Battle for Azeroth Launch Survival Guide
The next World of Warcraft Expansion, Battle for Azeroth, will be having its
global launch
on
August 13th at 10:00 PM UTC time
. For the first time, servers in every region will go live at the same time allowing players to experience the expansion at the same time! Players will be waiting for the first quest
Un monde à l’agonie
/
Un monde à l’agonie
to get their
Heart of Azeroth
and begin their journey into Kul Tiras and Zandalar.
Battle for Azeroth is now live on ALL regions!!
While leveling, players will be able to turn on War Mode to access PvP Talents while leveling and a 10% experience boost. In addition, completing quests in each zone will award reputation for
new reputations
which are faction-specific. Completing certain quests while leveling up will award the player with
Azerite Armor
and having the
Cœur d’Azeroth
will allow you to unlock powerful
Azerite Traits
. More powerful versions of the
Azerite Armor
will be available at max level.
At max level, players will be able to run through 10
new dungeons
, one of which is locked behind a reputation attunement.
World Quests
make a return in Battle for Azeroth which once again provide similar rewards: Gold, Artifact Power,
Ressources de guerre
, Reputation, Gear and more! Many more features are available at 120 including a faction-specific
War Campaign
which allows you to visit the other continent, and
Island Expeditions
.

The expansion is launching soon and this section covers any last minute preparations before the expansion.
The
War of the Thorns
Darkshore event will no longer be available. This means that the transmog rewards and the two mounts
Rênes fumantes d’hippogriffe de Teldrassil
and
Rênes de chauve-souris pestiférée de Fossoyeuse
cannot be acquired.
The follow up quest to the War of the Thorns is the
Battle for Lordaeron
.
This quest
is required
to progress in the Battle for Azeroth expansion and you can complete it
NOW
, before the expansion launch, by completing the Darkshore quest lines.
After Battle for Azeroth launches, this quest will automatically be given to all players as the Darkshore quests, are no longer available.
Clear out your Quest Log and Inventory, and stockpile any Consumbles or Items that will help you level. We have recommendations in our
Leveling Guide
.
Choose your talents, gear and legendaries for leveling. If you can find a group to level with it's generally faster!
If you've completed the
Battle for Lordaeron
, the first quest of the expansion will be
Un monde à l’agonie
/
Un monde à l’agonie
, which turns in to Magni at
Magni's Encampment
(42.22, 44.27) in
Silithus
.
It appears that this quest can be pushed into your quest log from anywhere, which means that you may want to park your character at Magni's Encampment while waiting for the expansion to launch.
Disclaimer: This has not been confirmed by Blizzard and this is based off some tests on the Beta realms. The quest is auto pushed to your quest log when you log in at any location. It is also pushed to your quest log when you relog. If, for whatever reason, the quest is not pushed to your quest log after a relog and the expansion has launched, you will have to head to Stormwind City / Orgrimmar where you will be given the quest.
Magni's Encampment is not a sanctuary -- War Mode players will be able to be attacked there. We would recommend turning off War Mode until you return to your capital city.
Expect the log in servers to be slow and there to be server queues. Log on early and keep your account logged in.
The Legion expansion launch was rolled out to characters at different points in time, starting
early
. If Blizzard decides to do something similar, you'll know when the expansion launches when your experience bar reappears. If you want to be safe, make sure you're around before the launch!
Expect server lag and problems -- it's the first global launch and if there aren't issues then you'll be pleasantly surprised!
Leveling to 120
After the first set of quests at Magni's Encampment, the Horde and Alliance will separate into their own continents. Once you enter Kul Tiras and Zandalar, it will be relatively safe to turn on War Mode even if you don't plan on PvPing.
Turning on War Mode will increase all the experience you gain by 10%.
It will also give you access to new PvP Talents, which will empower your character with more damage, utility or healing causing you to level faster!
It is possible that you may encounter a stray member of the other faction who has completed their first outpost, but the majority of players will be sticking to their own continent.
Some time after launch, players will have started the War Campaign and you'll start to see more members of the opposing faction on your continent. At this point, you may want to disable War Mode if you do not wish to PvP. For more information, check out our
War Mode Guide
.
We have launched our
Battle for Azeroth
Leveling Class Guides. These guides recommend which talents, PvP Talents and Legiondaries to level with.
Legiondaries can only be used up until you hit 116, at which point their bonus effects will be disabled.
PvP Talents can only be used if War Mode is turned on.

and
Azerite Trait

These pieces of Azerite Armor will be replaced quickly at level 120, so feel free to pick more leveling focused Traits.

