Introduction
Warsong Gulch is a 10 v 10 capture the flag battleground. Each side tries to take the opponent's flag and capture it at their own base, however you can only capture the flag if the enemy isn’t currently carrying your team's flag.
Map
Before we get into any strategy, let’s start by breaking down the map. Warsong Gulch is a basic CTF format with Alliance spawning on the opposite side of the map to Horde, both in their respective base as seen here:
Regardless of where you die on this map, there are only 2 graveyards; one for Horde and one for Alliance, which are positioned here:
It’s also worth noting that when you enter the battlefield you can find helpful buffs in the form of a Leaf and Berserker buff to either heal you and regenerate mana, or to give you a boost to your damage. These are positioned here in the huts just outside your team's base:
As it’s a capture the flag map, the flag you aim to capture is positioned in the opponent's spawn room, so your mission is going to be to pick up the flag and run it across the map and bring it to your own flag spot. As mentioned earlier, in order to 'cap', the enemy cannot be in possession of your own flag.
The first to 3 points is victorious, however it’s worth noting that in Rated Battlegrounds, the team with the last cap is deemed the victor if it's a draw.
Strategy
Now that you know about the map, let’s get into some strategies. Before you enter the battlefield you are going to want to divide your team up into an offense group and a defense group. To do this, you need to think about the classes you have in your lineup and how they will perform.
First of all make sure you have a flag carrier (FC). This is ideally either a Vengeance Demon Hunter or Guardian Druid, due to the mobility that they provide. With this, you will want one strong tank healer who will be with your flag carrier for the rest of the game. Classes ideal for this are Holy Paladin, Mistweaver Monk, or even Restoration Shaman.
To fill out your defense team you will also want some classes with good 'peel' or slowing capabilities; classes like Mages, Death Knights, Rogues, or even Hunters, are perfect for this.
For offense, you will want one designated offense healer such as Priests or Restoration Druids, as they are capable of bringing some great tools to assist you in scoring a kill on the enemy flag carrier.
To fill out your offense lineup you want classes with instant burst damage, lockdown, or high mobility; classes like Rogues, Balance Druids, Havoc Demon Hunters, and Feral Druids are perfect for this.
It’s also worth noting that one of your healers should be considered a 'floater' and their job is to bounce between the two teams being where they are needed the most. For example, if the enemy has a heavy defense, they might have to assist your defense healer as it’s more important that your flag makes it across the base.
Your teams should look to be more heavy on the offense however, as defense should only be focusing on slowing and picking people off while they chase your flag carrier.
Now that you have your team split up into defense and offense, you should have your offense team (the ideal path of which is marked below in green) look to meet the enemy flag carrier mid-field and slow them from picking up your flag and look to force cooldowns, whilst your defense team goes straight for the enemy base to pick up the flag.
Your most important goal, however, is to make sure you get your flag carrier across the map. Once across the map and in your own base, it becomes much easier to kite and defend entry points.
Once your flag carrier makes it across the map, your job is to get onto the roof with your defense team. Once up here it becomes incredibly hard for the enemy team to connect, because as soon as you see them commit to coming up the ramp, you just jump off the roof and kite to your graveyard then wait there. Once they commit to chasing you, you jump down and go up the tunnel then back up to the roof again. This is why we have defenders with slows - it's their job to slow the enemies chasing your tank.
You can do this better by controlling the entrance to the roof of your base whilst your tank is sitting on top of it.
The entrances to both roofs are marked, and should be defended to stop the enemy connecting to your flag carrier.
If at some point you wipe the enemy offense, you should then look to have your defense team push up and attack as well because the enemy offense team will begin resurrecting at their base's graveyard. For example if you are the horde team defending and you wiped the enemy team, you should then push up and attack with all of your defense team (except for your healer and tank); you will have ample time to make it up the tunnel and to the enemy flag carrier before the enemy team are in position to defend.
Once returning the enemy flag, split back into your defense team and offense team as fast as possible and pick up the flag once again then just repeat the process, making sure to escort your enemy flag carrier to your roof yet again.
If you are struggling to connect to the enemy flag carrier and they are kiting you, make sure to divide your offense team up, looking to cut them off from all angles.
Warsong Gulch is relatively simple strategy-wise, so if you keep your groups sorted and have your floating healer in the correct place, you should be an effective team.

This was a good guide! I have only played casually so it was interesting to hear about the strategies of how to move the flag around from roof to graveyard to tunnel and back and composition of offense and defense teams. One thing that made it a bit tough to read though was that the way you talked about offense and defense was different from how I always have. I would think of the team that is going out and getting the enemy flag as the offense team and the team that is protecting your own flag as defense so I had to keep switching it in my head to keep track of what you are saying.
