Dragonflight Season 1 Tier Set bonuses
have hit the Beta and are currently testable as part of the beta content preview. Our Warlock Guide Writers breakdown their initial impressions on these tier bonuses, offering insight into the implementation, relative strength, and even some valuable feedback.

The first tier set bonuses for Dragonflight have been added on beta, and the Affliction ones look relatively interesting compared to the rest of the class pool in the expansion. Instead of default damage buffs, Affliction gains a manipulatable damage increase to our main spenders,

, and on top of that we get a nice haste steroid which is always nice for the spec.
Essentially, whenever you have your 4 set, every time you gain a soul shard specifically from
痛楚
damage, you have a chance (from initial testing on beta the chance seems relatively high) to gain a 6 second haste buff for 12 seconds, and 2 stacks of a 40 second buff that increases the damage of your next
灾难狂欢
or
腐蚀之种
's damage by 40%. Each time you use a spender, you'll only consume one stack, so this buff definitely seems like it's possible to save stacks for specific circumstances where you'll have extra dots available, such as
邪恶污染
,
诡异魅影
, and
灵魂腐化
, to make extra use of that damage increase. Compared to the relatively boring set bonuses for other classes that just give passive damage increases to specific spells, this actually seems like a pretty interesting set bonus to play around.
The relative strength of the spec and set right now is hard to quantify - remember that even with the expansion set to release in 2 months, we're still in early iterations of balance, as explained by dev posts a couple of weeks ago. With design mostly set in stone, I expect balance to reach a decent point sometime in the next couple of weeks. However, until then, I feel like this set bonus is quite strong, especially for an early expansion set bonus. In previous expansions where set bonuses were implemented, set bonuses at the beginning of the expansion were rarely this interesting. I can't really see any major improvements I'd personally make to the set bonus; the only minor change I think I'd like to see is a relative nerf to the values of the benefits when the set bonus procs, and a 100% chance for the set to proc on shard gain. That might be a bit too powerful though.

With tier sets now being announced let's look at a few key things about the Demonology set bonuses and how they interact with the spec.
When you first look at these bonuses and reflect on our new talent tree there is some synergies that can be seen right from the get go. The 2 piece bonus specifically has a large number of nodes that synergize with

). Regardless of the damage contributions for each spell the big benefit of the

nodes is that almost every build will take the majority of their nodes compared to the
恶魔之箭
ones in all situations which lends itself more to one side of the bonus than the other.
The 4 piece bonus is less about synergies with the talent tree and more about altering your gameplay, albeit very slightly and in a way that you likely won't notice. In most situations for a
召唤恶魔暴君
build phase you would be filling with
恶魔之箭
between your
古尔丹之手
casts and if one of them happens to be instant you either won't notice or won't have enough time to really react to the bonus for it to matter. The increased damage is also fairly irrelevant since
古尔丹之手
overall is very low on damage typically (around the 5% range).
In terms of overall strength if the tier bonuses remain as is they should likely be flipped as the 2 piece bonus is definitely stronger than the 4 piece bonus as it stands currently however both bonuses translate well into all types of content since they are both essentially passive bonuses to our damage. As noted earlier in the majority of builds you will be taking almost all of the
魔刃风暴
related talents and at worst two of the
恶魔之箭
talents so there is representation for both sides of the bonus. In terms of how strong the bonuses are for Raid vs Mythic+ or AoE vs Single Target in the end it will all come out as a wash typically for all spectrums and doesn't really lean more towards one facet of the game more than others. If there was one way to lean in particular it would be more towards benefitting in Mythic+ AoE scenarios than others simply due to the power of
魔刃风暴
and Demonic Strength in these situations.
There is still some information yet to be seen with the 4 piece bonus in particular and how the 50% increased damage works; if it's
just
古尔丹之手
damage then it is a very lackluster bonus. If it increases the damage of the Wild Imps that pop out of the instant cast by 50% as well then it is a much stronger bonus. I think that the 2 piece bonus fits what Demonology is doing in Dragonflight very well and if it stays as the 2 piece bonus will likely need to be tuned down to be more in line with a typical 2 piece bonus. If the 4 piece bonus is exactly how it reads I think that they need to revisit the design around the bonus entirely and make it into something more demon focused in some way.

First Impression
The first thought that comes to mind when I see these set bonuses, is that they seem very simple and not super interactive or interesting. When I say these bonuses don't seem very interesting, this is based on the bonuses we have had in the past that have been more interactive and affected gameplay more than this is going to. Some of these bonuses later made it to legendary bonuses, which we were happy to see make a return. I struggle to see this bonus go that same way,
Relative strength
Determining the strength of these bonuses is going to depend on final tuning, but looking at the design this type of bonus has the potential of being a very strong buff to the Destruction Warlock damage output in all types of content.
Critical strike chance is a funny stat as Destruction, because of how well it plays with our kit. We generate more soul shards from
献祭
ticks and
烧尽
when they critical strike. Also, our main single target damage spender
混乱之箭
scales very well from crit. For this reason, crit as a proc is a very high-value stat for Destruction.
More crits mean the 4-set is going to gain more value as well. We get a very straightforward flat damage buff to our critical strikes, which again plays very well into our kit. We're going to be critting more with all our spells, and of course our big soul shard spender

Conclusion
While these bonuses may look slightly dull and unintuitive from the outside, they do have the potential to offer a good damage boost for Destruction in all types of content. The design plays well into how Destruction deals damage, and depending on tuning could be very strong.
