Burning Crusade Classic Dark Portal Pass and Deluxe Editions are now available, both containing a level 58 boost for an existing or brand new character on a Burning Crusade Server! You can buy these directly through the in-game Store button.
Along with the items and features Blizzard announced, there are some features that were changed or not fully announced in the Blizzard product descriptions.
I boosted a Warlock to look at the many variables you might encounter when boosting a character, and in the process discovered an issue with Warlocks that I'm really hoping is a bug or oversight.
What You Get with the Boost
If you boosted a higher level character, check your mail.
One of the first things you'll notice when you open your bags after boosting is that your bags are nearly empty. This can be alarming if you're boosting an existing character who had gear and possibly better bags. Don't worry -- go to your mailbox. Everything you had on you, including equipped gear, is in there.
Here are some changes/clarifications/unannounced features.
Bag Size Changed from 14 to 12 Slots
This was a little disappointing, because until recently, Blizzard stated that the boost would include up to 4 Runecloth (14-slot) bags, but the final result is up to 4 Huge Brown Sacks, which have 12 slots. It may not be a big difference, but my Warlock only gets 3 bags because one bag slot is taken up by a soulshard bag. Hunters also get 3 bags, plus a 14-slot Quiver (all Hunters seem to get Bows as green starter gear, regardless of race.
Warlocks get the is a bit of a bag nerf from how soulshard storage was represented in Beta. During Beta, level 58 Warlocks got the 24-slot
恶魔布包
; the boost gives you a 20-slot
灵魂袋
.
A "little bit of gold" to start their journey
No kidding. You get , which really isn't much at level 58. Thankfully, you also don't have a ton of expenses, although there is a possible bug with Warlocks that might mean they get hit with much higher initial costs.
You will also get some class-specific reagents and basic food
For example, Warlocks start out with 8 Soul Shards. Rogues start out with a small variety of poisons. Mages start out with 5
传送符文
, 5
传送门符文
, and 5
. While you don't get everything you might need (Mages have
奥术光辉
but no
魔粉
), you will get enough to get you started for most things. All classes get a few useful items like that. Plus, everyone also gets a stack of
烤鲑鱼
and a stack of
黑石山泉水
.
You get most of your spells/abilities with ranks up to level 58...
I say most, not all, because everyone is short one rank of one spell. This is because you need to go through a short quest line after you get into game, and one of these quests involves buying your last spell from your trainer. This is to help introduce players new to Classic that they need to buy their abilities and ranks from their trainers; you don't get them automatically like you do in Retai.
...but Warlocks have a problem.
Warlocks start out with all their Demons available, but their Demon abilities are not currently fleshed out. Brand new boosted Warlocks will find that will each Demon only knows one Demon ability at Rank 1 and nothing more (Warlocks boosted from a higher level will have whatever Demon abilities they knew at their previous level).
To rectify that problem, you would need to buy only the highest-level Grimoire for each ability; you do not need to buy all the levels in between. However, buying the highest rank for all abilities for all your demons will consume your starter of and then some, so you will need to make careful choices in the beginning.
By comparison, Hunters get all their pet abilities for their starter pet (look under Pet Training to find these and teach them to your starter pet), and Mages get all their portals right from the start. This seems like an unfair imbalance for boosted Warlocks.
Hopefully, this is a bug/oversight on Blizzard's part and will be rectified in a hotfix. I would suggest holding off on buying all but the most necessary upranked Grimoires while waiting to see if Blizzard fixes this issue.
A Big Thank You...
To Deathmagnet, Tsuu, and Frastie of Mankirk server, who answered my questions about their own boosting experiences to help flesh out this article. Thanks for letting me bug you at a very exciting time!
