During an
exclusive interview with Wowhead
, World of Warcraft Game Director Ion Hazzikostas provided insights to the hypothetical return of T3 transmogs, noting that they should take significant investment and dedication as well as a bit of a gold sink, so as to not devalue those who spent millions of gold obtaining it from the Black Market Auction House.
We've seen some datamining that indicates that T3 transmogs may be craftable, anything you can share about this?
Yeah, datamining reveals some interesting things. It's something we've been exploring through the profession system broadly looking at no longer obtainable appearances. Old ones from ZG are ones we've touched on in the past. Enterprising adventurers and explorers who poke around in 10.1.5 looking at some of the related old content may find some interesting things there.
When it comes to Tier 3, we're also very mindful of the fact of there are players out there who have spent millions of gold on the Black Market Auction House cobbling those sets together over years. There's also folks who have these as their most prized possession from having raided vanilla Naxx forever ago.
Hypothetically speaking, if this were to be a thing in the game, we would take a much more judicious approach to availability of these crafts as to opposed to something like ZG. It should take significant investment and dedication as well as a bit of a gold sink to get all of this together so that ideally people feel like they have more control over chasing the appearances that they want from some legacy content. But someone who already got it all from the Black Market Auction House isn't looking at this and saying 'well that sucks and I feel like my investment has been devalued by this change'.
Interestingly, the return of these highly coveted transmogs is still
unconfirmed
. We first
datamined new Naxxramas content
in May, which included new achievements and ancient recipes for
weapons and armor
found throughout the raid, similar to the return of
Zul'Gurub appearances
in Patch 10.0.7.
英勇的缰绳
is also a new mount datamined alongside the other Naxxramas updates, matching the one used by
库尔塔兹领主
of the Four Horsemen.
While Tier 3 gear was not included in that first round of datamining, several
highly-involved yet nondescript recipes
using high end vanilla crafting materials like
冰冻符文
and
奥金锭
have since been discovered, which combine pieces of Lamented Crusader gear and Corrupted crafting materials to create Desecrated gear, which can then be purified using
正义宝珠
and the new
护命之纹
. The final result is still unconfirmed, though the materials and description make it seem extremely likely that it will lead to those coveted Tier 3 set pieces.

Although the game director's comments make it sound like T3 coming back is still very much a hypothetical based on incomplete datamining, it seems very likely that the original Naxxramas tier sets will be returning
at some point
- if not with the launch of Patch 10.1.5, then perhaps as a part of some future event.
