Echo has reached a new best on Mythic Sylvanas Windrunner, wiping to enrage at 51.8% on their 100th pull, quickly followed by another at 51.2%, raising the question of when exactly will the fight end? Immediately after this first look at the bosses' soft enrage, they had another pull down to 51.2%, inching ever closer to winning the Race to World First... if the encounter actually ends at 50%.
The Sylvanas encounter instantly gained notoriety last week, when players discovered that it actually ends at 50% - a first in World of Warcraft history. We've had plenty of strange bosses over the years, Dreamwalker had to be healed instead of killed, Sha of Fear had a checkpoint, and Spine of Deathwing didn't even have a main boss target; we've even had a number of bosses whose encounters ended before death, with Azshara being the most recent example, but we've never had an encounter end this early. Sylvanas has been particularly contentious due to the devaluation of Warrior

.
In Sloot's interview during the Patch 9.1 PTR, Lead Game Designer Morgan Day confirmed that there would be
no Mythic-only phase for Sylvanas
, going on to elaborate that big expansion story elements should be available to all players. This doesn't mean the fight has to play out exactly as it does in Heroic though - there are already different mechanics between Heroic and Mythic, and the absence of an extra phase doesn't mean the encounter has to end at the same health percentage.
That said, it's likely the encounter will in fact end at 50%. The new best pull has already been over 14 minutes, making it very unlikely that it would actually go another 10 minutes or more, though it is possible that the encounter ends differently -
Raider.io has speculated
that it will end at 45%, based on a last minute

spell aura which shows a normal value of 50 and 45 for Mythic difficulty. This spell was
hotfixed in on July 8th
, and if it does prove to be tied to the end of the fight, then Echo's dangerously close wipe to the soft enrage's black pools of death actually still has a way to go. Considering how much power progression there is in the raid due to regular item level inflation, special effect weapons, Shards of Domination, and their three gem set bonuses, it almost feels likely that the damage requirement would be out of reach for the first week of the Mythic raid tier, although the best raiders in the world have continually proven themselves able to overcome even the tightest tuning.
