Today we will take a look at the DPS balance in Sanctum of Domination, based on data from the week of August 3rd. For this analysis we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Mythic Sanctum of Domination statistics
.
Warcraft Logs' Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Patch 9.1 partition for Mythic difficulty in the week of August 3rd. As this is still an early moment for Shadowlands Season 2, Mythic data still contains many peculiarities, including limited representation on many bosses across most specs.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Sanctum of Domination in Shadowlands Season 2, looking at the data of the most recent week in the raid.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 2, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.

Spec Analysis for Week of August 3rd
For the fourth week of Sanctum of Domination, we've invited the class writers from the specs with some of the most movement in rankings to help contextualize these movements in statistics, Elemental Shaman, Feral Druid, and Assassination Rogue.
Elemental Shaman

As we get farther and farther into the tier, specs whose rankings are held back by lower representation are able to occasionally rise as bosses they do well on numerically get enough logs to be added officially to the All Bosses breakdown on Warcraftlogs. This weeks surge for Elemental is one such case. Elemental Shaman in Mythic finally got enough kills to add
初诞者的卫士
,
命运撰写师罗-卡洛
, and
克尔苏加德
to their averages on the All Bosses breakdown and the effect is quite large. While Elemental doesn't shine in logs on
初诞者的卫士
(as of this writing ranked 16th,) it does on both
命运撰写师罗-卡洛
and
克尔苏加德
(6th, and 1st respectively.) These two latter bosses push Elemental's Mythic ranking much closer to what we saw in its initial Heroic rankings (where in these rankings we were 4th in week 1 & 8th in week 2 respectively.)
That said, we'll likely see Elemental drop in stock a bit once
希尔瓦娜斯·风行者
is added to the board (currently 12th on that boss with only 5 kills) and a slow decline in general as Elemental does not receive nearly as much strength from the extra gear & bonuses from Domination sets that other classes will see. This is in addition to the fact that Elemental traditionally does not get as big a benefit out of lower kill times that other specs get as we get deeper into farm. For now though Elemental is, and will remain, a strong progression spec.
Feral Druid
About the Author
My name is Guiltyas, I raid in Pure on Turalyon Horde, where I recently passed Trial. I've played feral since Wrath when I picked it up as main. I'm well respected in the Feral community and you can find me talking about Feral (passionately) in a few different places,
Twitter
, my
stream
, and of course the
Dreamgrove Discord
!
I enjoy walks on the beach and this is really what makes me reliable on the subject of Ferals! I do not own a cat :(
This week we're looking at why Feral's gone down in the rankings for Mythic Sanctum of Domination. Much like most tier's feral started out very strong, right up near the top, looking very competitive. Especially this tier with the new Covenant Legendary providing solid burst on a short CD feral looked to be in a very strong position!
This tier the first few bosses,
塔拉格鲁
,
典狱长之眼
, and
The Nine
are fantastic fights for feral, and this is fairly common in a tier, early bosses typically are largely single target focussed. This aligns closely with Feral's strengths for the last few expansions, single target. Most people are killing these bosses pretty quickly, and as such in early weeks these were the bosses that were influencing the statistics most strongly. The first real walls in the raid are
耐奥祖的残迹
and
裂魂者多尔玛赞
and this is where feral starts to fall down. The most common ordering of bosses cleared seems to be going
耐奥祖的残迹
and then
裂魂者多尔玛赞
, and if we look at Feral's performance on these first 3 bosses (3 because
塔拉格鲁
is excluded) it shows up at 2nd on
典狱长之眼
, 2nd on The
The Nine
, and 1st on
耐奥祖的残迹
. Makes sense that feral was looking good on statistics (in general), then we get to the next boss,
裂魂者多尔玛赞
. When we get to
裂魂者多尔玛赞
it looks a little worse (and a lot better for some other classes haha) feral plummets to 2nd from last on this boss, if we change this to damage to bosses then "heyyy we're back on top!".
So what does this mean? Feral's dropped a big chunk in the rankings, does this mean it's bad now? has it gotten worse? nah none of that. Feral continues to perform exceptionally well at it's strengths (murdering bosses) what's caused the drop is mainly just fight's that allow people to pad DPS on AOE letting other people excel on the statistics. I'd actually argue that boss damage is far more valuable on
裂魂者多尔玛赞
than statistics would suggest but that's the core of the reason Feral has dropped in the rankings!
Assassination Rogue

In the overall Mythic statistics that Wowhead selected (at the time of writing), Assassination went from rank 4 to 12, which seems like a pretty harsh drop. Trying to explain where that might come from, I think it comes down to these factors:
1) More impact from bosses as guilds progress. At first, the overall statistics were dominated by the many guilds killing the first three bosses with relative ease. These guilds are now progressing past them to harder bosses. Bosses that also have more adds and AoE elements. One of those is Soulrender Dormazain. On this boss, the players that do play Assassination aren't scoring very well in comparison. Often Assassination Rogues stay on single-target oriented builds, which means on bosses like Soulrender but also later on for Fatescribe and Kel'Thuzad, the overall average is lowered due to this. One could say Assassination Rogues "don't pad enough" on adds to get the great parses that ultimately affect the statistics.
A similar effect comes from Painsmith. The few Assassination Rogues haven't been doing so well on that boss as more guilds kill it and the boss becomes a larger part of the total available Mythic parses.
The chosen statistic only shows an average of averages on bosses. The "All Bosses" view is often not a good representation when digging deeper. Even when just switching to "Damage to Bosses", Assassination is joined with Subtlety and Feral as firmly on top.
2) More impact from spec-switching. I predicted this in earlier comments and the tier list. Subtlety is a strong competitor to Assassination that, while it can be seen as a harder progress spec, has a slight edge on single target damage. On top of that more and more players are getting set bonuses, unlocking the last soulbind tiers, and drop the dagger from Sylvanas. Subtlety is a popular and great choice with some funnel capabilities on Fatescribe and Kel'Thuzad, both having more impact on the overall stats now.
A shift in what spec is mainly played can be seen past The Nine. Up to that point Assassination still has the most parses for Rogues, at the time of writing. After that, Subtlety becomes the more commonly played Rogue spec. From that shift in what is played, there is also an impact on the results in the statistics. It's not necessarily that Assassination is bad or gets worse; it's more that the top players who want to multi-spec are playing Subtlety and boosting that spec now.
3) The sample size is still just very low. Towards the later bosses Assassination has barely a few dozen parses. This just doesn't really say much statistically.
