Blizzard has always been pretty famous for doing insane April Fools almost every single year. On this post, we use our weekly nostalgia column format and go through some of the most famous or controversial April Fools Blizzard has done over the years.
Interested in this year's jokes? Check out Blizzard's
patch notes and dance battle
and Wowhead's
Tattoo Customization and Allied Race Pepes
.
Blizzard has, on their website, an archive with almost every single April Fools they've done since their inception. If you want to laugh a bit, just take a look over at their

Blizzard introduced the
Frostdoge Clan
, a community of peaceful descendants of the
Frostwolforcs
. They've been secretly living in the snowy expanses of
Frostfeuergrat
. Frostdoge Clan members transcended from their ferocious ways, achieving true enlightenment thanks to mysterious rocks,
Hundesteinbrocken
.
Following the teachings of the great spirit of the Doge, the Frostdoge Clan has long worked to avoid joining the ranks of the Iron Horde. After being forced to reveal themselves to Khadgar, they still have a hard time trusting strangers, so you need to appease them with lots and lots of
Hundesteinbrocken
.
Reaching Exalted with the Frostdoge Clan unlocks the
wow, %n, such title
title.

On this day, we had a special edition of
Artcraft: Remaking the Female Draenei
!
Chris Robinson
, senior art direction for WoW, went into detail.
This new Draenei model is based to their connection to the Lost One race. Visually speaking, the old Draenei models had no connection to their wretched brethren, so the art team wanted that connection with them to be obvious. The original female Draenei model was not really popular among players, so it was a warm change for every female Draenei player out there.

Few things can be more fun than exploring Azeroth's dungeons with friends, however, some of its challenges can be quite daunting. Wouldn't it be nice to have a friend ready to give you tips?
This is why Blizzard developed and released, on this day,
Crabby, The Dungeon Helper
! This ethereal crustacean uses a complex system of heuristics to analyse every situation and always come with good advice - Crabby always knows what's up.
His many useful tips will appear on the bottom right of your screen, where he awaits, patiently, for you to inquire his assistance. You can choose to follow his advice or not, but we're sure his feelings won't be hurt if you choose not to do it.
Blizzard did remove the ability to disable him for now, just in case.
Learn how to enable Crabby on the Blizzard website!

Gear is one of the most pivotal parts of World of Warcraft gameplay. To help players know exactly where they stand in comparison to their peers, Blizzard released a new tool: the
Equipment Potency EquivalencE Number
!
With this system, it's easier than ever to compare yourself to other players. With every new piece of equipment looted, boss kill, arena win, among other statistics, your number will grow. This number is displayed on both your character sheet and armory, as well as displayed as a bar above your character ingame.
With every new tier of the Equipment Potency EquivalencE Number, you earn new rewards, such as a permanent bonus to Need rolls, the ability to cut to the front of the line on the Group Finder, a larger ignore list, and a much shorter
Deserteur
debuff. With higher and higher numbers, the world itself is tailored to your elite status: Those lesser players with low numbers will no longer pester you, and your friends list will become more and more manageable. Any negative repercussions of these changes will be offset by the satisfaction you’ll receive knowing your equipment is significantly more impressive than average!

The act of self-expression through dancing has long been an integral part of WoW's social interactions. This has been taken to a whole new level with the new
Dancing Battle System
, a new system combining the chaos of Arena competition with the dynamism of coordinated dance animations. Dance Battles offer a whole new kind of crew-versus-crew challenge.
Deep inside the
Festung der Stürme
,
Kael'thas Sonnenwanderer
is back, back, back, back again! This time, the Lord of the Blood Elves has issued a challenge far and wide through Azeroth - to try and find out the best dance crew on all of the worlds! With handpicked judges from Area 52, and Tempest Keep being retrofitted into a dancing fortress, the ship has become the perfect stage for a dance-off.
Using an interface similar to vehicle UI in WotLK, you can pick up your dance outfit and moves to outdance your opponent!

The
Bard Hero Class
was revealed on this day! Blizzard has answered to the cries of the community for a class that inspires people via the magic of song.
The deeds of every great hero inspire countless sounds of triumph, virtue, and epic adventures. However, the creators of said melodies are seldom remembered. After ages spent singing the heroic exploits of others, the bards of Azeroth finally stepped into the spotlight on their own terms, and vanquish evil with the power of ROCK!!!!
The Bard Class uses a new resource system called
Groove
, and require a new guitar-based keyboard, that was shipping to Bard players with the physical pack of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. The more Groove used for spells, the more rhythm and effectiveness your attacks will have. Check out this sweet Blood Elf groove below:

Every engineer knows that in order to achieve true greatness, it's imperative to keep a clear mind and protect their secrets from those willing to steal or plagiarize the designs of a hard-working genius.
By focusing the powers of the
Sternrubin
, the chemical properties of Troll Tears, and the powerful mental shielding properties from Tinfoil, the all new
Tinfoil Hat
was created on this day!
The Tinfoil Hat has the powerful properties of hiding your character from the Armory, in-game inspection, and anyone invading your privacy!
Notice we can't even link it here on Wowhead, for it's shielding properties are THAT powerful
!
However, this amazing invention has its drawbacks: You do see the truth with it equipped. And resisting the urge to share the truth with anyone else is a hard one, indeed...
Check out the secret recipe for the Tinfoil Hat on the Blizzard website!

A new race was announced on this day:
Irrwisch
s!
Wisps were pivotal on defeating
Archimonde
in
Hyjalgipfel
: By overpowering him at the steps of Mount Hyjal, Wisps have saved us from certain annihilation by the hands of the Burning Legion. Now, with the echoes of their Burning Crusade rising again, the Alliance has again sounded the
Horn des Cenarius
, evoking the ancient guardians of nature back into the fight.
A part of the primal energy used to destroy the Eredar Warlord still resides within the Wisps. Wisps are able to unleash all that primal energy in one single massive detonation, sure to defeat all their foes. This comes with an overbearing price, though: Once a Wisp detonates, they're beyond recovery. But that's okay, though. They're glad to sacrifice themselves for a good cause.
Wisp Racials are:
Detonate
: Destroys the Wisp, dispelling all beneficial magic effects from enemies and draining mana in an area around the wisp. Using this ability will delete the Wisp, returning you to the character selection screen.
Gatherer
: The Wisp's innate connection to nature makes it gather more natural resources. Skill in Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning increased by 5.
Treeform
: Turns the Wisp into a tree for 30 seconds. During this time, Spirit is increased by 300. However, the Wisp's chance to dodge or parry axes is reduced by 50%.
