I have been looking at the AH for months because I have been too lazy to farm this boss for the Ace. It hasn't been up since I have been looking. Since this instance is done much less often since TBC came out, you would be able to mark this card up significantly. On my low population server, I know about a dozen people looking for this card simply for use in arena.

Just to confirm your statements regarding this card.
You HAVE to kill Rattlegore, and you HAVE to kill the six bosses in order for Gandling to spawn.
I ran Scholomance 23 times. Did a couple of them back to back. Some where FULL KILL runs, and the card never dropped. (I actually got the
Shadowcraft Cap
on my 15th run. So it's probably just my luck.) I wond up buying this card on the AH for 290g.
Look at the comparison below and then make your mind up as to whether you REALLY WANT this card's trinket reward. It is after all just 10% chance to resurrect. Lunacy and Furies both give +51 stamina along with their special ability, and both have a better chance to complete the deck than this portals deck. The elementals Deck has done me wonders in both PvP and PvE with that one loose running away and then bam: 314 nature damage for the kill.
Why do I have it then? Being able to complete the 2-8 of portals in the AH for about 30-35g was a good starting incentive. After that though, attaining this last card becomes an obsession. You don't want to pay the 250+ gold since you bought the others so cheaply, and you don't want to give up because you feel the ability to resurrect your own self in combat is a surprise worth giving. But now that I have: I see the lack of other abilities I can have and use from other trinkets, and that "surprise worth giving" is a BIG heart breaker when you don't fall in that 10% chance to resurrect for that 1% kill.

No. You are wrong about the forever part. Unlike the
Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon
. The
Darkmoon Card: Twisting Nether
is not comparable, let alone to be thought as useful forever.
To understand this, think of the following:
You have a 10% chance upon DEATH, to resurrect yourself at 20% health and mana. You falling within that 10% is not guaranteed, and requires you to die in order to have the 10% chance accessible. So your getting 10% resurrection chance whenever you DIE, with very little health and mana; is not entirely useful. (BTW: I did an AB just to die continuously - AND NEVER HAD THE CARD PROC THE 10%). <<That was a lot of deaths.
Also consider that in PvP, you normally get waited on while your body is still red - no different than being Soul Stoned. And in PvE - unless questing alone - you have ressers and spirit walks, you still suffer the 10% equipment damage from Mob Death; you are loosing the benefit of having used another trinket before your death (most obvious when the card does NOT proc) and even if you are the last to die with the card granting you the resurrection: all agro has been reset - which allows the mobs (bosses too) to regen there health to max.
Now, with the Blue Dragon you have 2% chance PER successful spell cast to regen your mana at 100% for 15 seconds. (Kind of like regenerating while not in combat.) Since it has NO Cool Down - >>Click:

- you can have a rolling restart on the trinkets affect EVERY TIME you have have a successful spell cast. Instant cast, timed casts, any cast that is successful; you get the chance for the trinkets affect.
In PvP that means you use less mana to cast your good spells. In PvE that means you use less mana to cast your good spells AND you may pot less.
The only other Darkmoon cards that are level 60, that could be considered as "forever"; would be (from greater to lesser)
Darkmoon Card: Maelstrom
and
Darkmoon Card: Heroism
.
Though I have no personal experience with Heroism. Maelstrom has proc'd numerous times for me within PvP and PvE. It has proc'd against players 10 levels above me. It has proc'd on 5 mans. It has proc'd on Raid Bosses. And it has proc'd A LOT of times within each fight.
I still have the Twisting Nether card (spent to much time getting it to throw it away). But consider it a waste of time, effort, and gold to attain. Maybe if it had a +Ability of some sort, or was not so difficult to get; it may be worth the time. But other than that ever happening: stick to getting the other level 60 cards, as they are redealy available and provide better usefull attributes.

That is because:

10% does NOT mean 1 out of every 10 deaths. It means 10% CHANCE at every death.
In any WoW event that you can imagine, having 10% chance to resurrect
after
you die is outweighed by the other abilities from cards that proc throughout your living cycle. Maelstrom has proc'ed 5 times in ONE fight. That at minimum is 1000 damage. Even if it procs once per fight, that is still at minimum 200 extra damage. If the card were to proc every other fight, that would still outweigh the Twisting Nether. Why?
Because what you are not considering is that you do not actively seek to die. You attempt to stay alive throughout your game play. As a result, you get
better returns
from a trinket that is continuously used through longer game play duration, than from one that is used (on percent chance) the seldom times that you die.
(BTW: I did an AB just to die continuously - AND NEVER HAD THE CARD PROC THE 10%). <<That was a lot of deaths.
Were I being active within the AB, the amount of deaths would have been a whole lot less. The amount of time that I would have spent alive, would have gained the AB group more benefit if my trinket slot were occupied with something other than the Twisting Nether.
The above only deals with use, and I have not re-touched the current difficulty level of attaining the one card of the bunch: Ace of Portals. Simply refer to the second post for that information.

I don't understand why jomper keeps getting down-rated for stating a fact, the deck IS just as useful to a level 70 as a level 60. Whether or not you personally find one trink or another more useful is entirely unrelated to what he has been saying.
Due to the difficulty of getting the ace for this particular deck, the value on the AH has remained close to it's pre-BC price on my server, and I can only imagine it has on others. If you do not find this deck useful to your class or play style, you should be able to appreciate the profit you could potentially gain on the AH.

I am aware of the scaling. Same would go for mob nature resistances. However, proc rate and deck availability would still make it a worthwhile card, while Twisting still would not be for those same reasons. Twisting is a... an illusionary card. The ideal is great, but the actual use isn't do to its dependability to occur.

I soloed scholo for this card on my rogue, and lucky me, after the 2 or so hours it took me because of constant messups with the mobs that turn into shades that are immune to physical damage, I finally killed gandling and bam it dropped. Everyone's gonna hate me because I got it on my first try but hey.
I have a druid partner who has this card already. He's turned 3 games this week into wins because he popped back up after he was focus fired down and healed me.
However you look at this, this card will be useful all the way up to the point where blizzard throws the nerfbat at it.

Yes it still drops. I took a quick run solo on my DK. Got it on one run. Not sure how the drop rate is now, but it does still drop.

Where do you guys obtain the Ace of Portals? I've been grinding Non-Heroic Scholo (Dark Master Gandling) for hours - does it still drop or not?
