The Isle of Conquest is going to be a 40 man battleground featuring two generals, reinforcements, Arathi Basin-esque points of conflict, and lots of siege weapons.
The battleground shares a lot of common themes with Alterac Valley and Wintergrasp, and to a lesser extent, Arathi Basin. Hopefully, it won't become the next Eye of the Storm.
Unlike Eye of the Storm, it isn't all recycled PvP gameplay in a new environment. Assuming it all makes it to live, Isle of Conquest will boast catapults that can fling you over walls, two specific nodes that offer steady bonus honor (the Cobalt Mine and Oil Derrick), the new Glaive Thrower vehicles, and Gunships that, presumably, can be fired from as well as paradropped from. It sounds like the new BG has a lot of potential; let's hope Blizzard does this right.

This is a very entertaining Battleground and has the feel of Arathi Basin, Strand of the Ancients and Alterac Valley all mushed together. It introduces an array of controllable Siege Machines at the player's command, and in the Battleground Siege Vehicles play an important role in who wins and who loses.

This is a great new battleground that opened in 3.2.
It works like AV as in you kill the general and you have reinforcements.
It also works like WG as with the vehicles, workshops and seaforuim bombs (clever blizz, C4uim).
It also works to some extent like AB with the different recources.
Here are some of the highlights of the BG in detail.
use different siege vehicles to breach the enemy wall! The demolisher, Siege engine, Glaive thrower* and catapult!*
Defend your keep using built in turrets (left click to repair)
Capture the Hangar and grab a Seaforuim bomb and skydive right into the opponents base and blow them from the inside-out!
Or even better (I.E. far more humorous) launch yourself with the new catapult right into the enemy base with your paratrooper buddies and help blow them all up!
Use the new glaive thrower to maul opponents from a distance!
Need honor? No problem! Capture the Quarry or Refinery to yield a constant flow of honor right into your back pocket!

Here are some interesting things that you can find while in the Isle of Conquest:
In the North-east part of the zone, you can find Scarlet Onslaught ships a few yards from the shore. Looks like the Scarlet's want some of the resources as well!
If you look to the east of the island, you can find a giant land mass, what could that be? hmmm...
Also, if you use the catapult you can go to the hangar and launch yourself on top, you are able to camp yourself and wait for the horde/alliance to leave it defenseless and capture it.
EDIT: it should also be noted that if you go too far to the east (or too far from the island in that matter) you will enter a zone called 'no man's land' and will be instantly killed. This buff will also kill you even if your using a water walk, so no, you can not get to Icecrown via the Isle of Conquest instance.

While players can use the keep's turrets or go out on foot to destroy approaching vehicles, the airship is too far away to be attacked by players or turrets.
Two: It allows you to paradrop massive amounts of troops into the enemy base. It's interesting to note that while the keep does have turrets, none of them can shoot inside the courtyard. The only threat to paradropping players are other, enemy players. While you'd think the enemy players would have the home field advantage (they respawn there, after all,) that's not the case. The airship can quite effectively lay down suppressive fire that will quickly injure or kill anyone who gets hit.
At first glance, you would think it'd be more effective to bring up a massive machine of war than to just drop in and plant bombs. The reason paradropping is so effective, though, is that there is no limit to how many people can drop inside and plant bombs. You are limited on the other machines, however; two catapults, two glaive throwers, and four demolishers at one time.
Twenty people armed with Huge Seaforium Bombs, assisted by the five player controlled cannons from the airship, can very quickly do a lot of damage to a gate.

Playing as a gnome rogue I found it very easy to cap and hold the flags until reinforcements arrived.
- After taking flag I hid, someone would take the flag but then run off (resource areas) to get into the fun fighting. I would just recap it before it switched fully over. If they came back then start the fight and distracting until others show up.
- If capturing the flag it is easy to sneak in and take it over as people are normally generally running for the Airship/Glaves. Once I cap it if someone goes to take the flag, well timed saps will stop them long enough to almost capture it. On the third sap you have to engage in combat with them.
- If you plan to capture while there are a large number of forces, my team would draw the combat away from the flag while I captured it and then joined the fight. They were normally oblivious to this.
- The refinery/quarry flags are on high areas. This makes it good for rogues to escape and confuse hunters (I had three hunters looking for me on the boat while I was under it).
Only real way to counter it is AOE spam just before you start the capture. But again once they think they have the flag they run away.
Oh and the catapaults are funny. :) Watched some Horde guy launch himself 4 times before he realised it doesn't shoot ammo. Silly moo. :)

The landmass u see is Icecrown and the stormwright shelf from scholozar, u can see in the distance the big vykrul fort of icecrown and the scarlet island, but if u keep swimmin u enter No man's land where u die instantly haha

