As a healer, I had a very difficult time with this fight. I was admittedly likely undergeared and our tank was as well, however the biggest factor was how punishing the mechanics were.
The tank absolutely has to do his job with avoiding all avoidable attacks and staying on the correct tentacle. Barring that, the boss applies multiple debuffs that need to be cleansed ASAP and you must rely on dps to maintain the correct distance apart in order for you to do so, which can be particularly challenging during phase rotations. Lastly, the cannons causing hard LOS issues can be tough to deal with, especially in the third area (the ship) where the bosses telegraphed attacks seem to take up most of the map.
The slightest mistake here can lead to a TON of group damage. Good luck!

I defeated this in Mythic group as healer at 303 item level (basically quest gears).
There are 3 platforms where the fight will be and here is the optimal execution where we managed to kill the boss without losing anyone.
Platform 1 (where you begin encounter)
Have the tank engage and all dps focus fire and kill the
Demolishing Terror
. When there is no one meleeing it,
it will do heavy AoE to everyone in party regardless where they are located
. And you don't want this to happen.
Throughout encounter, everyone need to
prioritise moving out of Call of the Deep (AoE water attack)
. Every single damage avoided will help the healer.
Note that you need to start moving the moment you see the area that will be bombarded. The cast time is quick. Do not finish casting/actions unless it is instant, move asap.
Once there is no more
Demolishing Terror
, have everyone focus fire the
Gripping Terror
(until another
Demolisher Terror
appears, then switch to
Demolisher Terror
again)
Note that the
Cannon causes Line of Sight
, so
have everyone aware of this
as they can interrupt incoming heals/dispels.
THe boss will apply
Putrid Water debuff to 2 random players
.
This needs to be dispelled asap once everyone spreads a bit
. Dispelling it too close to ally will cause explosion and knock allies, possibly to water to be eaten by sharks!
Have dps move out for a bit to be dispelled.
Dispelling this is better than trying to outheal it
, since everyone will be taking damage randomly from other sources.
Once you kill the
Gripping Terror
, the
engineer breaks free to repair the cannon
.
Have everyone kill any remaining Demolisher Terror
.
Once the cannon has been repaired,
one dps should right click to use the cannon
. This will inflict 33% of the boss health as damage.
Move to platform to the left of the starting platform as a group, follow the debris, and do not jump/ fall into the water unnecessarily, as sharks will kill you if you dont get out in time
Tank may need to go ahead to quickly pick up Demolishing Terror that may already spawn, but everyone else should allow heals to patch them up instead of running out of range.
Do not lose anyone during this fight as everyone's dps is needed. At least until you outgear the instance.
Platform 2 (to the left of the original Platform)
Repeat what you do in platform 1, bearing in mind the cannon in middle. If you can pull off what you do in platform 1 successfully, you will not have problem here if you keep doing the same routine.
Once the cannon is repaired and the cannon is fired, move to the last plaform on the wrecked ship.
There is a short cut to the left instead of circling around through platform 1 again. Think of the encounter area as a circle so just go clockwise as you move platform.
Platform 3 (Wrecked Ship)
I suggest you
blow heroism / drums and every strong cooldown here as soon as everyone is in position and after avoiding the first wave of Call of the Deep
.
For healers, you can better position yourself by
climbing up the stairs a bit
so you have less line of sight issue.
The tentacles can spawn on both sides of the ship, so by going up the stairs, everyone should be in your line of sight and if any movement is needed, its very minimal.
Other than that, repeat the step in platform 1 and you should down it with no problem.
The encounter ends once the cannon is repaired, so
the sooner you kill the
Gripping Terror
, the sooner the engineer gets freed and repair the cannon to end the encounter
.
But do not forsake everything trying to pull this off
. Do the mechanics and clear the
Demolisher Terror
if needed be, dispel
Putrid Waters
, and avoid
Call of the Deep AoE
.

I just tried to tank this. After 12 wipes watching the stupid DPs stand too close to me trying to get the Demolisher - and yelling at me for "not dodging the slam" every time - I quit. I didn't need the quest THAT much.

The loot after you kill this boss is the pile of kelp near the first cannon in the encounter. My group nearly missed it x_x

Just done this boss for the first time. We ended up killing the lower health demolisher tentacle first before the gripping one one on each island and it seemed to go a lot easier than the other way around. We killed the boss first time of asking doing it that way after 4 wipes doing the gripping tentacle first. Not saying it'll work for everyone, just sharing my experience.

So, not sure I missed something or what. But as a hunter, my pet just dies. I can only assume it's from the water debuff? Which seems awful, because pet AI puts it behind mobs.

I made a quickie macro to explain fight to group.
/p VIQ'GOTH: Tank grabs demolishing terror tentacle & DPS kills gripping terror, then kill terror tents. Dont dispel PUTRID WATERS until player flees group or else HUGE knockback. When engineer is free, fire cannon. Cross water&repeat 2x. Lust on ship.
You can also mention "avoid swirlies" but I think most people get that.
A more detailed explanation of this:
1. First of all, let's talk about the PUTRID WATERS debuff. If a player gets hit with this, they must run away from the rest of the group to be dispelled. There is a huge knockback to players close by when it gets dispelled. This can knock players deep into the water and they will die. So its really imperative to get away from others if you get this.
2. Tank stays on the demolishing terror tentacle to prevent AoE.
3. While he does that, DPS kill the gripping terror, frees the engineer, and fires the cannon.
4. Once that is done, clean up all terror tentacles.
5. Do this a total of 3 times to win.
6. The third engineer / tentacle setup is on a ship. It is best to lust here because there is very little room to operate and the longer you stay here, the more unlucky you will get with AoE or swirlies or putrid waters.
This was the strat that gave us the least amount of hassle.

If you are trying to solo this instance in Heroic because of the Kul Tiran unlock requirements, as a Mage, I found the final boss to be ironically the easiest part of the dungeon, by a very large margin.
At 192 iLvl and without ever using the major cooldowns (because I had never done this before and I thought I might have to save them), Viq'goth did not drop my health under 50% even once, whereas the other bosses activated my Dreamer's Mending once. Just focus on killing the tentacles that are holding the engineers (one at a time; they don't show up until you fire the cannon; the order is center, left, right), dodge the incredibly easy to avoid AoE attacks, and then use the cannons for an easy win.
