Today we will take a look at the DPS balance in Sanctum of Domination, based on data from the week of July 20th. For this analysis we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Heroic Sanctum of Domination statistics
.
Warcraft Logs' Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Patch 9.1 partition for Heroic difficulty in the week of July 20th. While Mythic will eventually be the benchmark used, there are currently not enough Mythic parses in the new raid to have significant data about balance yet, but we will swap to that metric for the next week.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Sanctum of Domination in Shadowlands Season 2, looking at the data of the most recent week in the raid.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 2, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.

Spec Analysis for Week of July 20th
For the third week of Sanctum of Domination, we've invited the class writers from the specs with some of the most movement in rankings to help contextualize these movements in statistics, Balance Druid, Elemental Shaman, and Outlaw Rogue.

With more and more guilds reaching Heroic Kel'thuzad and Heroic Sylvanas the power of balance will start to be more apparent in metrics on Warcraftlogs. In addition to more and more guilds reaching the later bosses, more players are getting comfortable playing Venthyr on many fights. With more players getting comfortable playing Venthyr then balance's relative performance will increase with that. If you change the percentile to 95% on heroic, Balance is even the second highest performing specialization in the game. So there is a combination of players getting more comfortable with the spec on Venthyr in addition to more and more parses on Sylvanas and Kelthuzad which increases Balance's general state.
Overall, Balance this tier is very punishing if played poorly, but if you can play balance well then you are one of the top few DPS specs in the game. Balance excels very highly on fights such as Painsmith, Kel'thuzad, and Sylvanas phase 1. The niche of strong burst single target and incredible spread AOE damage makes balance very valuable on those fights.

Elemental dropping as people get more gear and as kill times become shorter is no real surprise. Elemental has always been a spec that doesn't scale terribly well and has more sustained damage than burst damage. As such, we're likely to see a slow drop over the course of the patch while people continue to upgrade their shard sets/gearsets & kill times continue to get shorter. Elemental still has strengths that are worth speaking to however. We have strong priority damage for things like killing
尖刺铁球
, can still maintain close to peak damage on the move, and are relatively difficult to kill with the number of personal cooldowns available to us.
Elemental utility is also in a bit of a better place this tier, with
狂风图腾
seeing good use across the board even with the overlap that it has with
狂奔怒吼
. Fights like
痛楚工匠莱兹纳尔
provide opportunities to run back and forth through the totem, while for fights like
希尔瓦娜斯·风行者
there are so many locations where those spells can be useful that you simply can't have enough.

On the default ranking on WarcraftLogs for Heroic, Outlaw fell down a little bit. I think it would be somewhat foolish to attribute this solely to the class though. Outlaw is in an area where the scores and DPS values are so close that just normal statistical fluctuation can make a difference between ranks on a regular basis. On top of that there are other factors like ongoing unlocks of soulbinds, getting gear (most notably Shards of Domination and the socket items), and shifts in distribution.
As I predicted in an earlier comment for Assassination, Rogue spec distribution is fluctuating. Outlaw has become the least represented spec in Heroic with more players on Subtlety, since that spec is now very competitive for people who like the damage profile or simply to play the spec. Rumor has it the raid can actually drop daggers, so as more
黑夜边缘
become available, that might also skew it towards the dagger specs slightly.
That said, Outlaw still is a perfectly fine PvE spec for the raid. It only "suffers" from having to compete with two strong single-target focused specs, which are often preferred. None of that makes it bad though. Outlaw has the same utility and survivability toolkit with good damage in both single target as well as multi-target scenarios. Funny enough, when switching the same statistics view from Heroic to Mythic, Outlaw is currently the highest-ranking Rogue spec. I think this underlines the high impact of statistical variance. In certain areas, a spec can simply end up anywhere, and often (especially outside the Race to World First) it matters more to have a good player that is comfortable with the spec they are playing than what spec you bring.
