In this preview of Stormsong Valley, we're highlighting interesting quests related to the presence of the Old Gods. If you are interested in a spoiler-free zone preview of the environment, check out our
Early Look at Stormsong Valley
post.
Story spoilers in the post.
Highlights
Previously in the Battle for Azeroth alpha, we've learned that
Zul has teamed up with Azshara
as part of the plan to overthrow the Zandalari Empire. We've also learned that
Lady Ashvane is in league with Azshara
, leading to the attack on Boralus.
Now in Stormsong Valley we've learned that House Stormsong has allied with Queen Azshara, falling prey to the maddening whispers of the sea.
You can watch all the quests described in this article in our playthrough video:
Stormsong Unrest
House Stormsong has long blessed the Kul Tiran navy and Stormsong Valley served as the breadbasket for the empire. However ominous signs are present early on as we visit their monastery in Boralus only to find all the tidesages hostile to us...and their buildings excessively decorated with tentacles.
In
Haus Sturmsang
we learn that House Stormsong has not been properly protecting their people. Matters quickly escalate when we head to Mariner's Strand and discover the laborers exhausted and Brother Addington murdered. We examine the area, finding proclamations from Lord Stormsong:
Lord Stormsong: No more will we work our fields and build our ships for the haughty Boralus elite to give nothing in return. We must work as one and muster our strength. Kul Tiras will forever belong to its people! Our mighty tidesages shall guide us all to victory with the very power of the sea itself!
We also learn in
Stürmische Gezeiten
that there are shredder golems threatening the workers and the tidesages have tinkered with their wiring to make them even more menacing. This was likely responsible for the murder of Addington. Along the way, we free Samuel Williams, a ship builder, who reveals in
Gebunden und unterdrückt
that the tidesages showed up, chained them to anchors, and forced them to build ships non-stop.
While conducting a ritual, Brother Pike senses Lord Stormsong nearby and decides to break his oaths and confront him. Stormsong then talks about the great power below and summons a corrupted sea creature.
Stormsong: The tides shift, brother. If you do not stand with me, then you are lost.
Brother Pike: It is you who are lost!
Stormsong: You were always too weak to serve by my side, languishing in that village like a fool.
Brother Pike: We swore to protect that village. To protect our people! Have you forgotten our oaths!
Stormsong: Can you not feel the great power deep below? By its will we shall be whole once more!
Stormsong escapes and in
Stimmen in der Tiefe
Brother Pike further investigates the "horrible darkness" he senses:
The others forged ahead to Fogtide Assembly. I've no doubt they will not receive a warm welcome. We are to meet them there. However, there is something I must do first. Despite my Lord's retreat I still feel a terrible darkness nearby; I wish to listen to the tides for answers. I would appreciate your joining me in case more danger strays in our path.
There is a bridge nearby that has clear sight of the Shrine of the Storm. The omen comes from there.
Long has my order listened to the sea to guide our ships and our people. Gentle whispers, imperceptible to most.
Over time the whispers..changed. At times they were demanding, even violent.
We attempted to guard ourselves against them, to resist them, but I fear we may have failed.
Here we have a fade-to-black placeholder cinematic, with the description "A ship enters the dungeon. Pike expresses grave concern as to why a ship bearing villagers would enter his order's sanctum.
Sagehold
In
Hinter dem Schleier
we learn the implications of this cinematic--the tidesages are sacrificing the souls inside the Shrine using forbidden magic. We fight back at Tidecross, an area infested with shadow magic, tentacles, and Tidesages uttering lines like "I drink in the infinite void" and "My soul for the ancient one." As we complete quests here, we can pick up ominous-sounding buffs like
Geflüster aus der Tiefe
. We end up halting the rituals and destroying the cursed ship, the Abyssal Melody, in
Die Rache des Sturms
.
Samuel Williams, the ship-builder we rescued, is captured by the Tidesages and used for one of their dark rituals. We must rescue him in the ominously-named quest
Aus dem Schlund des Wahnsinns
. As we rush into the ship to save him, we can hear the Abyssal Corruptors murmuring incantations in the Shath'Yar, the language of the Old Gods.
Brother Halsey: It is too soon. He has not yet drowned in the master's glory!
