of the Titans, while the Unbound consider themselves free from their oaths. With our help, we unite the two groups in the face of the conflict ahead - they agree to put aside their differences in order to face the threat of Xal'atath.
In a cinematic that is not yet available in-game, to show their commitment to the war ahead, the Earthen decide to smash the titan console to officially break the edits. Unfortunately, this triggers a safeguard, put in place by the Titans in case the Earthen decide to ever break their oaths...
To everyone's horror, a Colossal Titan Construct emerges from the sea to destroy the Earthen, and we have to work together to stop the thing before it commits genocide.
This isn't the first time a Titan safeguard has threatened mortal lives. Back during
Wrath of the Lich King
, the constellar Algalon the Observer infamously attempted to wipe out all life on Azeroth - which he had been tasked to do by the Titans should his analysis of the planet reveal systemic corruption. We managed to stop him, but it was still an early hint that the Titans have their own - and not necessarily our - interests in mind.
