There have been some odds and ends this week and past that have deserved a news round-up, from a few hotfixes to some explanations of minor class changes that are slated to hit in patch 4.1. General news seems really slow lately, most likely because Blizzard has been busy ramping up for the Rise of the Zandalari release as well as preparing for the patch beyond that and its new raids.
Latest topics include:
Post-60 Leveling Flow
UA Dispel Penalty
Clarification Requested on WoG Nerf
HW: Sanctuary Needs Buffs

Post-60 Leveling Flow
I have been leveling this warlock past few days and the new quests are more than superb, I have been enjoying leveling like crazy. I started in the human zone and right now Im in Redridge, the story is incredible and fun. This is the first time I level without even noticing which level I am and without even looking to my exp bar.
My point is that, sadly, the fun ends at 60 and a horrible tedious journey starts, especially from 70 - 80, it is a boring nightmare.
Blizzard, is there a way you could make leveling from 60 - 80 as fun as the "new" leveling? Or anyone know if there are plans to do this?
I have heard that 80 - 85 is also very fun, but I dont know because I havent reached there yet.
We know that for many who have gone through Outland and Northrend before, it may not be as fun as the first or second or even third time you've gone through it. We understand but also believe that in general, the quest flow is much better than what was available in original World of Warcraft. Between that and the increased rate of experience gain, you should be able to go through these areas relatively quickly. Would we like to update Outland at some point in time? Sure. It's a possibility. But it's not on our immediate radar. There's still a lot more to be done in World of Warcraft.
MId game is broken. Blizzard know but they happen to care more about doing nothing that actually working on something players are requesting.. sad blizz.. very sad
Broken implies that it doesn't work at all. This word is thrown around quite a bit, but just because something doesn't work how you feel it should, does not mean it's broken.
We definitely aren't doing "nothing" since we are currently focused on getting patch 4.1 worked on and moving on from there to more Cataclysm content.
We do appreciate those who have given constructive feedback on their feelings on leveling from 60-80 and as I mentioned earlier, we do have accelerated experience gains for these levels. As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, getting flight early on also helps with getting around these areas and completing quests in a more efficient way if that's what you're looking for.
To make any other changes to the way the leveling zones and quests work within Outland or Northrend would take a significant amount of additional development time and isn't a simple undertaking as many have seen with Cataclysm and the changes brought about with it. If and when we feel the need is there to revisit the content in Outland and Northrend we will (again as we've exhibited in our willingness to address "old" content with the changes to Azeroth itself), but now is not the time for that.
the quest flow is much better than what was available in original World of Warcraft.
So what you are saying is that the 60-80 questing is more fun than it was in the original wow, when the cap was 60?
I'm saying we learned a lot from the time we released World of Warcraft to when we released Burning Crusade and used what we learned to create better quest flow. The same as we learned more in Wrath of the Lich King to apply to Cataclysm. We are constantly looking for ways to innovate and improve upon what we're doing.
The UA Dispel Penalty
Currently, the penalty for dispelling Unstable Affliction is a mere 10k dmg (on resil targets) and a 4 sec silence. I am thankful we have something compared to nothing. However, the current penalty is not anywhere near enough to deter all healers from spam dispelling all our dots as much as they possibly can.
We think the silence from dispelling Unstable Affliction is sufficiently punitive, but the damage may be too low currently--that it isn’t scary enough to make it a decision to dispel or not.
In general, it’s not our goal to offer dispel protection for every dot or hot out there, but Unstable Affliction is a spell and mechanic we like and we want to make sure it’s doing its job. Maybe a damage bump would be enough, but in any case it's an ability we're looking at.
Clarification Requested on WoG Nerf
I recently spoke to the devs about this, and their direction on it has not changed. We want Ret to be able to heal. However, if a Ret paladin is healing so often that a 20 second cooldown is a constraint, then that Ret paladin is spending too many GCDs healing. Spending a lot of GCDs on heals isn’t what we want a DPS spec to be doing.
We’d rather it be a big heal that is used infrequently, than a small heal that is only makes a difference to you if you give a lot of your GCDs to it.
HW: Sanctuary Needs Buffs
I had a talk with the devs about this very issue yesterday, and they are well aware of this subject, and tend to agree with those of us (one of my mains is a holy priest) who have noticed that Sanctuary could do with a buff.
There are two things that have to be dealt with here: 1) Holy priest AE healing is pretty decent as-is, and 2) we don’t want Sanctuary to be so similar to Healing Rain.
Again, the devs agree that a modest buff is a fair solution, although it is hard to know when or by what magnitude such a buff might come along.