We do save Samuel but he's still greatly weakened and susceptible to the whispers, muttering phrases like "Beneath the tides...waiting...calling" and "Four eyes..the end..she rises!" As Brother Pike watches over him, we rally the nearby villagers in
Der Sturm erwacht
, the village targeted by Lord Stormsong, to band together. We also try to help Samuel in
Böse Absichten
:
Sails... in the fog... A light below... in the darkness. Water rising... given form... the pain... AHHHH, THE PAIN! Make it stop. Make it stop. Make the pain stop!
As we rally the citizens of Sagehold, we also defeat the shadowy figures which have taken over the city. This area is also home to many books named after the Old Gods, which provide buffs when clicked on -
Unterwasserkorbflechten: Eine Monografie
,
Legenden der verbotenen Flut
,
Der Alte Gott und das Meer
.
We also find a Scuba Pepe.
As we explore Sagehold, we meet Tideguard Victoria, a wounded soldier who wants to help us reach Shrine of the Storms in
Schwurgebunden
:
I took oaths, damn it. We all did. When Lord Stormsong sent the first orders... well, you saw what happened. What matters is that our oaths are to our people, not Lord "Sells His Soul". You won't find him here - he's deep in the Shrine by now, and no outsider will make it across the channel alive... Not without a Tideguard to open the way. <Victoria locks eyes with you.> The Rod of Tides is the key to the front door, and it's kept here. Retrieve it and I can get you to Stormsong.
We find a vision of Stormsong and Wavespeaker Reid:
Image of Lord Stormsong: Our destiny is nearly upon us. They must not enter the Shrine of the Storm.
Wavespeaker Reid: I was merely toying with them, my lord. It shall be done!
Reaching Shrine of the Storm
Victoria escorts us to the Shrine of the Storm, sacrificing herself so we can escape to the water bridge in
Auge des Sturms
.
Taelia: Was Lord Stormsong always this cruel?
Tideguard Victoria: Not at all. He was so kind before the whispers took him.
Tideguard Victoria: It was his father who guided us to this valley, many years ago.
Lord Stormsong: And it is I who will deliver us to our glorious future beneath the tides.
Lord Stormsong: You think you stand in my way, but Kul Tiras' fate was sealed long ago.
Lord Stormsong has closed all routes to the Shrine of the Storms, but we can reopen the Path of Storms using the Rod of Tides in
Über diese Brücke müsst Ihr gehen
. Once we can cross the bridge, we must collect the spirits of the depraved cultists in
Verloren und vergessen
and use their power to open the final door to the Shrine. We must also disable the Tidemother's Wrath and Pride in
Besiegeltes Schicksal
--these are two wards gifted from the sea which Lord Stormsong turned against us.
When we reach the top of Tempest's Edge, we blast the doors open in
Der letzte Aufstieg
, and not a minute too late, as Samuel has begun shouting in Shath'Yar - "TIDES OF BLOOD! RISE! RISE!" We confront Lord Stormsong in
Das Ende des Sturms
but things go horribly wrong. After a hidden cutscene, we return to find Samuel transformed into the elite Faceless One
Azshj'thul der Ertrunkene
.
Azshj'thul the Drowned: The sunken realm welcomes your yawning souls.
No light. No escape. The forgotten king returns.
My fall is but a beat in the heart of the infinite abyss.
Pride of Azshara
We then alert Commander Kellam in
Wogende Gezeiten
who notes:
This stone pulses with the power of Azshara herself! Take it to the forces at the fort proper. They will know what to do.
We reach Fort Daelin and help the citizens fight back against the spellcasting naga. All seems to be going well until
Aus den Tiefen
--where we face off against the
Azsharas Stolz
.
Utigarde noted in the comments that both the Tidemother and Azshara appear to have both Wrath and Pride artifacts. Are they one and the same, or polar opposites?
Broadcast Text
The story with Queen Azshara and Stormsong appears to continue in the dungeon Shrine of the Storms. We've datamined the following dialogue from Queen Azshara:
It would seem you have guests, Lord Stormsong.
You dare to interfere in my affairs? What makes you think you can oppose my will?
Drown these insects, my children. Show yourselves worthy of my pride.
Enjoy this victory. It will be your last.
How tenacious! Feel honor in your accomplishment of living long enough to face my pride.