The quest to unlock World Quests will be offered after you have achieved Level 120 and you have set up all the Footholds in the
Alliance War Campaign
or
Horde War Campaign
. For more information, check out our
Battle for Azeroth World Quests Overview
.
Set up all three of your footholds, reach level 120 and reach Friendly with all 3 of your faction's reputations to unlock World Quests and upgrade your
Sifflet de maître de vol
to work in Kul Tiras and Zandalar.
World Quests offer Reputation and varying rewards of Gold, AP, Item Level Appropriate Gear, Bonus Reputation, War Resources, Profession Materials, Battle Pet Materials and more.
Emissaries make a return in Battle for Azeroth and will provide a bonus piece of Gear, AP, Gold or War Resources while also providing a large amount of bonus reputation.
New to Battle for Azeroth are Reputation contracts. These contracts provide a bonus of 10 reputation to the contracted faction whenever a World Quest in Kul Tiras or Zandalar is completed.
Contracts are crafted by Scribes.
Contracts persist through death and have no duration.
The only factions that don't have a contract are the War Campaign factions:
The Honorbound
and
7th Legion
.
After unlocking World Quests, we recommend picking up a contract for whichever reputation you want, before starting to complete your World Quests.
Need help choosing a reputation? Check out our Faction Guides and the faction's reputation rewards on our
Reputation Overview
.
It's important to note that the
Champions of Azeroth
has a bonus reward for leveling up your reputation. When you attain Friendly, Honored, etc., Magni will offer you a new quest which increases the item level of your
Cœur d’Azeroth
by +15 Item Levels.
The War Campaign starts right when you get to Kul Tiras or Zandalar. You'll receive a call to head to your War Campaign Leader on the docks. We don't recommend doing this right away, and saving it for level 119 or 120.
The War Campaign is locked behind
Honorbound Reputation
for Horde and
7th Legion Reputation
for Alliance

When you initially travel to the enemy's continent, you will only have the Flight Points of your Footholds but can acquire a few others by default. However, as you start gaining reputation with the
7e Légion
or
Brigade de l’Honneur
, you can set up Outposts on the enemy's continent for more Flight Points by purchasing Scouting Reports with
Ressources de guerre
. Unlocking these Outposts are
account-wide
, though on each character, you'll have to travel to the Outpost to acquire the Flight Point.
In order to start unlocking Outposts, you must first purchase a Scouting Report from the
7e Légion
or
Brigade de l’Honneur
Quartermaster -- these items require Honored or Revered reputation with the related faction and cost 50 or 100
Ressources de guerre
respectively.
After, you must complete the Scouting Mission on the
Mission Table
.
Then, get the quest and head to the location of the outpost to set it up!

Island Expeditions are special 3-player scenarios introduced in Battle For Azeroth. The goal of an Island Expedition is simple, to obtain Azerite found on an uncharted Island. The exact method of doing so however is up to the players. The Islands you will sail to are filled with enemies native to the Island, and enemies not-so native to the Island. Every enemy you kill, every chest you loot, every special event you complete all will award Azerite that is loaded up on your ship. With these expeditions being all about gaining Azerite, they are designed to be the most efficient method of obtaining Azerite for your
Cœur d’Azeroth
.
Every week, 3 different Islands will be available for you to scout and explore.
There are three difficulties of Island Expeditions: Normal, Heroic and Mythic. Winning the Island Expedition will reward you with Azerite.
Gathering 40k Azerite during the week in Island Expeditions will reward you with a whopping 2,500 Azerite from turning in

Various Reputation Mounts for hitting Exalted.
More mounts will be available later, when Uldir and Warfronts open.
Coming Soon
We don't know exactly when World Bosses will become available, but using the schedule of Legion, it is likely that the World Bosses will become available on
September 4th
. Similar to Legion, one World Boss will be available every week which awards Item Level 355 gear.
Three of the World Bosses are on Kul Tiras
Assemblage de grêlons
,
Azuréthos
and
Porteguerre Yenajz
Three of the World Bosses are on Zandalar
T'zane
,
Ji'arak
and
Ji'arak
There is one more World Boss in Battle for Azeroth which is special as it is only available to one faction at a time. This World Boss drops item level 370 loot and is only available to the faction that controls the Arathi Highlands zone. Control over the zone constantly flips through the Warfronts feature described below.
Alliance get to kill
Héraut du malheur
when they control Arathi
Horde get to kill
Le Rugissement du Lion
when they control Arathi
The Warfronts feature will open at a later date:
Alliance players will be the first faction to have access to the World Boss,
Héraut du malheur
for item level 370 loot.
Alliance will also have access to 6
Arathi Quests
which award
Ressources de guerre
, Azerite and
Cache d’équipement des fronts de guerre
which awards an Item Level 340 piece of gear.
Horde players will be the first faction to
provide contributions
for bonus AP and reputation.
Once Contributions are complete, Horde will be able to participate in the
Arathi Warfront
which awards Item Level 340 loot with a one time quest for 370 loot.
Once Horde has finished contributions and a period of time has passed, the Horde will now control Arathi and the Alliance will now start the Contributions phase.
The faction that controls Stromgarde will have easy access to Arathi Highlands through a portal system. This faction will also be offered a series of 6 quests, which award a large amount of
Ressources de guerre
, Artifact Power and
Cache d’équipement des fronts de guerre
. However, the other faction can still visit Arathi Highlands by flying there, but will automatically be flagged for PvP when in the zone.
Players will also be able to farm rares in the zone for pieces of gear, mounts and toys.

