This is currently (January '11) the only >346 weapon option for Feral Druids aside from PvP/Resilience weapons.

Good news is that it's absolutely fabulous for bears. Too bad My PR is in the crapper from picking up 漫行者之盔 and some frivolous spending at the end of Wrath on my alts so this will be going to our hunter(s) first, /sadpanda

If your guild is giving a melee weapon to a hunter regardless of DKP or any loot system, that's complete fail. That's like giving a rogue an agi crossbow that drops over a hunter that needs it as a huge upgrade.

At the same time, it's logical to encourage people to not spend their loot currency frivolously. Sorry, but the whole point of DKP and other systems is to ensure a fair loot distribution. Handing this to a Druid who has already collected multiple upgrades and who has no currency to spend pretty much undermines the whole system, regardless of "who it's best for".

Dropped yesterday. Passed it to the feraltank, several guildies questioned my decision and asked if I didn't want it. Of course I wanted it, but I would be very pissed if a rogue/warrior would roll for the twindrake xbow over me (although I already have it), and I feel this is same thing. It's called common sense - feraltank benfits a lot more from it than me. Besides, mastery is kinda crappy for hunters. Yes, I know 40% of it can be reforged.

However if the HC version drops once we are able to go HC mode and the same feralbear is tanking, I will roll on it since he now has the normal version already :)

I don't know about you all, but we don't really depend on our bears tanks for dps (perhaps we're doing it wrong), so this should really be considered a 'stat stick' for them as well. As for cats vs. hunters, until you can point to the simcraft saying that cats would get a greater dps bump than hunters, I would suggest that both classes have a valid claim on it. No, hunters don't do direct damage with melee weapons (one hopes), but this stick has a big 'ole bag of stats attached to it. Hunterloot.com suggests this as BiS for hunters at roughly 170 dps increase (359 version) over http://www.cuckhead.com/item=56382.

Yes, every sim for cats shows that this staff is 400-500 DPS upgrade over weap you linked (372 version is at ~1k DPS up). Which brings us back to the beginning - same story on rolling on agi bows as someone mentioned.

Mystery solved then. All things being equal, this weapon helps the raid more in the hands of a kitty than a hunter. That said, loot distribution methods exist for a reason, and I certainly would have no qualms about a hunter rolling on this in a pug (were I the raid leader). Ultimately, the debate's rather silly, as it's the very first boss in an intro raid. Progression guilds will likely be killing him every week, and we'll be sharding it in a month or so, I expect.

The reason why a hunter "should" pass this for a feral druid is because feral druids only use polearms and agi staffs, while hunters can use those AND 1h weapons like: daggers, swords, axes and fistweapons (and there are plenty here with agi).
And for all the "melle-weapon" posts, ferals also use this as a stat-stick, with "dps" being an extra stat, as weapon speed only matters for dk`s, ret-pallys and wars (who should not be rolling on this, even thou they roll on agi staffs/polearms in heroics).

While I would hate to pass this up, if I was grouped with a feral druid I would. It's just a stat stick to me. I'm not going to shoot people with it. But that poor druid I'd be screwing would be actually using it as it is intended, to beat people with. So as a hunter, if there's a druid in the group, the druid would get it over me because I wouldn't take it from him (my guild doesn't use DKP or anything though).

I think that you'll want to take your words back as soon as you imagine what this hunter will do after getting first one-hand. He'll be rolling on a 2nd one against a warr dk or rogue. Then, when a 2h drops, he'll suddenly realise that it has more stats on in, and will roll for it too. So yeah, 1-hands is a way to go for hunters.

In MY personal opinion, i'd only pass this to a druid (being a hunter) if i'm in a guild run, because that probably would help us more in the progression of the raid than if i kept it, BUT, if i were in a PUG, i'd roll it cause even if he keeps it or i do, we're in the same group together for one reason, to get gear, which in this case is good for the both of us.

Rogues don't like bows because they can't use FoK ... so they preffer Throwing
Warriors don't like bows and guns that have agility

The only other 2H with agility at lvl 359 available in the game atm is the PvP option
If you compare the DPS gain of a Cat & Hunter from the PvP weapon to This one you will see that BOTH CLASSES ONLY GAIN STATS

For a hunter the 346 pve to 359 pvp has 0 gain but for the Cat it has some gain.
So if Cats have an option to get the PvP weapon even for PvE use the hunter can't.

So coming from the PvP weapon with the same DPS
Feral = Hunter (in terms of gains from this weapon)

Now from my PoV when i am waiting for RNG to drop this and i have farmed the pvp weapon few months ago. Should i pass to a Cat Druid that hasn't farmed the pvp weapon because it is an upgrade for both even if it is higher for him. Maybe from my PoV i deserve it more since he has another option that i Don't ... what do you guys think.

It is all based on the situation, Guild run or PuG. DKP or loot council, Who rolled more.
But in the end .... 2H with Agility is for both Hunters and Druids.
*Except if there are Axe, Sword or Mace options.

Why should hunters roll on this? Agi is our top stat, the top enchant for 2H is 130 agi to a 2H weapon and guess what this is the only 359 2H weapon with agi.

So hunters keep rolling, it's BiS

Hunters should only be allowed to roll on this AFTER all ferals and Bears in raid pass or have.

this isnt becasue of some hatred of mine of hunters. my main is a feral, my main alt that im gearing for alt raids is a hunter.

its because hunters want this for a stat stick, whereas ferals and bears need it for the weapon DPS.

while hunters hate hearing this, its true.

if you raid lead and it drops, make sure you explain to hunters that all bear and cat abilities work off weapon DPS and we have NO upgrade outside of this weapon, where hunters can dual wield rogue weapons as well as the feral druid polearm.

Not saying we should or shouldn't pass this weapon (us hunters), but when you say "hunters can dual wield rogue weapons as well" what makes you think the rogues themselves wont want them? or the DK, etc. First the polearms go to the druids, then the single handed weapons go to the plates. Doesn't seem fair, at least talking PUG-wise.

No, not really. Malevolence and heroic Malevolence are the only real upgrades. Despite that, I agree Druids should get it first.
