We're still in the first few days of Diablo 4 Early Access, and yet so many characters have perished in the pursuit of being the first to reach level 100 in Diablo 4's Hardcore mode. Streamers including
shroud
,
Maximum
, and
RaizQT
have become some of the first victims of the harsh world of Sanctuary, and have already had to make new characters. If you'd like to see how these professional gamers met their ends, and learn how to avoid a similar fate, make sure to check out the following clips.
Diablo 4 Hardcore Leveling Competition Reviewers Ineligible for Hardcore Race
Be Careful Where You Click
Professional VALORANT Player for Team Liquid,
SayfDJ
, learned the hard way that when you click on the chat window in the button-left corner of the screen, the game will assume that you're attempting to type a message. Many can learn from this fatal error.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time
A very well-known streamer,
shroud
, was playing in a full 4-man group when he was killed by a Vile Lunatic exploding on him as he was Feared. Unfortunately, there was not much he that could have done to avoid this death, and that was not the end of this group's woes...
Another One Bites the Dust
Shortly after shroud was sent back to the Fractured Peaks, his group-mate,
imexile
, met a similar fate. As the remaining three group members were clearing a Helltide Event, a Helltide Commander spawned and seemed to bring with him an ever-lasting damage-over-time effect. imexile attempted to run away, but was ultimately unable to avoid his untimely death, even after attempting to log out of the game before his inevitable demise.
By Three They Come, By Three They Go...
The final nail in this group's coffin came a few levels later, when
Maximum's
character became stunned for nearly 10 seconds straight. After consuming all of his health potions, he decided that the only way he might live is by closing out of the game. Unfortunately, when he returned he was met by the Character Creator - a sign that his level 52 Sorceress was no longer alive.
Logging Out Will Not Save You
Hardcore players of many other games in the ARPG genre have taken advantage of their game's "disconnect forgiveness" by creating logout macros, using alt-F4 to force-close a game, or just simply leaving the game before their character dies on-screen. However, as we've seen a few times now, it appears that Blizzard has removed the ability to log out of the game while in combat. Streamer
jungroan
learned this lesson the hard way.
Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
Sometimes during a long gaming session, it can be nice to take a break and watch a little YouTube or check your phone. Path of Exile streamer,
RaizQT
, took his eyes off of his primary monitor for a little too long when he was watching his friend and fellow streamer,
Alkaizerx
, fighting against the World Boss Avarice, The Gold Cursed.
Too Close For Comfort
While participating in a World Event, Diablo III speedrunner,
wudijo
, came as close as possible to death on his Rogue.
Don't Panic
Finally, while waiting for his 4-man team of Path of Exile content creators to log in,
Steelmage
loses focus and ends up biting off more than he can chew. Luckily, he was able to evade the enemies long enough for his group to arrive just in time to save him.
As the Hardcore Race to World First and the First 1,000 to level 100 ramps up, we'll make sure to continue to bring you the best of Diablo 4's Hardcore Death Clips and Close Calls. The first few days of Diablo 4 have been amazing, and we can't wait to see which classes and builds will make it all the way to level 100!