In Battle for Azeroth, Mythic+ will be divided into Seasons, with a 4th Affix that changes every season. Season 1 of Mythic+ will open on
September 4th
with the
Infesté
affix.
What is Infested?
Some mobs in each dungeon will be infested with a
Symbiote de G’huun
. They will appear larger, have a grey aura coming off of them and have the
Symbiote de G’huun
buff. Any other mob within
8 yards
will have
Sang régénérateur
applied to them causing them to heal for 10% of their max health every 3 seconds.
When the Infested mob dies, it will release two
Rejeton de G'huun
which will run towards the nearest non-boss NPC. Once it reaches its target, it will cast
Infestation
, an
uninterruptable
1 second cast. If it successfully casts
Infestation
, it will infest the target with
Symbiote de G’huun
, starting the cycle again.
The
Infesté
seems to promote Crowd Control spells. Pulling a large group with an Infested mob will result in the Infested mob and the rest being healed. Instead, its usually better to CC the Infested mob, deal with the remainder of the pack and the finish off the Infested mob last.
Here are some changes to Mythic+ in Battle for Azeroth:
Tyrannique
and
Fortifié
will be present on every keystone, as they are now Level 2 affixes.
Infesté
will be present on every Keystone Level 10 and above.
You are now able to use a
Bonus Roll
at the end of Mythic+ runs.
You will not be able to farm Azerite Armor from Mythic+, however it can drop from the Weekly Challenger's Chest.
The Weekly Challenger's Chest can now contain
up to 3
items. The number of items is random.
Gear Swaps are not allowed inside an Active Mythic+ dungeon.
Some affixes have been changed
Blessure nécrotique
has been reduced from 3% per stack to 2% per stack.
Enrager
can be removed using an enrage removal such as
Apaiser
from Druids or
from Hunters.
Blessures graves
was nerfed from 2% per stack to 1.3% per stack.
Explosif
orbs are now Red instead of Green and named "Explosive" instead of "Fel Explosive"
With the launch of BFA PvP Season 1 on
September 4th
, Conquests Points will be returning as a form of currency. Find out more in our
Battle for Azeroth PvP Overview
.
One of the biggest complaints from the Legion changes to PvP was about the RNG when receiving loot. In order to fix that, Blizzard is re-introducing the Conquest Points, which will be a deterministic method to receive PvP-oriented gear. Every week you will be requested to earn a certain amount of Conquest Points and, when doing so, you will receive a piece of gear. When you're finished with a set, you can move on to acquiring a higher tier of armor. Blizzard also noted that there will be ways to skip ahead, if you're a Gladiator-type player, to shoot for the top gear but also there will be a catch-up mechanism to allow returning players to catch-up.
Conquest Points will be obtained by doing PvP activities similar to how it was gained in the past, but also from new sources:
Rated Arenas
Rated Battlegrounds
Unrated Battlegrounds (Light Cap)
Epic Battlegrounds (Weekly Quest)
World PvP activities
Obtaining loot in Battle for Azeroth is similar to how Conquest vendors worked back in the day. There are three ways to get loot while doing PvP:
At the end of a match, you will have a chance to acquire an item just like did at the end of a Mythic+ run, with the quality of the item being proportional to your rating.
When you win a Rated PvP match or when you complete your first RBG win of the day, you will earn Conquest. Once you earn enough Conquest, you will unlock a piece of gear at certain breakpoints. It starts off at an LFR-level quality item and it scales up as you progress. If you invest enough time, you will be guaranteed to unlock the full set of gear.
When you fill up a Conquest bar for the week, you will unlock a new weekly reward from a chest near the Dueler's Guild, which is based on the highest bracket you had won at least 1 game in.
Battle for Azeroth's first raid, Uldir, will be launching on
September 4th
with Normal and Heroic modes. Mythic mode will unlock the week after as will the first wing of LFR.
LFR Uldir will drop
Item Level 340
.
Normal Uldir will drop
Item Level 355
.
Heroic Uldir will drop
Item Level 370
.
Mythic Uldir will drop
Item Level 385
.
