Continuing with our series of new players guides, today we're focusing on transmogrification--changing the appearance of your armor.
Transmog is one of Wowhead's favorite features, as we've built lots of tools to help you find perfect gear matches! We also have a series of guides that covers different types of gear.
For more guides in our New/Boosted Player series, check out our
Boosted 90 Essentials
,
Mists of Pandaria Content Overview
, and
1-60 Leveling Guide
.
Transmog Basics
The appearance of an item will be changed while retaining its original stats. This is not permanent and can be reversed at any time--like socketing an item.
Armor must be transmogged to armor of the same type. So
Seidenes Gewand des Rivalen
could be transmogged to
Robe des Glaubens
, but not
Brustplatte der Knochensense
.
There are four Cosmetic items added in MoP that can be transmogged onto any armor type:
Gaunahs authentische Trollschuhe
for invisible shoes and
Juwel des Feuerfürsten
,
Krone des ewigen Winters
, and
Kapuze der gierigen Dunkelheit
from the Blizzard Store.
For the most part, only items that have stats can be used for transmog. If an item cannot be transmogged, it will be marked as such in Wowhead's Quick Facts, plus we have a "
Transmogrifiable
" filter.
Legendaries, epics used to craft legendaries like
Sulfuronhammer
, and some items with absurd appearances like
Bratpfanne
can't be transmogged.
Weapons can be transmogged to weapons that have similar animations, not just weapons of the same type. 1H axes, maces, and swords share animations, as do 2H axes, maces, and swords and polearms/staves.
Your class must be able to equip the armor and weapons in order to transmog it--Druids cannot transmog
Blutfangbrustharnisch
even if it is in their bags, for example.
To transmog an item, head over to
Transmogrifiers
found in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Vale of Eternal Blossoms. A UI will appear that previews your transmogged items and lets you select appearances of items that are in your bags, void storage, and bank at once.
At BlizzCon it was announced that in Warlords of Draenor, transmog improvements may be coming that allow players to retain the look of an item without keeping it in their bags, similar to Transmogrification in Reaper of Souls. No further details have been confirmed though.
Transmog Set Database
Wowhead's
Transmog Set Database
groups together all items in the game by their looks.
Since transmog is all about visuals, this database is browsable with image thumbnails of each set in addition to the traditional text view. Mousing over each image brings up a complete image of the set.
You can browse sets by class with our filters. These filters include PvE and PvP tier items as well as BoE, dungeon, quest, and crafted sets:
Death Knight
,
Druid
,
Hunter
,
Mage
,
Monk
,
Paladin
,
Priest
,
Rogue
,
Shaman
,
Warlock
,
Warrior
.
Some sets have "Recolor" or "Lookalike" after their name. A Recolor set shows that a set is identical to other sets with the same name, but a different tint. For example, LFR and Heroic variations of a Normal set are marked as Recolors.
Lookalike refers to an identical version of a PvE or PvP tier set that can be acquired without any class specific gear. If you compare
this T10 transmog set
to the
lookalike
, you'll notice the first includes Priest tier gear like
Gugel des purpurroten Akolythen
while the second set excludes Priest-only gear.
We've also gone through all the sets and assigned the sets Styles--useful if you don't remember the name of a set but somewhat remember where it dropped from.
Classic World Set
covers BoE and crafted items from vanilla and TBC.
Dungeon Sets
cover all gear associated with 5-player dungeons, and can be filtered further, including
Challenge Mode
and
Troll Dungeon
appearances.
Events
currently include the Blessed Undead sets from the Naxxramas Invasions.
PvP Sets
cover all armor associated with PvP and can be filtered further by PvP Season as well as additional sets like
replica Field Marshal/High Warlord gear
. Putting together a PvP set can be confusing as there are many items with the same name but slightly different coloration.
Raid Sets
cover all gear primarily associated with raids, even if some items now have multiple sources. These sets can be filtered further by raid tier, and also include non-tier sets like
frost and fire resistance
and
nonset pieces from Naxxramas
.
Questing Sets
cover quest sets split up by
1-70
,
70-80
,
80-85
, and
90
.
We also have filters showing the minimum level needed to equip a set and which expansion the set was first found in. So if you were looking up
Shadowcraft Armor
, it would show up as a vanilla set, even though later replica pieces were added in Cataclysm at the Darkmoon Faire.
In addition, there are many great screenshots and comments with weapon suggestions and other ways to make your set more unique!
Transmog Tools
In addition to transmog sets, other parts of the database help with transmog:
You can create and save your own custom transmog sets with the Profiler. Simply to go
http://www.cuckhead.com/list
and choose the Custom List option to the right to get started. From there, add an Equipment Set tab and continue adding armor you like normally. Change the race and gender of your character by clicking the lock to allow further customizations. Profiles automatically save when logged in, and last for 48 hours when not.
If you want to transmog a character that looks identical to your in-game appearance, you can import your character via Battle.net (the left option on
http://www.cuckhead.com/list
) and then click the blue Battle.net logo at the top/center which brings up an option to switch the Profile to custom.
The "Filter This Set" option on a Transmog Set page lets you view all of the potential sources for set pieces--useful when a set has many different options like
Darkmantle Armor
. Clicking on "Filter This Set" takes you to
this page
where you can further refine your search using Wowhead's powerful set of filters.
When using item filters, armor results have a normal data display as well as a
Gallery
display. Here's an example for
Cloth Chests
. Clicking on the image pops up a 3D model.
All items have a "Same Model As" tab. This tab shows items that look identical, as well as items that have the same pattern but come in a different color. This tab also displays image thumbnails so you can easily scan it!
You can search for armor by color with our color picker filter, found right above Stat Weighting on our item filter section.
Transmog Guides
Wowhead has a series of transmog guides, the first of which was published the weekend transmog was announced. We've continued to expand our transmog guides over time to keep up with changing options:
