In this week's Dragonflight Alpha build, the Waking Shores zone is available for testing. The Waking Shore is the first zone we will play through when we reach the Dragon Isles, and we highlighted some of the most important events that we'll see there!
WARNING: DRAGONFLIGHT STORY SPOILERS AHEAD!
The Dragon Isles Await
In the first chapter of the Waking Shores storyline, we join the Dragonscale Expedition as they journey to the Waking Shore, the first zone of the Dragon Isles! We arrive on the Wild Coast, where we find over-run with proto-dragons and elemental energy. We push forward to Wingrest Embassy, an ancient embassy for mortals that has long-since fallen into ruin, where we meet up with Wrathion and Majordomo Selistra, a red dragon with a Vulpera visage form.
Dragons in Distress
In the second chapter of the storyline, we encounter the Djaradin, an ancient threat of elemental half-giants who reawoke with the awakening of the Dragon Isles. To Wrathion's distress, we discover the Djaradin have plans for the Obsidian Citadel, ancestral home of the Black Dragonflight. While we help a young cadet rally drakonid refugees affected by Djaradin attacks to the Life Pools, we discover another threat known as the Primalists have been stealing red dragonflight eggs in order to infuse them with elemental power.
In Defense of Life
In this chapter, we meet Alexstraza the Life-Binder at the Ruby Lifeshrine. Here, we learn more about dragon eggs and how they're nurtured, we help whelplings with their training, but most excitedly, we learn Dragonriding! Our new customizable dragon mounts let us glide, dive and soar through the sky! But disaster strikes when the Life Pools are attacked by
Raszageth, the ancient and powerful proto-dragon that leads the Primalists
. With many precious dragon eggs at risk, we must help defend against the attack.
Wrathion's Gambit
In this storyline's penultimate chapter, we join Wrathion as he prepares his Blacktalon for an assault the Obsidian Citadel, to take it back for the Black Dragonflight. The citadel is both heavily fortified and well guarded, but we take out some of the Djaradin's most powerful forces. In a surprising twist, Sabellian and his brood of black dragons arrive from Outland and help with the assault. Wrathion's major target is the Obsidian Oathstone, a source of great power, but when we reach it we find it cracked - broken when Neltharion broke his Oath to be the Earth-Warder. We help repair the Oathstone, and a new leader of the Black Dragonflight can be chosen. Here, Wrathion and Sabellian argue - they cannot decide which of them most deserve to claim the Obsidian Throne.
Waking Hope
In the final chapter of this storyline, Wrathion and Sabellion's followers each make each make a case for why their leader should take the throne. Before any final decisions can be made, however, there is a far more important task to attend to - the first Black Dragonflight eggs in a long time need to be escorted safely to the Life Pools. Since Primalists will want to destroy these eggs, Sabellion decides to travel by cart in visage form so as not to attract unwanted attention. Wrathion insists on coming along, but becomes more and more agitated by what he views as a pointless plan. When a Primalist proto-drake destroys the wagon, Wrathion is furious. However, it all turns out to be part of Sabellion's plan - to act as a distraction while the real dragon eggs were smuggled to the Life Pool safely. For the first time in many years, the Black Dragonflight has a future again.
