Sepulcher's Savior - Dual Themed Shield Switches Between Attack and Defense Mode in 9.2

A new shield discovered on the Patch 9.2 PTR switches between two unique effects! Starting in defensive mode, the
圣墓救星
passively increases Block, while the on-use effect grants an absorption buff to the lowest health party member. Upon activating that absorption effect, the shield switches to Offensive mode, granting passive thorns damage and single target damage on-use instead.
The shield switches between defensive and offensive mode each time the on-use effect is triggered, with a 1.5m cooldown in between.
While the dual nature of this shield doesn't make it specialized in anything particular, it's an interesting item similar to the special-effect weapons found in
Sanctum of Domination
and
previous raids
. The shield does give up secondary stats in exchange for these secondary effects though, and at first glance, the offensive portion appears rather underwhelming, although the defensive block value might be decent for Protection Paladins using the upcoming
Progenitor tier bonus
, which revolve around blocking attacks.
Because Block increases how much damage is reduced rather than the chance of blocking an attack, the shield could very well be BiS for Protection Warriors as well, since the high uptime on
盾牌格挡
means they're capable of benefitting from that extra reduction more frequently. Ultimately it depends on what item level it can obtained at, although it's also important to remember that most combat isn't purely melee hits and typically involves mixed types of damage and debuffs not affected by block. Still, it's a neat idea, and while there are frequently special effect weapons focused on dealing damage, those designed with tanking or healing in mind are much more rare. Given that this is still an early PTR build, it's also possible these numbers are merely placeholder, so we may see some future tuning.
Sadly, the on-use effects are both visually underwhelming.
We don't know where the shield comes from yet, although the primary stat does switch to Intelligence, suggesting that healers might be able to obtain it as well. Unfortunately, the effects don't change though, so it still increases block value and probably won't be very useful outside of some PvP considerations because of it.