Just wanted to compare this to something that I'v seen abit in my battlegroup (Cyclone) and see what other players think. Even with the above strategy which seems to me like a premade strategy (need a well groomed and synergized group to actually stay in there base for awhile, or at least competent players) the enemy faction seems able to balance it out and come out on top by using the Oil Refinery and Quarry's buffs to there advantage.
You've got probably 35 or so players inside a base using C4 on the gate, for 6k or so each blast. But for the other side, grabing the other nodes and for a total of 30% increased seige damage

, several heavy seige tanks and there own players using catapaults to gain access to C4 themselves, wouldn't the team controling all the nodes have a much higher damage on the door and a higher chance of winning?
Thats what it seems like to me, and it worries me that the more players see this strategy and try it in a highly uncoordinated or fully pugged BG, the higher chance of it not working. Your thoughts? And I do play Horde, so there are quite abit of uncoordinated battlegrounds -.-

I think Blizzard did a great job on the new BG, it s big, well made and full of new exotic things, though they need to balance it a little:
I think Blizzard did plan on making it a long BG, like AV was years ago, but now everyone just goes to hangar and onboard the ship and a 7 min win. I think they should ´buff´he dock to equalize the hangar and also the Workshop in the middle, so that if one faction has Hangar, the other one still has a chance, also, they could change the boss to have more chance at the invaders, he always dies instantly. I hope Blizzard will make changes soon, but this BG looks very good.
EDIT: They actually did! Docks are now the best, with workshop and hangar close ahead, in my opinion, go to the Docks and Workshop, hold them until gates are breached, then go hangar and let everyone jump from the airship to the opposite base and let the cannons take down the defenders.

from my experience it is a great BG but still has a zerg win strategy to it.
I.E. zerging hangar is now the primary action and the fight ther seems to determine the outcome. Alliance have the advantage as they are a tad closer to it.

Biggest issue at the moment is that you can rush for the Airship to capture it and then just have all jump from it down and inside the other factions keep and use the bombs there to blow up the door, after ~3 minutes the gate will be destroyed (when several people help planting bombs) and you can basically zerg the boss.
The whole battle can take between 5-10 minutes to win
, 500 honor roughly but 3 marks and +1 win for the 100 win achievement in a very short time.
Otherwise a regular battle where you try and defend as much as possible will take anything from 20 to 45 minutes and reward let's say 3k honor but you earn more doing the rush mode in the long run. ;)

The hanger is a bit less important now. The
Huge Seaforium Bombs
are now consumable, so there is a limit to how much damage you can do.
An additional note, the graveyards work like AV. I won a game because the alliance had all the graveyards except for their own keep. Everyone who died spawned at their graveyard, and so we simple entered their keep and killed their general before they finished clearing though the remainder of our defenders.

Last battleground is really nice. You can try 3 types of attacs to enemy castle. With catapults: jump over the wall. With siege vehicles: destroy their walls and with air force :) jump with parachute to their courtyard. There are 4 types of rideable vehicles(Siege engine(Better than Wintergrasp), catapult, demolisher and Glaive Thrower) + cannons. added in patch 3.2.0

Looking around the Warrior noticed the fighting beginning to intensify on the left flank where a few hundred Alliance had dug in aound their catapults, which were busy pounding away at the fortress gate. From somewhere horns sounded, Orcish horns, answering cries were raised and the warriors started to charge, flights of arrows flew overhead pummelling the enemy
position mercilessly, a few arrows came flying back but it was scattered and for the most part way overshot. Zaphiroc smiled, it was a harsh smile, devoid of any true emotion, but the forsaken warrior was incapable of true emotion, dying did that to a man. Joining the fray his axe flew from left to right cleavng shields and limbs, the bloodlust was upon him, the screams of men and horses, the death grunts of horde soldiers, it all went by in a blur. And suddenly it was over.
the Alliance were in full retreat leaving dead and wounded behind. the field belonged to the Horde for now. everywhere soldiers fell to their knees in sheer exhaustion, the battle was hard won, many of the hordes elite, the kor'kron, lay dead and dying. Yes the battlefield belonged to the the Horde, but just how long could it be held against a foe obsessed with ther precious Faith in the so called light. strapping his axe to his back, again Zaphiroc smiled and relished the battles to come..

Important: This battleground has only 2 level brackets: 71-79 and 80 Alone. Despite it being more logic to have level 80 included (just like in level 61-70 bracket in AV for example). So there is no way for your level 80 friends to carry you on this BG.

omg this has a horrible wait time for a queue. i waited all day and not one came up. ive never played this BG and i hear its fun but i never have played before because no one ever queues on my realm. this sucks. i hope it get better with CtA. it had better! can anyone tell me why no one queues at all? is it that bad?

as of 4.0.1 this BG seems very buggy:
~Half the time the Hangar is broken (either the airship never appears OR you can't teleport to it)
~The front gate of the alliance fort is unbreakable (Might just be my battlegroup)
~Also a few times I've seen a member of the other faction capture nodes BEFORE the match has even started. This is pretty much cheating and needs to be looked into.

