Many strange and interesting Titan-forged devices can be found throughout the Dragon Isles. We take a look at one such device found in Valdrakken, the Engine of Tyr. This puzzling device leads to quests that reward reputation with the Valdrakken Accord, as well as powerful crafting materials!
Jump-Starting the Device
Before anything else, players need to deactivate the device, which we do with the help of the Goblin Greyzik Cobblefinger, the self-appointed head of engineering.
You know what I don't like? Puzzles. And you know who loved them? The Watcher guy Tyr.
Drives me crazy! Nothing can be simple with him. This device clearly holds something valuable, but we can't power it up.
My team has tried all the sophisticated tricks we know, but nothing seems to work.
I HATE PUZZLES.
By the time we join him, Greyzik's plan to solve the puzzle is pretty straight-forward and involves just blasting the device with a gyrocopter.
Greyzik Cobblefinger says: I need highly energetic "researchers", willin' to skim over a pile of safety paperwork.
Amazingly, the plan works (though of course the gyrocopter crashes and burns with us in it) and an image of a Maiden of Inspiration appears.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Welcome, mortals.
Maiden of Inspiration says: If you wish to claim the power of the Engine for yourself, you first must prove you're worthy of Tyr's inventions.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Seek out the Titan's statue in the Azure Span, and more shall be revealed to you.
At the moment, there are options to ask the Maiden more about herself, the device, and Tyr, but her answers do not appear to have been implemented yet.
In Tyr's Footsteps: Powerful Crafting Rewards
The first challenge, found in the Azure Span, involves being shot up high into the air and floating down through circles - similar to the
Flight School world quest
in Bastion. Completing this challenge rewards reputation with the Valdrakken Accord, as well as Bottled Essence - which can be used to power up Tyr's Engine.
Powering up the engine rewards a
Spark of Ingenuity
, a crafting reagent for high-level combat gear!
The second challenge can be found in Ohn'ahran Plains. This time, the Maiden of Inspiration empowers us as we fight against increasingly challenging summoned foes. Once again, Bottled Essence, which can be used at the Engine of Tyr to gain a Spark of Ingenuity, is the reward.
The third challenge takes players to the Waking Shores. Here, we encounter a problem - the statue Titan's statue is in ruins.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Warning: Structural integrity compromised.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Unable to begin the trial.
If you ask the Maiden what happened, she shows you projection of a recording - it seems djaradin broke the statue.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Record log number 321352
Maiden of Inspiration says: Projecting images, please stand by mortal...
Maiden of Inspiration says: Projection complete.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Critical damage sustained. Unable to begin trial.
Maiden of Inspiration says: Immediate repairs required.
We help retrieve the missing parts from the djaradin and put the statue together again, and the Maiden of Inspiration is so impressed with us, she decides we have completed the third trial.
Finally, the Maiden of Inspiration sends us into the Halls of Infusion dungeon - which is not yet available for testing. However, we can see that this quest also rewards Bottled Essence, and promises to "help the Engine reach its full power" with a power core that drops from Iredeus, the first boss of the dungeon.
