Rob Gallerani, Design Director for Diablo II: Resurrected, was recently interviewed by Adam Hartel, artist and recruiter for the
Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games, and Animation
, about the development of Diablo II: Resurrected.
Topics include the design aspects the development team used to bring the classic Diablo II into the modern era, controller support, uncapped framerate, Quality of Life features, lessons learned, as well as features they decided not to add.
Here are a few highlights from the interview:
Going through old code, the developers noticed that gear knew what time of day it is, because the original developers were thinking of having items that would only work at night.
To support controllers a lot of the fundamentals, like movement, targeting, and looting, had to be changed.