The Giant Pink Squares seen replacing the Hordes walls were not a bug, they were the invention of the Royal Apothicary Society.For the whole story, click "Show post" on the below post, that I am sure will be rated down soon enough, so you will prob have to click it.

I assume you have all seen the Giant Pink Squares deployed by our Horde forces in the Isles of Conquest. Originally, the Giant Pink Square, AKA G.P.S, was a project spearheaded by the Royal Apothecary Society.
When you destroy our walls in the Isle of Conquest, a G.P.S remains! The impenetrable wall of a G.P.S is absolute! The Isles of Conquest's G.P.S's were only a test. With the help of our new Goblin allies, we at the Royal Apothecary Society perfected Giant Pink Square technology!
We plan to integrate Giant Pink Square technology in the walls of all our are cities. Last night, I worked with the Goblins deep inside the Undercity and finished created the biggest G.P.S ever, with the intent to drop it over Stormwind! All of Stormwind would be crushed by the G.P.S! The attack took place at midnight.
The clock stuck Midnight.
The pitiful Alliance forces sent their Gnomes to Orgrimmar, according to Intel I gleaned from a man in Stormwind while disguised as a Human, via a potion of ingenious design. The Gnomish attack at midnight was as such a failure. The Gnomes approached Orgrimmar on their planes, and were met immediately by Orcs riding their Wind Rider steeds. At first, the Gnomes managed to take down quite a few of the Orgrimmar troops. I will admit, if there are any among The Alliance who can claim innovation, it is the Gnomes. Luckily, Garrosh Hellscream mounted his own beast, and flew to meet the Gnome fleet. The battle ended soon after. Even with a Gnomish fleet of at least one-hundred planes, they were not accompanied by any heroes of The Alliance. Garrosh rallied the other Orcs, and took down the planes.With the fire burning in their veins, lightning striking at their command, it was by storm and earth, axe and fire that the gnome fleet was defeated.
I finished my work with the Royal Apothecary Society, and we sailed our zeppelin to Stormwind. Under a veil of fog conjured by Tauren Shaman, we succeeded in flying over Stormwind, and we dropped the Gian Pink Square. All of Stormwind was crushed, The Alliance stopped forever.

This BG in the 80 -84 Bracket is stupid. It's not a BG, it's a game of "Avoid the Siege Engine".
Nerfs to that monstrosity are heavily needed. (And just the vehicles, really, no need to touch the boss)

It looks like Alliance has a pretty big disadvantage in this BG...Horde Demolitiors can hug the west gate to avoid getting hit by cannonfire and firebombs, whereas Alliance is just saying "look at me, I'm knocking on your door so please burn me to the ground!" when they try to hug the west gate on the Horde base.
Maybe I just can't get around with the cannons btw =P
Oh, and on the other hand: This is
the
Battleground to get your Wrecking Ball achievement, in the bracket 80-84. Get in a glaive and have fun one-shotting everything in range...

This place is very easy to win as Horde, Simply send Stealthies to docks to kill Glaives (only kill Glaives no capping), All attack hanger, Bomb East gate with gunships guns while keeping a cannon crew on yer own base.
The Alliance will do one of two things here: Lose, OR Turtle into their keep, If they Turtle, YOU MUST NOT ATTACK. Capture Quarry and Oil Refine and simply wait, Pile up Glaives, Siege engine and atleast 20-30 players to right outside alliance gates.
Alliance will think "oh they gave up lol" and 100% of the time, atleast 20 of them will just run out of base- To be massacred by the Glaives and players waiting for them, This will either win outright, or break their turtle so you can kill boss.

I really hate this battleground (and thats not because im horde, cuz its still boring as alliance). The problem with it is that it plays like starcraft, but you can only view the map from the view of one your units, you can only capture other structures, your units may or may not listen to your commands, and some of them may even try to force commands on you. Now, im not saying strategic battlegrounds are bad, but they're not for people who don't form whole raiding parties before entering!

Hidden win condition, this battleground has a maximum duration of 1 hour. So if your team's gate does not fall, and you destroy the enemy gate, you will win, this appears to be regardless of the number of reinforcement count for both teams. This occurred this afternoon for me

to go live the following week.
The details provided are;
Isle of Conquest
These changes are intended to discourage base-rushing and have all control points be important, not just Hangar.
Glaive Thrower health has been increased by 40%.
Alliance and Horde Commander health increased by 50%.
Demolisher health increased by 25%.
Catapult health increased by 100%.
The amount of siege damage required to break down keep walls has been increased by 20%.
