Loot and the acquisition thereof has been a constant topic since the beginning of the expansion. Blizzard is trying a paradigm in which there is less loot given out in dungeons and raids, but has redesigned the weekly M+ cache to supplement loot drops. The Great Vault has offered a single choice of an item from a selection of items. The quantity, quality, and source of those items is derived from the content played during the previous week. Sygia has been offered as the consolation prize for those who don't like their item choices. Up to this point, having the maximum number of raid items offered has required killing 10 bosses. Having the maximum number and quality of items has required a Mythic Nathria full clear. With Patch 9.0.5 Blizzard is easing up on the loot restrictions including the raid requirements for the Great Vault.
Currently a player has to complete 3 raid bosses to have 1 piece of raid loot offered from the Great Vault, 7 to get 2, and 10 to get 3. Once Patch 9.0.5 is live, sometime in March, those requirements will be eased to 3, 6, and 9.
The Great Vault raid loot requirements is now defeat 3/6/9 raid bosses (was 3/7/10).
It seems that the idea with the loot restrictions was to rein them in tight and then ease off for tuning until the rate of acquisition feels right.
