Level 10 to 50 in Under 4 Hours with Warlords of Draenor on the Shadowlands Alpha

Chromie Time
has opened up entirely new avenues of leveling on the Shadowlands Alpha, and
DesMephisto
has once again sped his way through the leveling process, making it from level 10 to 50 in
3 hours and 37 minutes
through
Warlords of Draenor
. While the new expansion choosing feature is definitely incomplete and there's likely a lot of level up tuning to be done, it's a great chance to experience leveling up through those previous expansions. Some people may get tired of hearing about frequent speed leveling achievements, but we are not those people!
This newest record, a good two hours faster than
his fastest BFA leveling time
, is mostly due to the much better quest and bonus objective density in WoD, making it easier to level through killing mobs at lower levels to save quest and objective turn-ins for later. Interestingly,
Warlords of Draenor
mobs would appear to be weaker than their
Battle for Azeroth
equivilants as well, though whether intended due to Azerite bonuses or simply due to a lack of tuning is anyone's guess at this point. Most impressive is that these times aren't even fully optimized, as War Mode is down to 10% on the Alpha and some Heirloom experience bonuses are still missing.
A few interesting advantages in
Warlords of Draenor
are also offered by Garrisons:
The Gorgrond Garrision Outpost
Sparring Arena
ability
勇士之耀
summons allies which do a surprising amount of damage, and certain mobs will drop quest items for the achievement
证明你的力量
, awarding around two levels worth of experience for all ten.
The Talador Garrison Outpost
Arsenal
ability
火炮轰击
makes AoE farming considerably faster, easily allowing you to pull 20 mobs at a time.
Funny enough, the
要塞炉石
requires level 35 to use, similar to Legion Artifact scenarios (which is likely not intended).

From a speed running perspective, these times are a lot of fun to see, but it should be kept in mind that a typical player probably won't level quite as fast playing the game normally. That said, the system is still clearly a work in progress, as there are some obvious tuning disparities between the various expansions which still needs to be sorted out. Clearly there are a lot of changes still to come, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the actual leveling times being a lot slower once the
Shadowlands
pre-patch arrives, though Blizzard has stated their intent is to make leveling faster than it is on live without the Winds of Wisdom experience buff.
For those who aren't familiar with him, DesMephisto is a major supporter of autism awareness and the
Autistic Self-Advocacy Network
, which he supports through his love of Warcraft as one of the most prolific "leveling" players in World of Warcraft, having taken 47 characters to max level (all of them Warriors!), achieving multiple speed records, and been a major contributor to
Azeroth Auto Pilot
. While certainly not the only speed leveler in WoW, his dedication to streaming and frequent charity events have garnered a lot of attention on Reddit, Discord, and other online communities, including a recent
interview with PC Gamer
. He also recently attempted inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records with a
36 hour WoW marathon
, although no official determination has come back yet. As an extreme Warrior-centric player (and personality!), he also plays lesser classes on occasion, presumably just to keep things fair for everyone else!
