This section of the Demonology Warlock guide explains the best possible choices for the Netherlight Crucible, important traits and relic bonuses, and how to progress through the Demonology Warlock artifact weapon Skull of the Man'ari. This guide is written by SNF's

Artifacts in Battle for Azeroth
As of June 26th, completing the quest
The Power in Our Hands
will further empower your Artifact Weapon, enabling all traits and at least
Concordance of the Legionfall
level 75, further increasing in power over time until the Battle for Azeroth pre-expansion patch.
Therefore, only the Netherlight Crucible recommendations are relevant on this guide page leading up to BFA, as you already receive all Artifact Traits by default. This makes content easier to complete, especially some
content going away
such as
Ahead of the Curve
and
Mage Tower Challenges
.
In the
BFA pre-patch
, your Artifact Traits will be removed, and relics will simply increase the item level of your artifact weapon. However, many artifact traits are returning as talents or azerite powers in Battle for Azeroth and we have a compiled a
full list you can read here
.
Moving forward in Battle for Azeroth, you will still be able to acquire the Artifact Weapon which will mainly interest transmog collectors for the appearances. Learn how to unlock all appearances in BFA with our
Artifact Appearance Guide

Netherlight Crucible
The
Netherlight Crucible
is a new addition in patch 7.3 which allows you to empower your relics with new additional traits. This provides interesting opportunities to turn a mediocre relic into a best in slot relic. Read below to determine how to find the best trait combination on your current, and new relics.
In the crucible, you will find 3 tiers of traits for each relic. The first tier unlocked adds 5 item levels to your weapon for each relic, adding to a total of 15 item levels. The second tier is a choice between a shadow or light power, and the third tier is a choice of three randomly generated artifact traits. You can only choose one trait in each tier, and your choice in tier 2 will remove the choice of one of the tier 3 options. In order to completely unlock the Netherlight Crucible, you will need to get one of your artifact weapons to level 75.
For the Demonology Warlock Artifact, your ideal relic will be one of
Infernal Furnace
,
The Doom of Azeroth
,
Left Hand of Darkness
, or
Summoner's Prowess
as the base trait, with one of the other two as the tier 3 trait. The Tier 2 trait connecting them should ideally be
Light Speed
or
Torment the Weak
at max value, with
Shadowbind
,
Secure in the Light
,
Infusion of Light
,
Master of Shadows
,
Chaotic Darkness
, and
Murderous Intent
not far behind. As you begin to add targets
Light Speed
and
Murderous Intent
start to pull ahead significantly while one of the better single target traits,
Torment the Weak
drops off incredibly fast. With the opening of
Antorus, the Burning Throne
, it is now possible to obtain
Insignia of the Grand Army
, which increases the potency of your Tier 2 Crucible traits by 50%. It might be a really strong legendary if you are lucky with Netherlight Crucible rolls!

Netherlight Crucible Example
Below is an example of how you would put these ilevel values into practice in the Crucible itself. In this relic's case, since there is a completely useless relic trait in the middle of the third tier, you'll either be choosing the first path, or the fourth path. Simply add up the values in each of the four paths, and you'll find that the fourth path's values add up to a higher total ilevel value, so that's the best case for this relic.
Note: The Values for tier 2 traits below are pre-nerf values, however the concept remains exactly the same. Add up the values of the different traits on each of the four paths, and take the path that gives you the highest ilevel gain.

Recommended Build
The first golden trait that you want for the Demonology Warlock Artifact is
The Expendables
. Follow this calculator to your first 20 points; note that the 20th trait you get is
Stolen Power
.
28 traits in you grab your 3rd golden trait,
Thal'kiel's Discord
.
Fill our the artifact tree to 35 traits and unlock the new traits for 7.2 and you start "fresh" with this template.
41 traits into the tree you should be looking like this, grabbing all the new traits except for
Thal'kiel's Ascendance
and
Concordance of the Legionfall
.
Your 42nd and 43rd traits will be
Thal'kiel's Ascendance
and
Infernal Furnace
respectively.
Following that you take
The Doom of Azeroth
,
Summoner's Prowess
,
Sharpened Dreadfangs
and
Maw of Shadows
then the remaining 4 traits (
Dirty Hands
,
Firm Resolve
,
Open Link
and
Legionwrath
) to fill out the remainder of the tree.
The final step is putting a point (or multiple depending on your options to play other specs) in
Concordance of the Legionfall
and grinding out the unforgiving paragon trait.
Relic choices
Your weapon can equip up to 3 relics if you unlocked your 3rd relic slot in your
Warlock
campaign. You have 1x Shadow, 1x Fire and 1x Fel Fire.
You should prefer relics that grant you bonuses to the following traits:
Infernal Furnace
,
The Doom of Azeroth
and
Summoner's Prowess
in that order. The differences between these relics is somewhat minor with the lesser of difference between
Infernal Furnace
and
The Doom of Azeroth
.
